Endless annoying spam

I just turned on my Kompakt, only to receive yet another spam SMS. This happens almost on a daily basis and is one of the reasons why using this device “mindfully” isn’t possible. Over the past few months, I have received SMS and attempted calls from Germany, Austria, France, England and the Czech Republic. Everytime I receive such a spam message, I switch off the Kompakt immediately because it’s extremely annoying. Yet I’m being told that fixing the spam blocker isn’t planned for anytime soon, although I’ve been reporting this issue for months.

So here is my question: if I remove the Mudita SMS app completely (via ADB) and don’t install any other SMS app, will I still receive notifications in one way or another (on screen, sound, or vibration) ? The same question goes for the Mudita phone app.

But then it raises a new question: is a “phone” without a phone app and an SMS app still a phone ?

Since Mudita doesn’t care to fix this problem, what other options do I have ?

Maybe it has something to do with your mobile provider?

I am not trying to defend Mudita, but I just want to point out that for the last year or so I have never received any spam SMS.

It might also depend on what websites they gave their phone numbers out to what purpose. Or if their number was part of breeches.

I don’t get any spam calles and text, though very conscious about where and why I share my number.

No. I have been using the same provider in another phone and got zero spam there.

Neither nor. It’s a brand new SIM card which I got when I got the Kompakt. As soon as I put it into the phone, the spam started, and it doesn’t end. I didn’t give out my number to anyone, neither online nor offline. It’s also very suspicious that I keep getting spam from several different countries, almost as if I was being targeted.

Anyway, let’s not distract from the non-working spam blocker.

  1. Calls still get through
  2. SMS can’t be blocked at all.

This is not acceptable. Any 30 Euro dumbphone can block spam, but at Mudita I get: “We can’t do everything at once”, when spam blocking should have worked right out of the box.

Is your number new? It’s possible it was previously owned by someone else and compromised in a leak. You might want to contact your carrier to request a replacement number.

Like I said, it’s a new SIM card. I picked this specific number because I liked it, so I don’t want to replace it. But whatever the reason for the spam is, please stop distracting from the fact that spam blocking isn’t working on the Kompakt! Hence it should have been fixed long ago. How much longer will it take ??

Fair enough, if it’s a vanity number then keeping it makes sense. I was simply brainstorming potential causes to be helpful, not to ‘distract’ from the software issue. Since we’re all just users here waiting for a Kompakt update, let’s hope the devs address the filter soon. Best of luck with the spam.

Hey, I wasn’t accusing you  I just meant to say that here in this thread, distractions should be avoided, to point Mudita to this issue, since I’ve done that several times and yet it has been ignored so far. And then when someone says Mudita doesn’t care about security or privacy, it is being denied

I just cope with it. Had not much spam in the last years but this year 5 calls from some “someone took a loan on your name” scammers. Some campaign, my number somewhere, anti-spam filters would not work because at times they spoof legit companies’ numbers.

If I start getting more spam, I’ll think of either going away from my 20yo phone number or going strict mode - deny ALL unknown contacts, and whoever wants to be able to call me - give me your number or whatsapp/signal me first.

Or, hopefully those anti-spam services will start working. I had something on my Samsung but at best it was showing a possible spam warning when ringing - and it was wrong two times.

I rarely had any spam until I got the Kompakt, now I have it every 2-3 days or in the worst case every day.

That’s what I’ve done already, and yet the spam won’t stop.

I mean how hard can it be to compare incoming numbers to the ones on the contact list ? Almost every dumbphone can do that.

Hi ! I’d like to suggest the team to optionally apply the whitelist to the SMS.

I use the whitelist to filter calls but can still get the audio messages to see who was trying to reach me, and also get SMS from various professionals not belonging to my contacts. (in my case I only have spam calls but no spam SMS)

Another useful option would be to consider the whitelist contains numbers from the address book plus all outgoing calls (history).

And another important thing would be to optionally keep the history of blocked calls.

Huh? Do you mean that built-in ~“block unrecognized numbers” does not block numbers out of the contacts list?

Ok, that’s definitely a bug.

@YYZ I’ve pinged the team about this again, and I completely understand how frustrating this is. Spam calls can drive anyone up the wall.
I would also like to ask other users what their experience is with this issue.

Yes, exactly that. It has been like that from day 1. I have reported it several times to support and here on the forum, but nothing has been done about it. And SMS can’t be blocked at all. So I keep getting messages and calls ONLY from numbers that are NOT on my list.

Sad enough that you have to do that, when blocking should have worked out of the box.

This is what they are trying to figure out. We did some testing in the office with a few colleagues and we were not able to recreate your problem when it comes to CALLS.
Yes, the SMS spam blocker is something that they are looking into- because as we previously discussed the current settings in Mudita Kompakt are intended to BLOCK calls ONLY, not text/SMS messages.

A bunch of use with Kompakts tested these call-blocking features & they work like intended. So, they are trying to figure out where the issue is coming from. Who’s your cell provider?

I provided this and other info via email long ago, but never got a reply. It seems we’re stuck inside a loop

I will ask them about this. Did they ask you to send logs? That would help.

Why not ask for my fingerprint as well ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Please check these threads. You can’t say I’m the only one having this problem.

So the first thread is from June 2025. Now we have April 2026.
