Folders for music on Mudita Kompakt

Hi,
glad that the first devices are on their way. As I am a pretty early backer I hope to have it in my hands soon. My question would be about the fact that the preview units that were send out to YouTubers did not have any folder structure for music. Is this true for the final product? I am converting cds to mp3s for a few music cds I still have. Having all my music in one giant list sounds not convenient to me
Also what bitrate, codexs will be supported by the kompakt?

Yeah they need to make a revamp to their music ASAP in a update, I also don’t like the idea of a massive list of music with no organization, not sure how long this will take them, using the light phone as an example that phone LP2 came out in 2019 and they still have never updated their music app to be able to organize music

I really hope they at least allow us to sort by artist & album in an update. I’d imagine it shouldn’t be overly complicated since every file already has the metadata baked in.

I recently learned they’re planning to implement an adjustable refresh rate for the eink display. There were some other planned updates too; I’d love to see that all compiled into some active list / blog.

Yes, this is a must! It was one of the reasons, but not THE reason I didn’t pre order the light phone. I’m about to pull the trigger on the Kompact, but really hoping they at least give us an indication they will work on that. Not sure what the issue is as it seems to be old tech ? I was organizing / sorting on my b&w iPod shuffle 22 years ago!

Yeah even with the Pure which has been out a long time, had the framework of playlists literally right on the device you could see playlists etc, but they never developed the software properly, really hope we are not waiting a year for a proper music player

I created a forum account just to add my voice to this. Please, please, please allow us to use folders and playlists. Thank you!

I can only agree with that. The music player should support a folder structure, just like any old MP3 player does. I don’t think that should be a problem either. There are enough open source music players on Github, fdroid etc… that could be further developed or modified or the corresponding lines of code could be looked at.

You will be able to upload audio files to Mudita Kompakt via Mudita Center. You can also upload them by just connecting Kompakt to a computer & dropping them in the external storage, when it pops up on your PC. I don’t know how that works on Apple to be honest. Also- what I’ve done is sent MP3 (like long-form articles that I wanted to listed to on the plane) to myself via WhatsApp (Web version to phone). Somehow, Kompakt knows to put it in the audio folder LOL

I think we’re asking specifically about the ability to organize the music we put on the phone / sd card. A lot of us will have large libraries and the music application on the Mudita is currently lacking the ability to organize / sort. If we could just get confirmation that this is a future enhancement I’m sure a lot of us would go ahead and order

It’s not about how the music gets onto the Kompact, but about how the music player organises and displays the music. So far it seems that each song is simply displayed in a list one below the other. With many albums and different artists, this is extremely confusing. Other music players for Android either show a folder structure (you simply copy the music organised in folders onto the phone) or sort by band, album etc…

And as I said, there are many opensource players where Mudita can find inspiration.

Here are a few suggestions:

Hi @urszula you have just answered a question I have posted on another thread so ignore that one, haha! I hope the option arrives to manage music soon, I have downloaded some music to the Kompakt via external storage however cannot sort into folders etc.

Has anyone tried to sideload something like Gramophone? I’ve used that on GrapheneOS and can work with that one

have just installed Gramophone and works like a charm! Thanks @marko :raised_hands:t3:

I agree that the default music app is quite useless as of today. I sideloaded Phocid and it works great, but a proper “native” music app would be great to have in the future!

Can you ask the team specifically if they have it in their roadmap to add some sort of organization to the native music app ?

@tecnopope Our team is working on updating the Music Player- It will be included in a future update. In the meantime, you can organize your Music in the Music Folder.

Thank you so much for confirming that! So, if I create a folder in the music directory it will only be reflected in explorer today, correct?

@tecnopope The Music Folder should already be there.

Hello Urszula,

I refer again to my post above, because I think you misunderstand what we are talking about here. It is not about the fact that you cannot copy the music in folders into the music folder of the Kompakt. It’s about the fact that the music player on the Kompakt doesn’t show folders like albums or artists, but all the songs that are copied to the Kompakt in a very long list. I don’t know of any other music player that does this. Otherwise you always have the option of accessing the folder structure of the music store or sorting everything by artist or album.

And it would be really great if the music player was revised so that we could find our favourite albums and songs without having to scroll through a list of 100 or 1000 songs
