Low in call volume noticed in North America version Kompakt

Just wanting to revive this thread.
I am still experiencing low call volume (on speaker as well as not), much quieter than playing media.
Just didn’t want this getting lost in other bug reports.
@urszula Can you make sure this is still on the teams radar.

@jawn Yes, this is on the team’s radar & they suspect that it might be on the network side. What’s your service provider? Verizon or AT&T?

@jawn That’s odd. Can you send a picture with your sound settings?

My settings are the same like yours for Media and Call volume, but today I’ve got a call while on the train and relying on the speaker while holding the phone to my ear I had a really hard time understanding the person on the line even with Call volume at maximum.

I’ve noticed that the Call volume maximizes out at about 75% even though it is set to 100%. When upping the volume above 75% it seems to stay the same.

Maybe you can pass this onto the team since in public space it is really hard to have a conversation like this.

I think it is better when you have a headphone plugged in or connected, but I have to verify this.

@felensis Thank you for the feedback. That’s interesting. I posted a video back in May about what it sound like for me:

Can you tell me if yours was much quieter than this? My volume is at 75% all the time. Otherwise it’s too loud for me.

I think we misunderstood each other here since I don’t mean the loud speaker so that anyone can hear the caller, but the one built in on the top of the phone when you hold it right to your ear. I don’t know the english term for it

Now, that you mention it- I didn’t either & I asked our team
So, on Mudita Kompakt, the part where you hear the caller during a phone call is typically called the earpiece speaker (or simply earpiece).

The term speaker usually refers to the loudspeaker at the bottom or back of the phone, which you’d use for hands-free calls, music, or videos, while earpiece refers specifically to the one used for private listening during calls.

So, now, we both know

Hey Ursula, I just wanted thank you for always keeping on top of everything and passing on the feedback. In your video back in May, it did seem like the loudspeaker on your phone might be louder than mine, and others who are having issues with its loudest setting. I am still hopeful it’s a software issue, as I also agree that media playback (like music) is just fine, and can be quite loud actually. So I’m not sure if it may have to do with network settings, or certain carriers hampering the signal? Either way, if you could please have the team look into if there is a way to boost the loudspeaker performance so it is more comparable to the other media output, that would solve my current holdup from using the Kompakt on a fully regular basis. I do not have the quietest car, but with every other phone I’ve had, I have been able to hear people clearly enough on the loudspeaker while on the highway. Thank you!

This was a reported issue with, I believe, Verizon i the US. But I will definitely pass on this issue to the devs.

I have T-Mobile, and the earpiece sound is also much quiter than the speakerphone sound. On contrast, I can also hear perfectly fine through my bluetooth. So, it seems it’s an isolated issue when the call audio is coming through the earpiece. (even when call volume is at max level).

Has there been any update on this?
I’ve tried several headphone/earphones to plug in as a mic and the caller on the line cannot hear me. Please fix this issue. This is a big problem.
A big reason to purchase this phone was the 3.5mm headphone jack so that I can plug in and take calls with the mic. Thank you!

@doak you seem to have the same problem as @kian and me :

Hello @Urszula, I know that a lot of time has passed since this was brought up, but I have new info. I finally switched providers from AT&T to T-Mobile because of this call volume quality issue on my North American Kompakt. Mind you, I haven’t been using it these last 6 months because it wasn’t possible with the poor call volume, but I recently bit the bullet to switch because I wanted to make it work. The call quality is no better than before. It is still very very quiet. This is still observable from the previous video test I did when I compared the music player speaker volume to the call volume on speaker phone. Having gone through all the trouble of switching service providers, this is really disappointing. I can say with certainty, this is not a provider issue. So now what can I do? I really wanted this to work as intended; a distraction free phone for messages and calls. But if the call volume quality is really so quiet, it won’t work out for me. Have you made any headway in the last 6 months on this? Any new ideas or developments on your end with this issue? Could it be that I got a “bad” device? Can you send me a new device to test?

I had ongoing issues with low call volume. It seems to be software related.
I had improved functionality using fossify phone for calls. I still need to keep volume near maximum, but it is much louder compared to the stock app. With the stock app, I had to keep the volume at max all the time and depending on the callers speaking volume it was sometimes a challenge to hear if there was other noise.
The volume of media playing through the speaker vs phone calls is still quite different.

I also still struggle with the volume on a loudspeaker sometimes or I should say most of the time (Global version).
