I now am in the phone but am having the same problem as other users. I am not getting text messages and I cannot edit the APNs. I can get to them and view them but I cannot change which APN I am using or change settings in the APN details.
I am having the same issue, missing texts from family and work. Thinking about switching phones, even though I would prefer not to. I went to try and edit the APNs and was unable as well. Frustrating since I did not seem to have any texting issues before the update.
Please make sure you have enabled MMS messages
Keep in mind there are two SEPARATE settings- one in SIM & one in NETWORK
Hi, thank you for the reply! I am not able to click into my SIM in settings. I have a physical SIM. I also do not see the setting in Network either. Is this a NA optimized phone difference?
@bonmaster I will have to ask our tech/dev team why this is happening. Itâs odd that youâre not able to access this info,
Okay, please let me know if you come across any solution! Thank you so much.
So I get to there but I donât have any ability to edit the APN. Sorry for the late response. So since receiving the NA Kompakt in May, Iâm still mostly using my iPhone SE 3rd Gen as my main phone. ![]()
Let me post the entire guide here. Sometimes, APN settings are carrier locked, if for example you donât have a specific service enabled.
Updating the APN settings on your Mudita Kompakt, which is a crucial step for getting mobile data and MMS to work correctly.
There are generally two reasons why you might be having trouble: either the âaddâ option is a bit hidden, or your mobile operator has locked the settings on your SIM card itself. This guide will help you determine which one it is.Part 1: How to Add a New APN on Your Mudita Kompakt.
First, letâs make sure we are looking in the right place. Please follow these steps exactly to add a new APN profile:1. Go to Settings: Open the main Settings menu.
2. Select Network & Internet: Tap on Network & Internet.
3. Select Mobile network: Tap on Mobile network.
4. Go to Advanced: Scroll down and tap on Advanced.
5. Select Access Point Names: Tap on Access Point Names (APNs).
6. Press the â+â Icon: In the top right corner of the screen, you should see a + symbol. Please tap this to create a new APN profile.
7. Enter and Save: Fill in the details provided by your carrier and then use the three-dot menu in the corner to Save the new APN. Make sure the newly created APN is selected. If you were able to press the + icon and add a new APN, your issue should now be resolved! If you could not find the + icon, or if all the fields were greyed out and uneditable, please continue to Part 2.Part 2: Understanding Carrier-Locked APN Settings- The âWhyâ: If you followed the steps above but could not add or edit an APN, it is because your mobile operator has intentionally locked these settings at the SIM card level. This is not a fault of your Mudita Kompakt. Carriers sometimes do this for specific types of plans, such as:
- Certain prepaid or MVNO plans.
- Corporate or business accounts.
- SIM cards intended for IoT devices.
- What You Would See:** When APNs are locked, you will typically see that the fields are âgreyed outâ and cannot be tapped, or the + icon to add a new profile is completely missing.
- The Solution: Because this is a restriction set by your mobile operator, the only solution is to contact their customer support. You can explain that your device requires custom APN settings and ask if they can either unlock them or switch you to a plan that allows for APN editing.
Alternatively, the issue can be resolved by using a different SIM card from a provider that does not lock APN profiles. We hope this guide has helped you identify the cause of the issue. To summarize, first, try adding a new APN using the steps in Part 1. If you find the settings are locked, the next step is to speak with your mobile operator. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Replying to the original post, just wanted to mention that I encountered the same issue. My old phone is an iPhone 13 Pro with an eSIM, my new phone is the Mudita Kompakt. In the Verizon dashboard, you can usually select âChange Deviceâ under the settings of your phone line/account. After clicking Change Device, typically you enter the IMEI number of the new phone and Verizon will transfer the eSIM to the new device. After entering in the IMEI of the Kompakt, there is a âValidation Errorâ and you cannot continue the process. I spoke with Verizon, and they said the Kompakt is not a supported device because it is not in their system. I asked them to add it. Three weeks went by, and they said the process was ongoing. It has been very annoying. As of yesterday, I asked them to cancel the ticket, cancel my eSIM, and send me a physical SIM through the mail. Once I receive the physical SIM I will activate it on the iPhone 13 Pro, then insert the SIM into the Kompakt and all should be good. I will say that while it may be true that the Kompakt works with Verizon towers, the eSIM transfer does not seem to work. I wish Mudita had tested this aspect of compatibility. If I had known that for Verizon, transferring the eSIM by entering the IMEI of the Kompakt will not work, I would have initiated the transfer to a physical SIM while ordering the Kompakt so that both the Kompakt and the physical SIM would arrive at similar times. If you are in this boat, I highly suggest you switch from eSIM to a physical SIM before/while ordering your Kompakt, at least if you have Verizon.
Did this work and can you get MMS messages?
It did work for the most part. I have not received all messages from friends and particularly group chats, but for the most part I am sending/receiving messages without issue. From other chats I saw people de-register their from iMessage and RCS messaging using these links:
Hi everyone, Iâm currently a Verizon NA user, seriously considering purchasing a Mudita Kompakt, and was hoping to ask the community if all the challenges with regards to Verizon been resolved (itâs been a few months since the previous posts)? Specifically can users activate their phones and use them (texts, group texts, calls) on the Verizon network easily, reliably, and WITHOUT issue? If so, has Mudita published an updated guide on exactly how to do so? For reference Iâm currently using an iPhone 15 Pro with an eSIM.
Many thanks in advance for any knowledge / experience you may be able to share! Steven
I am not aware if they have fixed this problem, as far as I know they have not.
