Top 3 features you'd like to see on the Kompact soon?

My top 3

  • Proper support for managing notifications - including for sideloaded apps
  • Proper support for sideloaded apps, e.g. ability to cleanly switch default applications, including launcher
  • Better customization support, e.g. custom ringtones, and also fix the sound - notifications are louder at 10% than person on the call at 100% volume (who sounds like they are sitting in a deep well).

Rant:
I’ve had the phone (NA version) for 3 weeks now. After sideloading apps and going through an unintended factory reset, my current set-up seems mostly reliable, so I plan to stick with the Kompakt as my main phone.

I have to say though that I was pretty disappointed with it out of the box. I am coming from a Pixel 4a w/ GrapheneOS - so already de-googled and minimal. I’m not addicted to phones, so I don’t need friction to access the functionality I want. I have loaded and used LineageOS on older phones and have used Hisense e-Ink phone form-factor devices. I was interested in the Mudita Kompakt for it’s e-Ink and small form-factor - essentially hoping for Hisense quality h/w with de-googled OS, and working on the NA networks.

I was planning to only sideload Signal and Protonmail. Now I have also sideloaded Koreader, AntennaPod (for podcasts and audiobooks), VLC (for music playlists), QuikSMS, Fossify Calendar & FileSystem, & OLauncher - all from the f-Droid store. These are solid apps, so rather than work on the in-house versions to reach parity with these open source apps, I’d rather the team spend time on making the Kompakt a reliable and highly customizable phone.

Top 3 for me would be:

  • More time options in the calendar. Alert time more than 5 min, and event time intervals less than 15 min.
  • Double space = period/full stop on the keyboard.
  • Some different options for SMS tone, shorter noises or no sound at all.

I would say keyboard responsiveness, but that’s coming in 1.2. Otherwise I think this phone is great.

in germany providers are “killing” the mms feature. :frowning: Vodafone has god rid of this function since last year and Telekom is considering it yearly… Sad that this will be gone here. Besides the cost I really like to send pictures with my kompakt.

@urszula can you actually clarify if in the upcoming update (or maybe the next one) we will get the option to customise the locked screen? I mean not only removing the Mudita logo and leaving a blank screen, but actually having the option the set a locked screen wallpaper?

I actually want something very simple, but will bring a nice personal touch to my device - I would love to use my initials for the locked screen :smirk:

I would like a calendar sync capability. It’s ok if it has to sync via the Mudita centre (which could handle the updates e.g. from Google calendar on the computer) as I like the phone being off line.

A part of me would like to be able to save tickets in a. wallet. I often travel by train and having the QR code ticket available would be great

Contactless payment would also be handy (but not essential)

@astratev I’ll ask the team for some specifics.

  • Add Hidden WiFi Network in settings...
  • Custom Lock Screen Image
  • Custom command for long pressing the Settings button, e.g., app switcher, screen refresh, etc.

Can you please expand on this? I’m not sure what, exactly, you’re looking for? To make it difficult to connect to Wifi?

Could be to be able to “hide” SSID of MK-enabled hotspot. Others would see “hidden network” if anything on their devices unless they provide the right name before the password.

Most Wi-Fi networks broadcast their name (SSID) so the device can easily find and connect to them. This is the only scenario that the Kompakt is configured for currently.

However, I do use a couple of hidden networks which don’t broadcast the SSID / name. So these networks won’t show up in the list of available Wi-Fi networks. I have to manually enter the name and other details to connect.

The Kompakt doesn’t have a menu to do this, so I’m stuck using networks that might not be trusted and without a VPN.

@jmudita Thank you so much for explaining this. I will ask our team of this is something that they are considering.

Besides stuff already in the works (group texting, calendar sync etc), I’d like:
Voice to text capability for texting and Notes
AM/FM Radio
Adjustable fonts for senior eyes to read

  1. Group Text
  2. Notifications from apps like whatsapp or beeper would be nice
  3. Easier way to download pictures, perhaps an option to having them emailed.
  4. A basic browser, that lets me see links in text. (maybe against the ethos, but my biggest gripe is things like fedex or ups)
