SMS Spam Filtering

I just got the Kompakt last week after preordering in February. I’ve been so excited for this phone, and so far I love it except for one huge problem that is making me consider returning it: I get somewhere around 20 political spam texts a day.

On my previous android phone using Google Messages, this wasn’t a problem because they were automatically filtered into spam with no notification. On this phone, each one makes my phone buzz unnecessarily, and each page of my sms messages is filled with 9 spam texts and 1 real text.

I’ve been desperately trying to find a solution-- signed up for a T-Mobile spam filtering service (it hasn’t made a difference), sideloaded google messages (but spam filtering doesn’t work without google play services), and downloaded SpamBlocker from F-droid, but that doesn’t seem to work either. I’m now considering adding Microg to my phone so that I can use Google Messages, but I would vastly prefer an update to the stock sms messenger with some spam filtering tools, maybe even some RegEx options to make some filter rules myself.

Can anyone tell me if this kind of feature is coming?
Has anyone found a temporary solution?

Surely I’m not the only one having this problem.
Thanks

No, you are not the only one having this problem! I asked 26 days ago for the ability to block text messages from senders who are not on my Kompakt’s contacts list (which would enable blocking of political spam, etc.)

Unfortunately (Maybe I missed it!), I never saw later in that thread any commitment from Mudita to enable the ability to block text messages from unknown senders.

@urszula, could you please share this request with the development team? Thanks!

Thanks for the response, and I did see your question/thread before I posted :). Hoping for a somewhat more robust solution that would allow texts such as verification codes, but something simple like [block texts from numbers not in contacts] would be a start. If I were able to make a rule like [block texts that have phrase x in them] that would be even better (almost all of my texts end with certain phrases like “stop=end”).

My Sunbeam Wireless flip-phone lets me block text messages from numbers not in its contacts list. I have learned to disable this blocking the first time that I expect to get a verification code from a given organization (e.g., Amazon), to add that telephone number (often a 5- or 6-digit shortcode number) as a contact (e.g., Amazon Verifications), and then to re-enable blocking.

@kirkmahoneyphd I’ve passed this on previously & I just pinged the team again. I’ll let you know what they say on the topic. Seems like a simple enough feature- but you know I’m not super techy.
