Kompakt - Pocket Mode

Hi everyone,

Following scenario: The Fingerprint is activated and I carry the Kompakt in my pocket. When I rest my hands in the pocket and touch the Phones fingerprint reader with parts of my hand (not my finger which unlocks the phone) it will get to the Passcode screen. At this moment you are able to mistouch it and activate it. How can I activate a mode where it doesn’t turn on when it’s fully covered (like in a pocket/case, etc.)?

Until there is a software solution: Always put it in your pocket right side up. This way your thumb will only ever touch the side of the phone with the Offline+ switch and as a bonus: you won’t switch Offline+ mode on by accident while sliding the phone into your pocket. This is all under the assumption that you use your phone primarily with your right hand.

Thank you @david-ger, unfortunately the sensor is active with every touch point of the hand, not just the fingers.

I’m afraid that’s FAD. Just tested on my (not for long) Samsung A54 which has a sensor at the bottom of the screen. Reacts with all hand parts, I bet stylus or anything that triggers the touchscreen would drive it too. This would explain while sometimes I take it out of my back pocket and it asks for the code because of too many failed unlock attempts. My own approach to cope with that is to stop carrying the phone in my pockets. More likely Kompakt will fit my kidney bag.

I agree with this suggestion for a pocket mode. I’d suggest that you need to click a button (the unlock button?) to unlock the phone, rather than just touching it with a fingerprint

I, too, agree with the suggestion for a pocket mode OR the suggestion that one must ‘click’ the power button to activate the fingerprint sensor (just as we must ‘click’ the power button to lock the Kompakt).

I locked my Kompakt a few minutes ago and put it in my pocket. I heard clicking noises while I was walking around – WITHOUT my hand in that pocket. I removed my Kompakt and discovered that it wanted me to enter my PIN.

In other words, my Kompakt (running MuditaOS K 1.1.1) sensed that I wanted to unlock it with the fingerprint sensor even though my hand was outside my pocket!

magic feature?

UPDATE: I have moved my SIM card back to my flip-phone until Mudita resolves this fingerprint-sensor hypersensitivity issue and I receive my silicone case. Yes, I can turn off the Kompakt’s fingerprint sensor, but I appreciate that my flip-phone already has a case and requires only four digits to unlock (vs. six digits with the Kompakt). A fingerprint sensor was a strong reason for me to back the Kompakt last year (Kickstarter backer #42), but the sensor has to work without being hypersensitive. I now have had my Kompakt for <4 days, and I hope that Mudita can resolve this hypersensitivity problem before the end of my 14-day trial.

@kirkmahoneyphd What is the flip phone you are using?

Sunbeam Wireless F1 Orchid – no longer sold, and only functional in USA (and Canada?)

I second that. The fingerprint reader is hypersensitive.
I think Mudita should provide a detailed roadmap of what they are planning to work on, so that everyone can have peace of mind about keeping the phone beyond the 14-days “trial”.

@kirkmahoneyphd & @simonepsp The Fingerprint sensor issue has been reported to the devs. I waiting to hear on what happens moving forward.

Thank you @urszula. Do you think it would be possible for the devs to publicly share a roadmap of future updates?
It think it would increase community engagement as well…
Cheers

edit: I just noticed a post asking the same: Is Mudita’s feature roadmap publicly available?
quite a concidence haha

@simonepsp I posted about this in a separate thread:

A very simple solution is to just not have the fingerprint sensor on when the screen is off.

I am on the latest OS update (1.1.1) and I can tell the fingerprint sensor works as expected, no hypersensitivity, it only unlocks when I want it. No accidental unlocks. Most of the time I even have to push the button, as it doesn’t do anything without(as if it is in some kind of sleep mode and need to wake up)

@thurakanda Thanks for sharing your experience.
@kirkmahoneyphd - did you update the OS?