My current work around is go to t-mobile and get a SIM, use open bubbles app to push Iphone messages to the mudita.
Not really an ideal situation and truthfully its difficult to fully replace an iphone with the mudita.
Thank you for sharing where things are presently at for you. Does Open Bubbles push/sync all of your iPhone messages (texts, iMessage, RCS, MMS) to all of your devices? If so, this would be a great way to manage messages on all of my devices - MacBook, iPhone 15 Pro, and Mudita Kompakt!
If I recall it has to be setup from a Macbook.
Open bubbles will only sync iMessages I believe, but in the app it will show pictures and emojis and stuff from iPhone and Mac. If you have a lot of people who use iMessage it works pretty well, if not there are apps to forward texts to email but it becomes a bit much.
Last I did this I had to side load these apps onto the Mudita, they may have integrated an official methodâŚif youâre trying to eliminate distraction by not using your iPhone I might try and find a way to get rid of it completely, I donât like that this system is still reliant on it, the iPhone is too addictive and youâll fall back into using it out of convenience.
Thank you for the additional color! This is really helpful in thinking through how best to configure my own setup.
It sounds like you are no longer actively using the setup?
As for me, it is not possible to completely get rid of my iPhone because of certain needs - home alarm system, banking apps, and emergency satellite communications (I live in a hurricane zone), etc. but I plan to:
1 - Place my iPhone in a hidden corner and only fetch it for critical/secure things (home alarm events, securely depositing checks, emergency satellite communications, etc.).
2 - Disable iMessage + RCS.
3 - Move my primary line to the Kompakt (given that Open Bubbles may not handle all text message types).
4 - Get a second/backup line for my iPhone for emergency use.
Yes you should be fine. I generally try to keep my iPhone away in a drawer and use the Mudita. You can sideloan and use 85% of things youâll probably need.
@stevenjc123 Thank you for reaching out. The challenges with Verizon & AT&T are not something that can easily be resolved.
Weâve discussed this on the FORUM many times. The US wireless marketplace is tightly controlled by carriers who have a habit of picking winners and losers, while setting prices and insisting that there shouldnât be any oversight. Basically thereâs a reason why the phones you typically see in Verizon or AT&T stores are the ones you see. The U.S. wireless market is heavily influenced by those carriers themselves. They want you to BUY the phone they offer at their price & NOT go outside of the ecosystem and choose a device on your own. Thatâs why they insist that each device be specially certified for their network & the big tech companies can afford to play along, but unfortunately, we canât.
So, with activating on Verizon (or AT&T), we recommend using another device- one thatâs authorized by them, initially (just for the activation process & then moving the SIM card over to Mudita Kompakt) or manually entering the APN settings if needed.
Hi all, thank you so much for all the tips above!
I was able to get my Mudita Kompakt to (fully) work on Verizon network as a secondary device to my iPhone within ~20m and so thought I would share exactly how with the community.
1 - Go to your local Verizon store.
2 - Add a new/second line to your Verizon account and request a physical SIM.
(Note: the Verizon rep placed an already activated âTest SIMâ in the phone and confirmed both the ability to place/receive calls and send/receive texts - I wouldnât recommend skipping this step bc it provides skeptical staff with an immediate proof that it could work and then enrolls them into the process)
3 - Activate your new Verizon physical SIM card in a different device recognized by the carrier - not the Kompakt - and then put it in the Kompakt.
(Note: I did not have a different device recognized by the carrier that accepts physical SIM cards and so the rep just placed it into a demo phone they had on the wall and then transferred it into my phone).
4 - Manually input/confirm the networkâs APN settings (the options are under Network & Internet - click your network provider).
Your carrier should be able to provide you with the details for those.
(Note 1: I was able to see these settings but nobody working in the store knew what these were or what the correct settings should be so and insisted that the Verizon SIM card automatically inputs these settings)
Note 2: I looked up the Verizon APN settings online post-visit and the recommended APN is vzwinternet with the APN type set to default, dun (these were both correctly set). I was not be able to manually edit fields like MMSC (which should be set for âhttp://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mmsâ) or MMS port (which should be set for 80). This may mean that the defaults are in place that âMMS (picture messaging) may not work, but calls and data shouldâ. I tested sending a photo to my Kompakt from my iPhone via text and it worked so I donât think this is / will be an issue. However, I sent a short video and was able to see a still preview but the Kompakt displayed the error âFile type not supportedâ - unsure if this is normal behavior - Mudita? Anyone?
UPDATED NOTE: I have MuditaOS K 1.3.0 as MuditaOS K 1.4.0 is not showing yet available so this may be the reason why?
5 - Test placing/receiving cellular calls.
6 - Test sending/receiving individual texts.
(Note: everything worked immediately however, in order to receive texts, I had to restart my phone and wait ~1h back at home)
6 - Test sending/receiving group texts.
(Note: as the latest OS update was not available, I could not test this)
7 - Go to âSettingsâ > âNetwork and Internetâ > âMobile Networkâ > âAdvancedâ > Scroll down to âWi-Fi Callingâ and toggle it on. Connect to the Verizon in-store guest network and test/confirm Wi-Fi calling.
Lastly, I should mention that I provide the salesperson with a small gratuity envelope upfront for their âassistance with an unorthodox activationâ and let them play with the device. This was not necessary but it didnât hurt!
Other Notes from Mudita
-
We suggest using a physical SIM card instead of eSIM, as our users indicated less issues with US carriers.
-
We also recommend T-mobile, as it looks like it causes fewer issues for our users than other major US networks.
Iâll continue to keep the community posted if I run into any issues and please do the same!
This is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!
