Group messaging on Kompakt

Hi everyone I thought I read somewhere there is no group messaging. Is that feature planned? I believe the LP3 has it. Just wondering!

@minimalist4life Yes, group messaging will be available (it will be in an update after the launch). You can see in this picture more or less how it will look. [20250402_225918] When you send pix via text, it shows up as a black & white picture, but you can save it on your Kompakt & then you can manage the images in Mudita Center. I will make some screen shots tomorrow & show you how it all will look.

@ethan22 Not yet. But don’t worry, it’s gonna happen. Like I mentioned previously, we’re going to share our plans with the community as to when to expect what, but first we want to make sure the North American launch happed and we gather feedback from all the North American version user. That will give our team a more clearer picture as to what to prioritize. Hopefully this helps.

On the topic of messaging, I noticed that the app doesn’t have clickable links. Would it be possible to implement that in a future update ? It could be useful for confirmation codes or regarding banking sometimes.

@starvin_fish I don’t think so. It’s intentional. Mudita Kompakt does not have a BROWSER, so if there is no BROWSER, how would those links OPEN?

@anon36556420, like I mentioned above: WebView is not a full browser. It’s a tool that apps can use to show limited web content inside the app itself. If there is no dedicated browser installed, and no system-level handling for general links, WebView alone cannot just “open links” from anywhere like SMS messages. In a traditional smartphone SMS app, when you tap a link, the system usually needs to hand off the link to a browser app because that’s the job of a full browser. Kompakt’s SMS app …

I honestly didn’t realize that the Kompakt doesn’t support group messages. I’m due to receive my NA version phone here pretty soon. I want to stick it out, but group messages are so important to my friend and family communications! I wonder if it will be a number of week or months that it takes for the update… will I still receive communication from my group text threads at all??

I completely agree; I can’t use my phone until this update is added. It’s rendered completely useless because it doesn’t have group messaging. Massive miss, pretty shocking that isn’t one of the key features they would think to include in the original product.

Not sure, haven’t tried it cause either way I can’t use it, I need full functionality. So I haven’t switched my SIM yet to try anything yet.

Although I remain hopeful that Mudita will soon eliminate these deficiencies, the SMS app today lacks these BASICS:

1. No ability to start a message to a group
2. No ability to see a list of participants in a group message

USA-based cellular carriers typically include unlimited texting on almost all plans, and this includes both SMS and MMS.

I live in the USA and received the Global-optimized Kompakt 14 days ago. Deficiencies #1 and #2 were obvious right away, given that we use group messaging here daily.

I suspect that most other USA-based Kompakt customers ordered, unlike me, the North America-optimized version, so I am like the canary in the coal mine with respect to group messaging.

Mudita should anticipate a firestorm of complaints from USA-based customers who receive the North America-optimized Kompakt, if Mudita has not addressed #1 and #2 by the time that they receive their Kompakt cellphones.

My Approach

I have kept my Kompakt for three days past its 14-day return window, as I am trusting Mudita to fix these problems soon. Someone foolishly posted that I should not expect anything more than SMS, given that Mudita is a Polish company. But, I believe that Mudita understands that group messaging is crucial to its USA-based market.

Meanwhile, if I must start a group message, then I move my SIM to my other minimalist cellphone – a Sunbeam Wireless F1 Orchid. Still, that is not practical in the long run, as I do not want to carry my Orchid with me wherever I carry my Kompakt.

Hi, I am confused, is it just that you can’t start a group? If someone adds you to one will you receive the messages? or is it that it doesn’t work at all?
