Hi, I’ve seen that the Kompakt will have a Maps app, however I’m not clear if it actually has a navigate function. Will the maps just show your current location, or does it have turn-by-turn navigation functionality?
Thanks for clarification
It has turn by turn navigation, the maps can be downloaded so they won’t use any data which is awesome, but from my understanding it won’t give you the ability to get live traffic updates etc to avoid traffic
Ah okay awesome. Has there been any mention of whether it can provide instructions for traveling by public transit?
Hi, guys - sorry for the delayed response!
Big thanks to @minimalist4life for answering the first question. The Kompakt offers turn-by-turn navigation but won’t provide live traffic updates.
As for public transit navigation, unfortunately, that functionality won’t be available.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Is there ever going to be some sort of tutorial for sideloading apps?I need an app that shows me the bus times in my city.
Jose briones the dumb phone guy will 100 percent make a video on how to do this on you tube, he is a great guy and always makes great videos
Nice, thanks!
@hurron I get your point, I use these kinds of apps myself and appreciate their importance, especially for commuting.
However, as Mudita, we won’t be providing tutorials on bypassing the OS we’ve designed. That said, technically advanced users have the option to sideload APKs to add extra functionality, but they do so at their own risk, as this may impact the warranty.
I understand
Yeah I am glad you guys are not showing how to do this because it stays true to your philosophy, ultimately putting the choice in the consumers hand and even so I like the friction of having to add extra apps. The more I think of it I will probably only side load spotify because I do like listening to podcasts but not a deal breaker for me I may just not sideload anything, I do love the phone as is,
I recently received my kompakt, it has maps but certainly no navigation/direction function. This is a bit disappointing, it may be that they plan to add this feature in a future update? P.s. Navigation does work via “organic maps”, which i have sideloaded.
Unfortunately no navigation/direction function.
Also GPS doesnt work at all, tried for couple days in different places of the city and forests around it.
This is not true for me. GPS works perfectly. Directions will be added soon. In the meantime try to use free f-droid replacement
I dont want any weird apps that i dont know, i just need maps for just in case, when im driving somewhere away from my city i have my work phone with me so i got the maps there and as of now one of Kompakt functions (gps) doesnt work at all. I hope they fix it…
They’re not weird apps. They’re open source apps that are built by community and checked for security by the community.
OSMand
OrganicMaps
Both use OpenStreetMaps data which is the open source maps alternative of Google/Apple Maps.
I have used these apps on other phones and I never had issues.
Ah sorry, you wrote f-droid in the first post and that sounds like a weird name for maps app, now those app names sounds better, just downloaded Organic Maps but it is unable to find my location so GPS still doesnt work.
Sorry about that, can’t test it right now as I’m inside. But I definitely know that Here WeGo Maps work because I tested them.
However this you have to get through AuroraStore. I don’t know if you’re familiar with it.
Basically it sources apps from GooglePlay store, to manage downloading and updates, but you can login in anonymously (no need for an account).
I know it’s frustrating to jump through hoops to get something to work, but being from a country that has “App not available in your country” half of the time, it has normalized this to me.
Edit: I just tested OrganicMaps, you have to wait for it to show “Download maps” or go to Menu (hamburger menu) and download the maps in your city/country. And the GPS will work, because it relies on offline maps. Hope this helps
Yeah i got aurora store installed and have no issue with OrganicMaps functionality, just tested it and i can scroll maps, set up a navigation for a travel and all, just this GPS doesn’t load up at all…
I got Spotify, Messenger and my banking app all work perfectly without hiccups and i dont use any others and so i have no problem with apps not being available.
Read my edited part comment. Because at first it wasn’t loading for me either, but “download the maps” popped up randomly. If it doesn’t for you, go to the menu icon and / download maps and then it should work
Thank you Gezimos!
It worked, i had to go to the window but thats logical since gps doesnt use wifi or other data to find the location like in regular android phones but it found the correct location on the ground floor of a big building with 4 floors on top of me
Weird that Kompakt official map app was not able to find the location at all, instantly had popping up message to turn on the gps in the settings while it was already on…
