Are you still using the pure? lol…just had to know

These companies are not non-profit. Designing something useful while trying to stay true to their philosophy will involve trade-offs. The Light Phone III is certainly a hamstrung smartphone. We have to wait a few weeks to know what Mudita is planning. Most of what they have released so far is contrary to what most smartphones are intended for.

I for one am not looking for a minimalist phone. Social media is not a problem for me. A smartphone replaces devices I already use at home. The screentime is only being consolidated to one device. The Kompakt appeals to me due to its e-ink display and size.

I am yes. Looking forward to the new one.

Wow! and it still works for you eh thats so surprising. I wish I had this luck when I owned mine. The best I could get was when I had it on fido but even fido it was inconsistent connection when I was in the house

I ended up switching to Rogers

And it works for you? I was using Fido which is owned by Rogers . Are you able to consistently get signal inside your house and around the city? Are you able to receive calls and text messages with no issues?

I am so tempted to actually test out Rogers on the Mudita lol, I loved this phone so much but just could not get it to work but the fact that you are still using it is unreal you are so lucky!

I will start soon, with all ups and downs. Will start as secondary phone, and depends on reliability with operator, might become No 1

@anon11367638 Did you buy a Mudita Pure? You’re not in the EU, right? Please let us know what how the network connectivity is when you get the phone?

Yes, Serbia is just a eu candidate, not a member.
However, my operator is eu based and has good signal in Belgrade.
Aa soon as it pass custom and I pay import duties I will have a month of testing it as backup phone, and then nice review can follow.

From Pure 1 experience what needs to be fixed with Pure 2:, thanks to @shak
I would just add voice recorder for calls or sounds.
and 5 years part availability, dedicated repair in Europe and software fixes.
0. Large FONTS! optional

  1. Lousy signal reception. You can Google it , everyone has issues with signal due to low SAR
  2. Bluetooth connectivity has issues. Sound doesn’t work over Bluetooth at random times
  3. No T9. Combined with low refresh rate , you will never manage to write an SMS fast without typos
  4. Battery drain due to constantly trying the best tower for signal reception
  5. Music player doesn’t have forward button, playlists , sort by artists or sort of any kind.
  6. Music can’t be played on the background. So if you listen to music and try to write a note or receive call you lose history of last played song. Forget podcasts or audiobooks
  7. No ability to run two apps same time
  8. Meditation app doesn’t offer a way to know that it’s finished
  9. Can’t add custom ringtones
  10. Can’t multidelete songs from phone
  11. Volte only supported to a few countries in Europe
  12. Text encoding other than English and a few more languages (4) only supported. So if ypu receive an SMS and your country language is not supported everything is displayed in gibberish characters.
  13. Call waiting not available
  14. Overpriced (larger volumes could help that, and smaller profit margin, if possible)
15… voice recorder for calls or sounds.
  15. years part availability, dedicated repair in Europe and software fixes.
17, If screen, CPU and graphics allow it, PDF, TXT, CBR and e’book reader as all in one app would be welclome
  16. MMS view support
  17. Signal protocol text messages
  18. Offline maps (updatable via Center)
Whatever possible should be backported to Pure 1

Ill duplicate @forest_cat prevous list, so it can be
“Must haves”:

  1. Be like the original Pure in almost every respect, apart from:
  2. Handle SMS reliably.
  3. Don’t crash/freeze.
  4. Display a received MMS (picture message) on the screen, even if the phone cannot send or forward them. If the hardware is incapable of this, at the bare minimum, have the phone notify the user there is an MMS waiting to retrieve, and allow Mudita Center to retrieve the MMS from the network to display it on the computer.

Some “should-haves” include:

  1. Replying to MMS even if just to send textual information, for instance to facilitate group chatting.
  2. Improvements to the music player, e.g. ability to play an album, or all albums by an artist, based on ID3 tags. At present I think the player just plays all the audio files present, with no sorting by tags.
  3. VoLTE
  4. Ability to tether by Bluetooth and/or act as a WiFi hotspot if a WiFi chip is included in the design.

Some “would like to haves” include:

  1. A client for Signal, like Punkt’s “Pigeon”
  2. A Keepass 2.x -compatible password-safe, so users can display saved passwords on the screen. A similar J2ME app used to exist for feature-phones around 10 years ago.
  3. An OTP (2FA) app so that users can securely sign into things like banks without a smartphone. It would be a pain to set up without a camera but can be done (use the keypad to type the TOTP secret into the app).
  4. A very basic PDF/image viewer. The screen is too small to use as an e-reader, but this feature would be useful for things like displaying QR-codes (e.g. copy your plane ticket to the Pure).
  5. VoWiFi (requires WiFi chip), as this would mitigate a lot of the issues with poor reception/signal.

Some “could haves” include:

  1. Basic camera, even if only 640x480. Could take colour or B&W photos, it really doesn’t matter, as the Pure’s e-ink screen would be fine as a viewfinder. I’m not so bothered about this, but it would perhaps be useful in an emergency situation. It might even be good to have the Pure 2 in a camera and camera-free version, for those who don’t want the feature.

Personally I think adding any “online” features such as podcasts, maps, liftsharing or dating, would set the Pure down a very slippery slope, turning it into a smartphone for people who want to pretend they don’t want a smartphone. Everybody would have a different idea of what an “essential” or “minimal” app would be. I’d rather any Pure 2 would only have the minimum online functionality required to either tether another device or perform calling/messaging.

I actually don’t think we are ever going to see a Pure 2

Then I will own best modern dumb phone, yet EOL in both software and hardware repair/support
It seems Pure has generated enough interest, but failed to succeed due to SAR antenna, speaker and software problems that small company was unable to fix.
They deserve a second chance, be it that they work on above problems.

Kompakt sucees, as e-ink smarthone that could have wider market, would make Pure 2 possible.

So now, its time to support Kompakt

I have to agree. It wasn’t perfect. But has potential to be. Still use mine on week nights and weekends. Stress free. Really looking forward to a camera perhaps some simple maps would be nice too for the weekend to help get you to those peaceful places yet no distractions.

And you said it works for you perfectly on rogers with no issues? You can reception in your house and inside malls etc around town

It would be great to see Pure 2 one day, since pures
strengths of low sar antenna has turned into nightmare
There is one more operator I haven’t tried in my country but I opt for outlet black pure again, only if software
update comes (mp3, large fonts, dark theme, calendar schedule, notes editable in Center, T9 …) and there is no Pure 2
