I turn off the hardware switch at night to make sure I’m not interrupted. I call my voicemail every morning because I have an elderly family member and worry that I may have missed something overnight. I really hope there is a solution soon.

Posts on this forum confirm that the Mudita team was unaware of a large base of users who are accustomed – for up to 25 or more years – to getting notifications on cellphones when they have new voicemail waiting.
I sort of kick myself when I remember (e.g., because of your post about an elderly family member) to access my voicemail so as to learn whether I have any new voicemail messages.
The lack of a new-voicemail notification somewhere on the Kompakt is driving me to pick up my Kompakt more often than I expected that I would have to do. Please, Mudita, address this oversight as well as the long-pressing-[1]-to-access-voicemail oversight.

TBH, I don’t see this as an entirely bad thing. Yes, it would have been better if they had predicted it or understood that not all carriers send an SMS notification. That said, there was no way the device was going to be perfect out the gate, whether it was notifications or some other issue that was the predominant complaint.
I’m much happier with “oh crap we didn’t think about this, how do we fix it” than if they had an attitude of “oh well, suck it up.” As long as they remain engaged and responsive, mistakes can be fixed.

@petemeister I’m sorry that we can’t offer more detailed info on this subject at the moment. I’ve asked our team to give me some more feedback & I’m waiting for them to reply.
Is this the default approach to voicemail notifications? I hope there is some carrier-based notification push possible instead.

Yes, @buiosu, push notifications would be preferable and is standard on most phones.

FWIW, there is a notification of sorts: a single audible ding. Some have referred to it as a “ghost” notification and have blamed it on the Signal app. I too have the “ghost notification” but no Signal is installed for me. Now, i just received a random “ping” shortly after missing a phone call. Dialed VM and had a new v. message. Obviously this single audible notification is better than nothing, but isn’t at all ideal for a phone.
And to be sure, I contacted my mobile support regarding the SMS workaround:
"Unfortunately it is not possible to send Voicemail notifications by SMS.
The Voicemail notifications can be set up only on the device if it has the option for it."

I wonder if this is a notification of the missed call, not voicemail per se. I sideloaded NotificationLog (search for posts in this forum on that) and I’ve found it indispensable. That could help you figure out the ghost notifications.

UPDATE: just tested missed call vs VM
Test 1. Called , let it ring for several rings, and hung up. No VM. Result: No ping
Test 2. Called, let it ring until VM prompt, left a VM, hang up. Result: Ping.

@wbcox95 Our team is working on it. In the next update, our team has mentioned voice mails will be handled by a notice on the screen. In technical terms, it’s called a FLASH SMS, which means the message appears directly on the recipient’s screen, instead of being stored in the inbox automatically.

@urszula this is excellent news! I’m pleased to hear this. To clarify, do you mean that support for voicemail notifications is expected in the Autumn release? (Given that the July release is almost here already.)

@petemeister I believe the FLASH SMS might make it to Version 1.2.0 (which is this month). However, I will confirm this with the team. I know some users are looking for a voice mail indicator in the top bar, but that’s a more complex issue & they are researching the topic.

While i have gotten used to the “quirks” of the MK, I’m not so sure all newcomers will have the same patience. The still missing VM notification coupled with the still broken Bluetooth is hugely disappointing…
