My Kompakt has also been blocked, which was purchased only around October. I am with iiNet/TPG on the Vodafone network. If the issue is not resolved, will Australians be able to return their Kompakt for a refund? When purchased, there was no indication that it would not work with certain carriers in Australia. Will switching networks be a long-term solution?
I’m sorry to hear this,
I have OPTUS & mine still works fine. However, I will ask the team what could be done in this case.
It would be appreciated if we could get some clarity or closure on this matter. It has been nearly two months since this issue was first raised, and we still haven’t received an official response from Mudita.
The concern itself is quite simple: the Kompakt does not support long-range Band 28, which is required in Australia to ensure emergency call coverage in remote areas. All major Australian mobile networks are now structured around 4G/5G Band 28 for broad coverage and emergency call capability after the 3G sunset.
The emergency test calls mentioned in this thread don’t really address the core issue. Yes, the device works in the vast majority of situations, but Australian providers require phones to offer the widest possible coverage specifically for emergency use. This is about rare but critical scenarios where another phone might be able to make an emergency call, but the Kompakt cannot.
Given this, the key question is whether Mudita was aware of this limitation before beginning sales in Australia. Some form of acknowledgment or official response would be very helpful, especially as other providers may, and likely will, adopt similar requirements in the future.
I’ve pinged the team about this. We really appreciate your patience while we look into solutions for this issue.
