Kompakt - Pocket Mode

I’m also on 1.1.1 and the screen still turns on when touching any skin.

Im on the same update and it registers even when im putting the phone down and slide my finger through the button, i have to take the finger off the button when im locking it or it will unlock it again or go to pin screen, i wonder how our experiences are so different…

What if you try to wait few minutes? To me it seems it is very sensitive but after a while it goes to sleep and needs a physical press to becoming active again.
I also compare that to Samsung Galaxy A54 and the sensitivity is really the same (locking out my smartphone with my butt sometimes lol) but I think it’s way easier to unintentionally touch a side button than the bottom of the screen. IMO sensing activation delay on hold should do. Can’t tell if I like the sensor going to sleep or not, can argue both ways.

The fingerprint sensitivity issue is definitely still happening (on my device at least). Any contact with skin causes it to vibrate and show the pin code. I’ve already placed a very long accidental call in my pocket, and opened some settings / random apps. It’s hard not to unlock my phone on the way into my pocket.

It’s the most sensitive fingerprint unlock I’ve used across multiple iphones and android phones that I’ve owned. On the plus side - if they fix this with a software update (requiring a click for example), we’re left with a fingerprint reader that seems pretty effective and accurate when you are wanting it to unlock

Mine doesnt need to be pressed even in the morning after the night, it always unlocks quickly, catching my fingerprint in i believe more than 9/10 times, there were only couple situations where it didnt but still, the sensitivity is extremely high.

Also in most of the phones it does work with proximity sensor so if its in pocket it does not open so i hope it can work the same in Kompakt.

I have Galaxy a34 from work and yeah fingerprint reader on the screen is also so sensitive that once a cable was lying on the phone and it spammed not recognized untill it locked itself and i had to unlock with a pin

Yes, if you mean 1.1.1:

In other words, my Kompakt (running MuditaOS K 1.1.1) sensed that I wanted to unlock it with the fingerprint sensor even though my hand was outside my pocket!

That’s weird, now I think it’s pretty regular on my MK that after like 5 minutes I first have to press the button to activate the sensor. Maybe it’s that weird duraspeed app messing stuff up? Anyway, pressing the button then causes a vibration but it doesn’t check the finger yet, shows a pinpad and you gotta release and put finger on the button again to scan it. That’s how it looks. But I’m not testing it, I’m just leaving the phone alone finally after so many years, now avoiding my tedious job tasks with news outlets omg.

Quick update, I have to press any key to make the sensor wake up. Can be volume up/down.

So i had this issue today. i unlocked it (somehow) whilein my pocket, and it proceeded to call someone, and sms them jibberish.

im not sure if i accidentally unlocked it as i was putting it in my pocket (would make some sense) a your thumb naturally sits on the sensor when you put the phone away. maybe some tweaking is needed to see if accidental unlocks can be reduced.

i think with the eink screen it doesnt need an actual finger to interact with the screen, so even the fabric in your picket can press buttons and keys on an unlocked eink, so its a little more susceptible to accidental clicks if its unlocked

Lol i called 112 today because when putting the phone into my pocket i felt vibration but i though its just another missed fingerprint reader thing but there is big SOS button on the bottom of the screen which have called 112…

Yes, I am bothered by the fact that the Kompakt’s hypersensitive fingerprint-sensor decides to open the “Enter passcode” screen.

The [Emergency] button in the lower-left corner of that screen could easily call while in your pocket whatever your emergency number is – 112 in EU member states, and 911 in much of the Americas, for example.

@kirkmahoneyphd can you remove the emergency button?

I guess that is a nogo cause of law and safety

The [Emergency] button is part of the “Enter passcode” screen, and I do not know how to edit that screen.

Temporary Workarounds to Avoid Fingerprint-Sensor-Based Pocket Dialing

Workaround #1
  • Tap Settings > Security > Manage Fingerprints > Trashcan adjacent to Finger 1.
Workaround #2
  • Put Kompakt in Offline+ mode before inserting it into one’s pocket.
Notes
  • Workaround #1 has the drawback of forcing you to use PIN entry when unlocking the Kompakt, unless you are okay with having no security PIN on your Kompakt.
  • Workaround #2 has the benefit of reducing radiation to your body.
  • Workaround #2 is a solution because the [Emergency] pushbutton on the “Enter passcode” screen can NOT dial your country’s emergency-services shortcode number when the Kompakt is in Offline+ mode. Per Settings > Legal and Regulatory > User Manual in MuditaOS K 1.1.1, “You can’t make emergency calls when using Offline+.” I confirmed this. So, even if the hypersensitive fingerprint-sensor gets triggered to open the “Enter passcode” screen AND the [Emergency] pushbutton on that screen gets triggered AND the Emergency call screen therefore opens AND the dialing disk (the one with a telephone-receiver icon) at the bottom of that screen gets triggered, you will get an alert dialog that says, “You’re using Offline+…,” and therefore the emergency call will NOT occur.

I am not a fan of Workaround #1, so I plan to use Workaround #2, but Workaround #2 will still mean that the Kompakt can make clicking sounds (if I have System > Sound > Advanced > Touch sounds and System > Sound > Advanced > Dial pad tones enabled).

This is definitely concerning. IMHO, the passcode screen with the emergency button should only pop up if the power button is actually pressed…

I think I’m gonna capture all my concerns and e-mail support to make sure things are not lost track of. Or is it enough that we discuss here, @urszula?

@kirkmahoneyphd Have you tried deleting the fingerprint and then adding it again.

I have to admit, I’m trying to recreate your problem, but I just can’t.

@urszula: Before you posted this, I noticed that the original hypersensitivity in a pocket (same clothes) had decreased over subsequent days. I just tried deleting Finger 1 and re-adding it, and the sensor definitely is not giving me the hypersensitivity that I originally reported.

I hope that I can test this some more after I get my case (was omitted accidentally from original shipment, but is now on its way to me, per Szymon). I hope, too, that the case somewhat ‘insulates’ the sensor from false triggers.

Still, it might be helpful for the developers to consider at some point (No rush now, in my opinion!) the suggestions that others have made for how to ensure that the sensor cannot be triggered accidentally to open the “Enter passcode” screen.-- which is risky when a Kompakt is in Connected mode.
