Disappointing, so much effort being wasted on dead end apps like the music and e-reader, no mention of fingerprint button issues, screen modes, lock screen…
I gotta say, I know there’s no way to satisfy all users because everyone has different needs and requests.
But not a single point touching the E-ink display modes is very disappointing.
What’s the use of allowing Sideloading through Mudita Center when most third-party apps are difficult to use due to Google’s Stupid Material Design and due to Mudita’s not providing us with E-ink display controls.
At least provide us an SDK so we can use it for our own apps.
I like the list, I also hope other things that were pain points for many of us here just couldn’t be put into the pipeline yet and are going to be tackled in the next update.
Thanks, but did I miss mention of the following in this blog post?
- Long-pressing [1] for direct access to voicemail
- Inability to start a new group message in the “SMS” app
- These three more bugs in the “SMS” app
@kirkmahoneyphd Group Messaging is in the next update. It’s in the BLOG- planned for Fall 2025, at the latest. It should cover the bugs related to group messages.
I’ll ask about what the plan is with the Voice Mail issue.
@urszula, thank you for checking on long-pressing [1] to access voicemail – a hot topic and daily-used feature among USA-based forum visitors!
Also, I see now the reference to group messaging – coming in the Fall of 2025 – but not necessarily in September of 2025?
So sorry, that was my typo. It’s coming in the fall, along with the bugs. Thanks for pointing it out.
I appreciate the effort going into bringing the stock apps up to a more usable state, but I would prefer to see some of the critical issues like the pocket dialing with the fingerprint sensor, and the lack of group messaging and voicemail notification support, being prioritized first.
I think this is one of the bugs they are working on. Let me confirm with the team.
Personally I love auto-space and hope for more keyboard improvements. In the future, please keep the ideas of:
- auto-correct (right now typing “zol” makes it impossible to get “żółty” or “żółć” as a suggestion),
- regarding screenshots, so far there’s no force feedback upon successfully pressing the key combo; most people might expect it to know they done it right,
- recurring calendar items, as well as sync options perhaps?
- alarm/apt granularity up to 1 minute?
- chess PvP mode,
- group messaging (Fall 2025 it says),
- (option to) press buttons for frontlight toggle,
- fingerprint sensor and touch logic ]:->
- lock screen customization,
- ability to set PIN between 4 and 8 characters,
- notes import/export,
- calculator memory button and ability to copy/paste numbers in and out (in general I think there is some room for improvement over time, lowest priority IMO),
- tiny UI things from the support thread (such as phone number staying in the phone app dial text input field, or % of battery charge on the top bar,
- double-checking that nasty alarm (not going off on time; works fine on my end) or other apps (podcasts cut after a minute) issues that might be related to DuraSpeed,
- make alarm run the sound more than once, until tapped done (for hard sleepers like me on a business trip),
- custom ringtones/alarms,
- countdown/stopwatch,
- battery health tweaks such as 80% charging limit,
- camera focus indicator where tapped (if really a thing with that camera).
Did I miss something? I barely use the phone because that’s my point but those are still things that would be great to have. From my side honestly it’s more about making existing features more robust and UI behavior well-cooked rather than adding a new feature.
Edit: removing calls from history and seeing list of paired devices to be able to reconnect to them
Thank you - really good to see enhancements being worked on, and good to see so many improvements both now and coming up. I already have used my Kompakt as my only phone since it was launched, and I’m really happy with it.
I also noticed Michał’s phone was locked with no Mudita logo on it! It wasn’t announced, but I am looking forward to that improvement too
I think I will buy Mudita Kompakt after this update. The ability to install apps like Spotify to listen to podcasts or Messenger to communicate with friends will be a great convenience. The Navigation update will also be a great update, I often ride a bike and the only thing I listen to is a map of where to go. I still miss the only option to turn on music in the meditation app - personally I prefer to listen to something in the background while meditating. Similarly, in the meditation function in Mudita Harmony I miss turning on the melody line during meditation.
To view a picture, Camera app has to be opened. Photo Gallery as a separate App to view pictures is welcome.
I have been using the Kompakt as my main and only phone for the past two weeks, and I am very happy with it. It is near perfect for my usage. Turn-by-turn navigation for bicycles is great news. I hope we will be able to select audio notifications instead of voice indications, like a beep some meters before a turn to catch attention.
Please add the ability to import (and follow) GPX files, and some sort of directory (like on the LightPhone), and it will be perfect.
Regarding the French keyboard, in addition to adding the ‘m’ letter, please replace the useless ‘ù’ with a quote/apostrophe.
I asked our team about the directory, as right now that’s not a priority. However, one of our long time community members, @minimalist4life has sideloaded YELP. Maybe that’s an option for you.
Yay! I feel happy with this update. The music app having playlists implemented, point to point navigation and meditation statistics being updated to have a streak would be so helpful! I use the Kompakt as it is without any APKs and I find it fits my use case. I’m also coming from the LP2 and the Kompakt seems like a significant update compared to what I was using before. I think the only thing that I feel is missing would be the ability to see the opening hours of shops on maps and contact number …
I was also thinking a habit tracker would be quite nice to have with the Kompakt. It would be great to build habits and I feel the layout could be very compatible with eink since it’s just checkboxes and words. Could you also suggest this to the team?
Hello, 5 basic updates that would be fantastic:
- Lock Screen: Options to customize or change the lock screen. Even something as simple as taking off the text and just have the Mudita logo would be great.
- Alarm Clock: Ability to turn OFF/ON the vibrate. I really just want the sound only. Also, ability to increase the “snooze” time to 10 or 15 mins.
- Data: An on/off toggle in the settings for turning off data in the settings nav.
- App Layout Order: Option to re-order the apps in the apps page.
- Clear all app activity: Option to clear all app activity (similar to closing tabs) I think this will improve battery life.
Thanks!
Yelp is not an option for me. I live in the countryside, and Yelp can’t find anything nearby. I think I will sideload GMaps WV, which is a webview for the mobile web app of Google Maps.
I have been using Organic Maps for years, and I know that there isn’t much data like opening hours and phone numbers. Honestly, and very unfortunately, anything not based on the Google API is almost useless.
Nice phone, but for everyday use it lacks a few features. Here they are:
- changing the name of sim cards (very useful when there are two),
- ability to edit contacts stored on sim card,
- mention above ability to set custom sounds for call, sms and alarm signals,
- add visual and sound notification for calendar events with custom sound,
- add multiple notifications to the calendar event like 3 days earlier, 1 day earlier and the like,
- add recurring calendar entries, e.g. taking place daily, weekly, monthly, yearly
- more advanced calculator functions (lower priority).
In addition, I found two bugs:
- sorting of contacts doesn’t work in Favorites,
- with default keyboard settings I could not get letters with diacritical marks after holding down a given letter. It started working only after setting “Custom Input Styles” (in my case Polish Dvorak), but in this case the keyboard layout still remains qwerty.
Once the above features are on the phone I think it will then become my main device.
Lastly, there are many games (if there are any to be had), such as go, sudoku and even tetris. I wonder why chess?
