No voicemail notification on MK?

Hello,
I don’t receive any kind of notification nor information on my Kompakt when someone leaves me a voicemail after I miss a call. Is there something I need to setup? Thanks for your help :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m not sure if that’s a service provider thing. Voicemail nowadays is stored at the carrier level, not on the device.
Whenever I get a voicemail, I receive a text message from the carrier that I can call their voicemail phone no. to listen to that.

Thanks buiosu. On my old phone, which is a model from 2008, I used to receive an alert that looked designed just for voicemails. When I clicked on it, it called my operator’s dedicated number. I’ve never really had to wonder how the notification arrived. I never receive a text message for this. On my carrier’s web portal I only have an option to receive an email (which I’ve already enabled but is not ideal because I am not using mobile data), and another option to use an Android app. I can try that as a last resort (not sure whether or not it needs mobile data to work). Does everyone else receive a text message for new voicemails?

@mobl that’s an excellent observation. I don’t receive voicemail notifications either. I have an indicator on the Phone icon indicating a missed call, but no mention of voicemail at all. In fact, there is no mention of voicemail in the Phone tool at all. I suspect it simply hasn’t been implemented. If so, this is a glaring oversight.

It seems to me that this is a feature Mudita just hasn’t implemented on any of its phones; I had the same issue with the Pure not having a voicemail indicator despite having a voicemail indicator on other phones I’ve used with the same carrier. Hopefully they’ll add it to the Kompakt/OS K at some point!

@urszula can we get official confirmation on whether a voicemail indicator/notification (and quick dial) is on the roadmap for Mudita Kompact or not please? This is big functionality to go without. Thank you.

I always receive SMS with information that I have voicemail. I’ve never had any more notification about it, on any phone.

From the feedback I have had when people have tried to call me they say the phone is unavailable and there’s no option to leave a voicemail.

I’ve asked our team how this is handled on KOMPAKT, but I think it might be NETWORK specific, meaning it all depends on how your network provider handles this feature. Like others have mentioned, I also get a TEXT message in instances where I have a missed phone call and when I have a voicemail.

After some research, I think it’s because the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator) protocol is not enabled. As the MK is Android-based, hopefully this will be relatively easy to fix. Not all carriers offer SMS notifications (mine don’t). Thanks for checking @urszula
@reggie99 How odd. Is it only since you changed phones?

Yes, only since changing from my Nokia to MK. I’m not sure but I think it’s only when there is no signal.

It might be a different issue, in my case the caller still has the opportunity to leave a voicemail both in case of no signal and when I miss the call.

My mobile SIM provider (Lebara) just confirmed that they don’t send SMS messages whenever a voicemail is left. They expect handsets to indicate when a voicemail is available.

I can’t help feel that this is a gaping hole in the feature set of the Mudita Kompact. I checked with Light Phone 3 users and they do receive a notification whenever a voicemail is left.

I know others have mentioned that their carrier sends SMS messages whenever voicemails are left, and that may serve as a workaround for those lucky people, but this functionality really should be on the phone.

@urszula, would you please confirm if this is on the roadmap?

Many thanks.

Did the network provider say HOW they expect it to be indicated? Because I checked this on a traditional smartphone, here in POLAND- A Samsung S20 & the only way this phone gets info about voice messages is by the network provider PLAY sending an SMS.

I have to admit, I’m not entirely clear as to what to pass on to the team. HOW does your network (Lebara) notify users of a VM when they have, lets say an iPhone or an traditiona Android smartphone.
Some operators provide SMS when someone leaves a voicemail
Others doesn’t do that- I understand yours does not.
Others can use Class 0 message (I never saw that) which is a popup (But Mudita Kompakt does not have a NOTIFCATIONS TRAY)
Voicemail notifications probably need to be enabled or it is enabled by default depending on operator and tariff used.

@urszula, Lebara confirmed that they expect phones to be equipped with the functionality to indicate when voicemails are left. I can only assume that this means the phone supports MWI (as indicated above) or the relevant functionality that phones typically implement.

“Voicemail notifications probably need to be enabled or it is enabled by default depending on operator and tariff used.”

Yes, the majority of operators now expect devices to have voicemail notifications enabled. It seems that the MK does not have it.

So, in a nutshell:

Some operators provide SMS when someone leaves a voicemail. Others don’t. Exactly. That’s why it’s vital that Mudita implement this functionality. Before my return window closes on Thursday 22nd May, I would really appreciate confirmation that this functionality is coming.

Sideloading has meant that the present shortcomings of the MK are (mostly) easily plugged. But I can’t have a phone that doesn’t notify me when voicemails are left. It’s odd that this would be the dealbreaker, but it looks like it is.

@urszula, today is the last day of my 14-day return window, so I would very much need to hear from Mudita what the official line is on this functionality. If there’s a commitment to put it on the roadmap then I’ll be keeping the Kompact. If not, then with a heavy heart, it has to go back. Do you think you could push for some clarity on this today please?

Many thanks.

@petemeister
The next software release, which is 1.2.0 will include nearly 70 improvements and fixes, many of which regard the Music Player e.g.:

  1. Improved integration with the car’s music control system to ensure proper functionality with the Music Player app.
  2. Added a music widget to the home screen for quick access and control: You can now play, pause, skip to the next or previous track directly from the home screen.
  3. Enhanced the touch area responsiveness of the mini player component.
  4. Improved song list behavior in two scenarios:
—When the SD card containing music files is inserted, the tracks are automatically added to the list without requiring manual selection.
    – When the SD card is removed, a damaged file alert is displayed only once for tracks that were stored on the card.
  5. Excluded visibility of songs with unsupported formats from the track list.

Beyond this update, I don’t have any specifics yet. We’re still waiting to send out the North American version. After that happens, we will get the feedback from our NAM users & then get more info to the community.

I hope this helps.

Thanks @urszula. I’m sure those are welcome updates regarding music functionality. Regarding the rest of the roadmap, is there any commitment to add voicemail notifications functionality?

@petemeister I did some digging into your network provider & I found out that Lebara offers an SMS Notify service, which sends a text message to inform you when someone tried to call you while your phone was unreachable. This service requires active voicemail and can be activated by sending a text with “NOTIFY ON” to 935, or deactivated with “NOTIFY OFF” to the same number .
Voicemail is usually enabled by default on Lebara SIM cards. If it’s not active, you can set it up by dialing 2345 and following the prompts .

Thanks @urszula for this info. Personally, I don’t plan to return my phone for this because I can manage otherwise. If I miss a call and I know the number, I call back; if I miss a call from someone I don’t know, I call the voicemail central number. It doesn’t happen that often for me.
That said, I really hope this will be considered a priority bug. It’s important for you to understand that this is a key function for a phone, especially if it’s a minimalist one (where accent should be added to core function like this). If I have to give up my cheap carrier for one that sends text messages for voice messages, it goes against the minimalist philosophy. If I am asked about my phone, the impossibility of being notified in the event of a voice message will be one of the things I’ll bring up. I hope the reason why this function was never implemented in Pure, as @whyoungblood said, is because there were bigger problems to solve and not because you consider this function minor, right? Even if it’s not the first bug you notice (it took me several days to realize it), from my point of view it has an impact on the MK’s market-readiness and will prevent me from recommending it.

I hope I was convincing
