Please, I’ve been using this as my daily driver for the last few months now. I’m a stay at home parent and depending on SMS for communication. I actually have loved this as my daily but since I’ve updated yesterday I haven’t been able to use the SMS.
I’ve tried restarting and factory resetting. Would love a fast solution as I have a few friends in the middle of crisis and I don’t have 24/7 access to the internet now that I use this phone.

That happens in text convos that are very long, you’ll have to delete the text thread and start over, or side load a different sms messanger

Solved by sideloading a SMS app?
I’m so sorry that you are experiencing issues. I’ve passed on all the reports of the SMS app crashing to the team. They are looking into it, but unfortunately, I don’t have an answer yet. Our apologies for this inconvenience. I’ll come back with more info once I get details.
The SMS app doesn’t launch for me anymore, after setting up the eSIM. Rebooting the phone results in the “SMS app stopped working” alert. Maybe activating the eSIM has something to do with it. Sideloading Fossify Messages does work as an alternative for now.

Maybe you could sideload some other SMS app until it is fixed
