Mudita Kompakt: Wireless Qi charging doesn't work

So my Mudita Kompakt arrived the other day and I’m very happy with it so far. See my other topic about it if you’re interested in my impressions.

I have only one issue that bugs me so far and that is wireless charging since it doesn’t seem to work properly. Maybe someone has advice for me or at least similar experiences. I already opened a support ticket with Mudita, but wanted to start discussing this with the community as well for the reasons stated above.

So unfortunately I had to discover that wireless Qi charging doesn’t work. I’ve tested it with two different wireless Qi chargers: Anker 12W and Belkin 15W. When placing the Mudita Kompakt on the Qi charger it starts slow charging according to the info on the display and the LED of the wireless Qi charger, but shortly afterwards charging just stops.

I’ve updated Mudita Kompakt to the latest version 1.1.1 and restarted it several times. I’ve also tried it while the device is shut off. I’ve tried connecting the wireless chargers to a different power outlet as well. All to no avail

The wireless chargers in questions are the following:

Anker
Belkin

How is wireless Qi charging going with your Mudita? Any recommendations for a wireless Qi charger or should the one mentioned above work? I just hope that my device doesn’t has a defect or something…

The charging coil is located in the bottom 1/4 of the phone. it works, you just need to get the placement correct, which might be tricky on an upright stand style charger. I think most other QI coilds are fairly centred, so this takes a little getting used to.

Thanks, but I’ve already read about this here on the board and placed the Mudita accordingly, but however I try it on both those wireless chargers it starts briefly charging for a few seconds confirmed by a on-screen message as well as the charging LED of the wireless chargers turning on, but only to stop shortly thereafter.

@felensis Do you have your case on?

Yes, it is the official Mudita Kompakt case, but I’ve already tried it without the case and it is the same. No matter how I’m trying to place the phone on both of the wireless chargers the outcome is like I’ve described. It briefly starts slow wireless charging and then suddenly stops. My iPhone which I have due to my job is just working fine on the very same wireless charger.

Charging via USB cable is working fine though.

I posted how I put a metal ring on my case and directly on the phone using a sticker here, maybe that helps? Adapting phone and case to use magsafe accessories I chose the location based on this picture https://forum.mudita.com/uploads/default/original/2X/1/1c5af040f4bcc1ffcc021e59cc59244008ba9a54.jpeg And even with a couple milimiters difference I would see the same behavior of it starting to charge and then stopping.

Thanks, but some DIY solution is not a solution for me. I love the look of the device and since wireless charging is officially supported one would expect it to work without some DIY stuff. Mind you I don’t need MagSafe. I just want to charge my phone wirelessly.

@felensis Let me ask our team if they ever tested this type of charger.

Hi urszula I’ve discovered something interesting regarding this issue.

Our car, an Audi A4 Avant from 2017, already has a built-in wireless Qi charger. According to the internet this charger uses either 5W or 10W and on this very wireless charger my Mudita Kompakt charges just fine. So the good news is that there doesn’t seem to be a hardware defect.

That leaves the question why it won’t charge on neither the Belkin (which I’ve already returned since I assumed it was somehow broken) nor the Anker wireless Qi charger (which I have still here). Both officially support slow charging with i.e. 5W, 7.5W or 10W, but yet it doesn’t work with the Mudita Kompakt.

So maybe this is indeed some kind of software issue on Mudita’s end?

@felensis I will ask the team. I can’t even begin to guess why it works in your car & doesn’t work in the other charger.

Thanks in advance!
Meanwhile I have another wireless charger incoming. The IKEA LIVBOJ wireless Qi charger  This one is officially rated with a maximum charging rate of just 5W instead of the 10W of Belkin and Anker (even though that shouldn’t matter at all). I’ll report back once I’ve tested this one.

So today the IKEA LIVBOJ wireless qi charger arrived (max. 5W) and unfortunately with the same result. The Kompakt just briefly starts wireless charging and then stops.

All three tested wireless Qi chargers (Anker, Belkin, IKEA) responded the same: Their respective LED blinked three times which according to the manuals means there is a general fault like an incompatible device.

I’ve tested those three wireless Qi chargers with different power plugs on different power outlets. All with the same result. Only wireless charger so far working with the Kompakt is the one in our car as I already said.

So this is really weird. Hope to hear back from the team since I can’t tell if this is due to a hardware defect of my Kompakt or hopefully just another software bug.

Yes, this does seem odd to me & must be super frustrating. I totally get it. I passed your feedback on to the team, so let’s see if they can offer some more perspective.
