Group Chats-SEVERAL Issues

Hi everyone!

In my friend group, three of us use Kompakts, and one uses a Light Phone II. We’ve tried creating group chats, and they’ll work fine for one day but then there is ALWAYS an issue

• For one Mudita friend, messages in the group chat always appeared as “loading” boxes (like the placeholders for images on the Kompakt) and never loaded, so we had to stop using that group.
• I (a Kompakt user) stopped receiving any group chat messages altogether in a chat with an iPhone and a Light Phone II after just one day.

Yesterday, I set up a new group chat with myself, two Mudita-using friends, and our Light Phone friend, and it seemed to work fine. But this morning, one Mudita friend reported that when she sends a message in the group chat, it ends up being sent to each of us individually rather than the group.

Has anyone else experienced this? Were you able to fix it?

When she sends a message in the group chat, it ends up being sent to each of us individually rather than the group.

This is the default setting for group messaging on the Kompakt (which is pretty silly if you ask me). It can be changed by opening the Mudita SMS app, opening the settings within that app, selecting your active SIM, tapping on Group Messaging, then selecting Single MMS group chat.

Thank you so much! We were able to fix this issue but unfortunately no others . Hopefully the update will bring improved group messaging

Yes, I have seen you respond to people with the same helpful tips, thank you! Unfortunately though, when I go to the SIM settings I do not see at all what you are seeing…there is no SIM 1 Play for me or any of my friend’s phones?

If I am correct, “Play” simply refers to the name of @urszula’s cellular carrier, and “SIM 1” refers to the SIM card she is using. For instance, on my Kompakt, it reads “SIM 2 - AT&T.”

Additionally, I believe @urszula’s first image is of the SIM settings found within the Mudita SMS application, while her second image is of the mobile network settings found within the Mudita Settings application (Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile Network). But the options available in these two locations do seem to vary depending on one’s cellular carrier—and it is a bit confusing that these related settings are located in separate applications rather than being found together.

Have you already gone through the separate processes of deregistering your phone number from both iMessage servers and RCS servers?

If so, then in a different thread on these forums, a user reported the following issue with group messages despite having done both of those things:

I do have one group text thread that predates my Kompakt where I can’t receive ANY messages to my Kompakt. This group is a mix of iPhone and Android users. I disabled iMessage on my iPhone prior to switching to the Kompakt, and I’ve verified my phone number on the Google form to turn off RCS. However, if the other participants message the group, I never receive the messages. I even tried starting a new group from my Kompakt, where they received my messages but no replies came to me. One of them also tried to remove me from the group text thread on their phone and then re-add me, but that didn’t help.

Everyone else (not just you) needs to completely delete their existing group text threads with you in them. Then you need to start a new group text yourself.

I had the same problem when I first switched to the Kompakt. The issue seems to be that both Android and iOS handle group threads in such a manner that they default to RCS if a person ever used RCS in that group at all once upon a time. So even if you remove your phone number from RCS servers and then you start a new group thread on your phone, your friends’ phones will still default to your number being treated as if it is on RCS servers, because that information is “burned” into each group thread. This is why all of your friends must completely delete their old group threads that include you.

It’s a major hassle. It’s honestly the biggest hurdle to changing from a modern smart phone to the Mudita Kompakt, in my opinion. The iPhone-to-Android switch is nowhere near as painful as the iPhone-or-Android-to-Mudita switch. The problem is that both iPhone and Android use RCS these days. Turning off iMessage isn’t difficult at all in comparison to ditching RCS. If there were a way for the Kompakt to work with RCS, sooooooo many everyday problems would go away.

SIM 1 Play

That’s MY network provider here in Poland. Yours will be different. It will be SIM 1 XXX (Verizon, T-Mobile, Vodaphone etc)

this is what my Kompakt with my Australian SIM card shows since it’s the OPTUS network.
