Thanks for your replies : the default behaviours actually make sense !
Another day, another question ![]()
I have just noticed that, although my Kompakt displays “LTE” on the status bar (with max reception quality), as soon as I call someone, “3G” is displayed during the conversation (with, indeed, a “standard” call quality).
What could be wrong ? Now that I realized they’ll dismantle 3G antennas at the end of the year, I am slightly worried ![]()
I checked the APN settings which seem to be OK. (and all the relevant settings, VolTE etc. are enabled)
Edit : I am well aware all my recent questions may turn out to be moot with the new upcoming firmware ![]()
PS : I don’t know if that’s important to know, but I live in France and my provider is Orange.
@bidinou What you’re seeing is actually quite common and usually comes down to how voice calls are handled on the network. Even though your phone shows LTE (4G) with full signal, the call may still be routed through 3G depending on the carrier and phone configuration.
Do you have VoLTE enable on your phone?
To put is simply, LTE was originally designed only for data, not voice. To make voice calls over LTE, carriers use a technology called VoLTE (Voice over LTE). So, you need to enable VoLTE for this to work. If VoLTE is not enabled or not supported, the network performs something called Circuit-Switched Fallback (CSFB):
Hi ! Thanks for your reply ! Yep, I understand that. VoLTE is definitely both enabled on the phone and supported by the network…
I think VoLTE worked with my Nokia/HMD dumbphone… Hmm… How can I diagnose this ?
Edit : I heard this could potentially be disabled by the provider, depending on the phone model etc. ?
Apparently, my provider, Orange (the most important in France) is very restrictive regarding VoLTE compatiblity.
Cf. Appel et SMS Wi-Fi - Réseaux Orange ← list of compatible phones.
I have no idea what can be done. Maybe the deal has to be made directly between Mudita and Orange ?
Otherwise it means my phone will stop working in 9 months. I don’t really want to switch to other ISPs because I don’t want to support the other ones for ethical reasons ![]()
@bidinou I will ask the team about this and get back to you.
Hi ! I don’t really know how to play chess, but I am pretty sure the move the computer made on the 3rd picture is not legal. Is it ?
Today, two questions actually ![]()
I have noticed that, sometimes, when I send a MMS (to a single person) with an attached picture, taken on the Kompakt, it takes minutes to be displayed.
My wife has a very standard Samsung phone with up to date Android. Most of the time, she gets my messages almost instantly, but it occurred sevral times that she got a notification, and in the corresponding conversation she would see a loading animation for a long period of time – several long minutes.
It never happens when other people send her SMSs, although, most are in RCS mode.
Considering the Kompakt says the message was sent, is the issue on the provider / operator side (not sure of the right English word) ?
(the more I send questions the more I wonder if they are still relevant considering the upcoming firmware update ![]()
I don’t play chess either…so I would have to ask some one that does…
I this RCS might have something to do with it, but I will confirm with the team.
Hello! I have been in love with my Mudita Kompakt for the first month, but I’ve had a strange problem emerge. Whenever the phone is on, the power button becomes extremely hot (it will burn your hand!) and will not cease until it’s powered off. I can’t use it now! I’ve searched around a little and this seems like an isolated problem from what I can tell. Any help is appreciated!
Thank You,
Matt
It’s not a well known thing, I learned about it just a year ago:
Ah ! Thank you !!
@mallen5012 Welcome to the Mudita Forum. We’re glad that you’re here. I’ve asked our team about this & I wondering if you sideloaded any apps that may be running super aggressively in the background.
Hello, Urszula. Thanks for the quick reply!
Good question – I have sideloaded the following apps: Aurora Store, Gboard & inkOS. They have been on the phone since day one, which was about a month ago. The issue started yesterday (3/12).
I want to add that the button is extremely hot before the phone is fully booted. I would imagine if app performance would be the issue, it would be a gradual build heat. This is super hot in about 30 seconds. (Hard to turn off at that point as you have to hold the button)
Lastly, I have a ticket in with Mudita support (through dumbwireless) already so no need to duplicate on that end.
Thanks!
is it correlated with a reduced battery life ?
Hello. I’m not sure if there is a correlation. I haven’t left it on for more than a minute or two since it’s started this issue. It gets hot enough, quick enough that I’m afraid to leave it on longer than that.
Thanks for this info- Our team is looking into it & it might be a warranty replacement- but I’m waiting for the final word.
Ok, sounds good. Thank you!
Hi! I emailed the Mudita support address a couple of days ago, but maybe I should contact this crowd of learned experts and see if anyone else has the same problem.
In group chats that I am a part of, OTHER PEOPLE seem to have issues. For example,
calmfruit (Kompakt)
Person A (iPhone)
Person B (could be any phone)
if Person B sends a message, I receive it no issue, but Person A receives it on a delay, or not at all. They have already tried deleting the group chat. And, this has happened with multiple, DIFFERENT “Person A”s, in different group chats! Not sure if it’s coincidence or not that they all have iPhones.
If helpful, I’ve had the North American Kompakt for nearly six months. When I got the phone, I deactivated both iMessage and RCS through Google, just in case. I’m on Mint Mobile (likely T-Mobile equivalent). I use the default messaging app. (Many moons ago, I sideloaded a different messaging app that I’ve long since deleted. I still have other sideloaded apps, like inkOS.)
I’m thinking about switching my number back to my old iPhone, but with RCS and iMessage flipped off, to see if I can isolate the problem to the Kompakt (and/or 3G). However, I think the iPhone will default to RCS on, and there will be a precious few seconds where the iPhone is activated and I’m racing to turn off RCS. ![]()
Happy Saturday, all!
