Top 3 features you'd like to see on the Kompact soon?

@eInkMaiden (your name is brilliant btw)
Thank you for the feedback & I will pass them on to the team. I can say that our team is already working on implementing a feature that will make it possible to remove installed apps via Mudita Center. In the meantime, you can also sideload an app call Batch Uninstaller, which will let you do that as well.
Additionally, the team is also planning Music app improvements, but I will ask them if a repeat button in part of the changes

It’s a bit difficult without cursor keys or a joystick. Tap on it to rotate, swipe to move. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

This is great! I wish you would consider adding an Arabic keyboard layout. Would probably open up the market quite a bit too!

I absolutely love my MK, and manage to get by with only a few sideloaded apps. (Mostly from the folks maintaining the MindApps - shout out to them!) I know this is almost certainly repeating what many have said but three things that would make it much easier to use and more reliable for me:

  1. Some kind of native voicemail app. I currently have to remember to dial into my carrier’s voicemail daily, which requires setting an alarm to remind me to check my voicemail multiple times a day, but sometimes my MK doesn’t notify me that the alarm to check my voicemail has gone off, which means I set an alarm on another device to make sure, which means that I’m focusing on multiple devices rather than one (or ideally zero!) devices … you probably get the picture on why this isn’t my ideal use case for a mindful focused phone.
  2. More control over notifications for SMS/MMS and for missed calls (such as none for unknown numbers, but notifications for desginated contacts). As an example: I don’t want to be notified if a random spam call has been received, but I do want to know if my kid’s day care, my spouse, my boss, or my doctor’s office are calling/texting me.
  3. Music player improvements - better sorting/filtering, ability to create playlists with ease, ability to put a song on repeat without having to manually start it over (for things like white noise tracks for sleeping, for example.

Those are the biggest things for me - otherwise, with minimal sideloading of apps it already does almost everything I need it to in an accessible and easy way.

For me, just a radio would make a big difference.

@willba Voicemail is typically handled by the network provider. We are working on notifications for VM, which are on the roadmap:

  2. Music player improvements - better sorting/filtering, ability to create playlists with ease, ability to put a song on repeat without having to manually start it over (for things like white noise tracks for sleeping, for example.

Music player improvements are also on the roadmaps, along with custom notifications.

  1. Better texting experience/Smoother keyboard/More emojis
  2. Custom mp3 alarm and notification sounds
  3. To get rid of the resting screen with the unlock button and just have the phone black when turned off

(4th group chats don’t work 70% of the time i would love if they did)

Hi - after using the Kompakt for about a month, I am changing my answers. I’ve discovered that some standard basic phone functionality that’s built in to all other devices simply don’t work on the Kompakt. Considering that the whole point of this phone is to be ā€œjust a phone without distractions,ā€ the ā€œjust a phoneā€ part should work flawlessly.

  1. Voice notes. This is a standard form of communication now. It should be native to the Kompakt.
  2. Voicemail. Every other phone I’ve ever owned (I think 12 since high school) has had built in voicemail support. You get notifications when you get a new voicemail, and a single button to press to open it. I had no idea that I wasn’t getting voicemail notifications until a friend asked me about a voicemail they left me. This is a major problem, considering you don’t tell customers that voicemail doesn’t work how it does on just about every other phone in the market.
  3. I can receive group messages, but if I reply to the thread, all of a sudden I’m sending several (or dozens, depending on the group) individual messages? What? MMS has been a standard since 2002 and a standard for group messaging since 2010. Please support this.

Everything I’m requesting here is just basic phone stuff. To be super blunt, if I didn’t know this stuff was not supported, I would not have bought the Kompakt. Why would I ever assume that the basic features of an old flip phone (let alone a modern phone) aren’t supported?

I sold my first Kompakt last year, but I believe that you can fix #3.

In contrast, we are still waiting for #2 (Q3 2026) and #1 (to be determined whether this is on the roadmap).

A few secondary issues (i.e. not as mission critical as the phone working as a basic phone) that I’d like to see addressed:

  1. When scrolling on the phone, if my finger ever touches one of the 3 dedicated ā€œtouch zonesā€ at the very bottom of the phone, it overrides whatever I was doing. Quite frustrating to be scrolling through my contacts list to find somebody, when all of a sudden I’m back to my home screen. This would be quite trivial for your team to address by tracking the ā€œstarting touch pointā€; if somebody didn’t touch one of those buttons directly, but rather scrolled to them, I would guess that 99 times out of 100 (if not 100/100) they didn’t intend to touch those buttons.
  2. Chess… I really wish the game wouldn’t immediately stop with a popup that you can’t remove when the game is finished. If I lose, usually my king is in my half, and I sometimes have no idea how I lost. There should be some way to remove that popup so that users can actually learn. Additional desire here: let people continue to use the features available at every other turn in the game, i.e. undoing and seeing past moves. I’ve been learning a lot about chess and different strategies by trying things then going back to the moment where I had a few options. If I lose the game trying something different, it sucks to not be able to go back in time to the moment that I was experimenting from.
  3. Signal. A few problems related to this: 1- Any time I use the ā€œtake a photoā€ feature from within Signal, the app crashes. 2- There are no notifications visible when I receive messages. 3- I get an audible notification for every message I receive, including message threads that I have muted. The Kompakt should let Signal control the notifications based on the settings that i’ve given it; it should not decide for Signal.

oh? how does one go about doing that? If you have any links to relevant resources, I’d really appreciate that.

Check out this post by @urszula:

Thank you so much @kirkmahoneyphd! Why the heck would the default ever be to send individual messages within a group thread?! That makes ZERO sense.

@Mudita you guys really should change the default in your next update. MMS group messaging has been a standard for over 15 years now; people should not need to manually set it the SMS app to work how every other phone works by default.

I read your post about VM & I’ll just tag my post here in case someone is interested:

Just to make sure I understand your request (and that we’re on the same page) are you looking to be able to RECORD voice notes & send them via SMS & not a third party messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal?

Have you enabled group messaging on your phone? The options are in the SMS settings & they exist because different people have different needs,

I’ve tried sending pics as text message. I’ve some trouble doing so.

  1. Full group text capabilities. The entire saga of deregistering from iMessage and RCS, and then continuing to miss group texts(!) completely defeats the purpose of a device meant for communication. It is the number one reason I may get rid of the phone, and the only reason my friends, who otherwise want to switch to the Kompakt, will not do so. At the very least, in the interim, have clear and thorough instructions on a dedicated webpage on the Mudita website about everything we need to do to make sure we get texts, and reasons we might miss them.
  2. Voice-to-text capabilities instead of typing.
  3. There have been multiple instances where I send photos via MMS and they don’t go through.

Perhaps Mudita can post a dedicated page similar to this one?
