Digital Minimalism- What are your current devices?

Hi all,
So, I know digital minimalism can be interpreted as having a handful of digital items that serve you well for your day-to-day. So, if your goal is to have less, feel free to share. However, beyond that definition, I wanted to ask all of you, what device(s) do you use for each appropriate category?

I was inspired by a few topics that have been created exploring the creepy aspects of current smartphones and technology in the market and it made me want to start a discussion about current devices we are using and what we want to be replacing. What are you using right now?

It’s okay if you don’t have a device for every category or if you have a device that doesn’t belong in one, just share your personal collection. You can also include possible future purchases that you’ve been eyeing.

This would also be a good way to discuss alternatives and suggest products that are not related to these well-known conglomerates: Apple, Amazon, Meta, etc.

I’ll start:

Phone: dumbed down iPhone 8, switching to Light Phone 3 soon

Clock: Mudita’s Harmony 2

Tablet/laptop: IPad 12.9" for time being, would love an e-ink option for the future

Desktop Computer: N/A, hopefully DASUNG in the future or another e-ink display

Watch: I was looking into the Garmin Lily 2 Active. I’m waiting to see if another model comes in the future for the Lily line.

Music player/DAP: TBD; still researching. Something Android-based.

E-reader: N/A, maybe pocketbook verse pro? Wrote it down.

Camera(s): N/A

Headphones: Sony wh-1000xm5

Earphones: Technically AirPods Pro, but I lost one, looking for replacement earphones, non-Apple.

Speaker/Bluetooth Speaker: JBL Flip 5

(Edit: I added in a few items only because they require charging, but I don’t necessarily use every day. Also a few more ā€œcategoriesā€ I thought of and wanted to include.)

I’m making a big part of the jump with the Kompakt but i already have digital camera to replace the photo app on my iPhone 7 and there is nothing on my laptop that relates to google since i use linux with a fork of Firefox (since they annonced that they would be using user info a few days ago)

Love that! Eventually, I want to get a DAP for all my music. Then, I can finally quit my Spotify subscription. I forgot to include in my original post that I own Bose headphones. Need new earphones. I’ve been looking through the DAP subreddit and doing my own research before making purchases. I hope one day I can get a dedicated camera, maybe a nice point-and-shoot and/or Polaroid-type.

  • Phone: iPhone 11 Pro Max only with the essential apps and no clutter.
  • Laptop: MacBook Air M1 only with the essential apps to work (basically the Apple apps and four more productivity apps)
  • Watch: Casio gba 800
  • Clock: Mudita Harmony 1
  • Other Gadgets: None.

Note 1: I’m currently testing Linux, and I feel that it is a significant change to my work and will take more time than I thought. Meanwhile, I’ve worked in all the privacy settings on both devices (which are actually pretty good if they really follow them) and installed AdGuard on Safari. Unfortunately, I don’t trust Firefox anymore.

Note 2: I see the digital minimalist as focusing on owning only the essential devices needed for our work and ā€œno working aroundā€ daily needs, prioritizing privacy and simplicity while avoiding the clutter and distractions of unnecessary or addictive apps and games. That’s why my only active subscription is for iCloud Drive, and I have a strict internet daily time limit.

This is fun

Phone: Pixel 9 Pro with GrapheneOS but using Mudita Pure and Punkt MP02 interchangeably as my daily devices. Next month I will switch to using Mudita Kompakt and LP3 interchangeably as my daily device. I hope to eliminate the Pixel if I can get away without using a smartphone for travel etc.

Clock: Mudita Harmony 2

Tablet/laptop: N/A

Desktop Computer: Outgoing Dell XPS. Will probably switch to Star Labs Linux desktop in the summer when Windows 11 expires.

Watch: Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 for activities and a few G-Shocks, Helm, Omega and IWC when I want to ā€˜let-go’ of the algorithms.

Camera: Fujifilm X100V

Radio: Ruark R1S and Ruark R2S for internet radio, DAB+ and podcasts.

Linux Mint is great it comes with the LibreOffice apps that basically are office360. The new tos update of Firefox sucks id recommend switching to one of its forks since they don’t apply the tos like the one is am using WaterFox and it seems fine.

I’ve read about Librewolf as a suitable replacement for Firefox, but it seems they lack a Linux app (they only have to Debian, if I’m not mistaken). Regarding LibreOffice, I like it. The issue I need to analyze is that my books are all formatted on Pages (Apple), and it will be a lot of work, considering there are images, and the first one has 400 pages.

I Found Librewolf on the ā€œlinux app installerā€ (i don’t know the english name)

I do my best to stick with e-ink! Might switch the GO to Supernote Manta! I’ve been using LP3 for about 2 years. If I weren’t in school, I would switch out the laptop for a desktop instead. I have cold turkey installed to block all social media for the entire 2 years of my schooling!

  • Cellphone: LP3 switching to Kompakt
  • Laptop: MacBook Pro
  • Tablet: Onyx Boox Go 10.3
  • Other: Kobo Clara BW

That’s it!

I’m guessing you mean LP2?

I guess I will join in here
Laptop: Lenovo Thinkbook Plus gen 4
Phone: Bigme Hibreak Pro, Minimal Phone, Light Phone 2
Tablet: Viwoods Aipaper
Watch: Sqfmi Watchy
Clock: Harmony 2
Monitor: Dasung 13.3 HD-F (white version)

These all are using Eink - I might pickup another dasung monitor but the 25in, non revo version. I had a revo version in the past and felt odd scrolling. The lenovo laptop I recently acquired and I gotta say its the best eink device I have ever tried(once I optimized windows 11 for eink). I am super excited to get my Mudita Kompakt, I plan to sell all of my other eink phones once I find the perfect one for me which im hoping is the kompakt!

No problem at all! :sunglasses:
