Does not let you see a list of the participants in a group
Does not let you name a group
Does not let you add someone else to an existing group-message thread
This means:
You cannot compose and send a single text message to a group of people.
You cannot see who is receiving text messages sent to a group.
You cannot name a group for later, handy use.
You cannot expand a group.
All that you can do is receive text messages to a group and respond to such messages. You are at the mercy of someone else to initiate group conversations. You cannot see the names of all the other people who are in a group conversation. You cannot expand the group conversation to include anyone else. Anyone who lives in the USA and therefore is accustomed to unlimited group texting will be frustrated with these deficiencies.
Okay but thank you so much for answering my question! I understand this doesnāt work for you, but personally, group messaging is something I simply am subjected to, I donāt like it, I barely even respond, but I need to be able to read the messages the group sends me. So I am glad I will be able to use the Kompakt, whenever I actually get it⦠in June? Watch the update happens before I even get the phone and all of this mental energy was a waste
Kirk, can you confirm that the responses that you send go to all members of the group and not just to the last person to send a text?
Iām in a few ongoing group sms chats. I donāt care about starting new ones (though I agree with you that this is an important non-negotiable area for most in the US that Mudita needs to address soon) as long as I can know that responses are going out to everyone in the group chat as normal.
Hi again! I double-checked with the Team and am happy to share that Group messaging is among fixes and enhancements that are currently in development to be released in the upcoming software updates.
Weāre not ready to commit to a specific deadline yet, but weāre aware of how important this feature is for many of youāwhich makes it important for us, too. Regardless of how mobile communications work in Poland, although itās always interesting to see the differences!
@aleksander: Can you please confirm that these bugs are on the teamās to-fix list?
As I posted later in that thread, I had to move my SIM card back to my F1 Orchid. The bugs are intolerable. Related to Bug #1 in that thread, I am glad that I moved my SIM card before this morning, when I got several nice photos from Bug #1ās friend āAā sharing them via group text messages. If I had not moved the SIM card, then I would have gotten none of those photos.
Feature-wise (not truly a bug), because the SMS appās unread-messages ātally dotā can go no higher than (9+) and already was at (9+), I would not have known how many additional group text messages I had missed, had I left my SIM card in my Kompakt.
Hi. I passed these over to the team.
Thank you for finding them. Do I understand correctly that these will be solved automatically once the group messaging feature is introduced?
I do not assume that these will be solved automatically. But, I see from the latest post on that thread that you have shared these three bugs with the team. You should ask the team to ensure that they have killed these bugs. Thank you.
But, indeed, there in the Kickstarter campaignās āFeaturesā section ā dating back to October of 2024, if not earlier ā is Muditaās claim that the Kompakt would support MMS, which enables the āgroupā way to send group messages (vs. sending the same but individual message to each recipient, which is possible with SMS).
So, please understand that many of us who were expecting the Kompakt to support group messaging fully upon initial delivery are more than a little bit dismayed by the absence of this support to this day.
Mudita should not have treated MMS as an afterthought ā as something to be worked out later in MuditaOS K ā given that Mudita promised MMS support as far back as the Kickstarter campaign.
I cancelled my Mudita Pure order three years ago after learning that the Pure would never support MMS, as I am a regular user of group texting ā receiving AND sending.
When I became Kickstarter backer #42 of the Kompakt last October in the first minute or so after the campaign opened, I believed what Mudita said about MMS in the āFeaturesā section ā that my Kompakt would arrive with fully functional MMS.
I am willing to wait for Mudita to enable MMS fully in the Kompakt ⦠but not forever.
If Mudita cannot fully enable MMS within the coming few weeks, then I hope that Mudita will honor my request for a full refund, even though I am today already well past the 14-day-return policy.
@kirkmahoneyphd All I can say is that group messaging is currently in development. We are not able to commit to a specific date for this feature at this time.
I understand your disappointment, and I also understand how hard and dedicated is the work of teams behind Kompakt. They delivered a product ready for launch and now work tirelessly to improve it, including the introduction of group messaging, as I mentioned in this message and several before it.
If, unfortunately, you decide to return Kompakt and request a refund, please contact Supportāthey will evaluate the case and make the decision.
Iād like to add just one more thing: the fact that weāre not disclosing a date or a timeline for any specific featureās implementation does not mean that itās not a high priority for us. It means that we want to be as certain as possible before making such promises, because we value your time and trust.
@aleksander, thank you for your prompt response. Put simply,
Group messaging is a basic feature of MMS.
Mudita advertised MMS as a feature of the Kompakt.
But, Mudita delivered Kompakt with crippled, buggy MMS.
So, Mudita delivered a product that was not ready for launch.
Given that Mudita cannot even hint as to when MMS will be fully functional, I will ask Mudita Support for a refund.
MAJOR UPDATE: After experimentation with the sideloaded Quik app (Hat tip to @gezimos for suggesting it!), I have decided that it sufficiently replaces the missing MMS features in Kompaktās buggy SMS app. And, I have decided to take a chance on Mudita making the SMS app fully functional ā both bugs-wise and missing-MMS-features-wise ā eventually ⦠and hopefully in the release after the July release! So, I am keeping my Kompakt and have asked Mudita Support to close my refund-request ticket. (Now I must train myself NOT to tap the SMS appās icon on the home screen.)
Iāll qualify that I respect your decision and hope you get a quick refund should you decide to return the MK.
For context I will add that group messaging is not a basic feature of MMS in Europe (in fact, Iād never even heard of MMS group messaging until you mentioned it, despite having a mobile phone since 1998!).
So, even though you had never heard of it, believe me, group messaging is a telephonic staple to this day in the USA ā one of Muditaās target markets for the Kompakt.
In spite of this, Mudita launched the Kompakt with incomplete SMS/MMS functionality.
I donāt disagree that the US appears to be a target, so it would from a US-perspective have been helpful to clarify which features would be available. I just wanted to qualify what a European company might have meant by āMMSā.
Yes, I tried one of those, but it was not ideal. Plus, I found that I kept tapping ā out of habit ā the SMS appās icon on the home screen, which then triggered an alert that I had to close (because the SMS app was therefore disabled) and then required two more taps to access that sideloaded app.
@Jose_Briones, is there a sideloadable launcher that will let me see the 3rd-party messaging app INSTEAD OF the Kompaktās SMS app?
