But nooooo, the padlock symbol is still there! It annoys me so much, haha! Given that Kompakt is described as a “balanced” and “calm” phone, the lock screen gives a very unbalanced and asymmetrical impression.
This is the only “problem” I personally have with the Kompakt.
@urszula I don’t think so. Premium SMS is a term used for paying the services I mentioned, it’s not as popular as it used to be but still used in Balkans at least.
I haven’t heard anyone use word “premium” to describe the UI of an SMS dialog.
We also have that in Poland. It sucks the most when a child downloads random games on grandpa’s smartphone and then gets advised by a super cool game app to enter a pin code that immediately dropped on the phone… and it turns out to be a subscription to a bs game service for 5 euros per SMS every week added to the invoice. :o
I wouldn’t try thinking of ‘design for premium SMS’ as anything else than SMS sent from non-humans, including Premium SMS service, parcel delivery or weather warnings, might get standing out look and feel (indicator? shading?). But I could be wrong.
After reading the blogpost and checking the video, I am grateful for Mudita team to release a roadmap and for Michal for presenting it personally (that’s an “A” for community building) . I am happy to see the updates that are coming, even more for the bug fixes, although I hope that the disclosed list is non-exhaustive and the update includes important and frequently asked bug fixes.
One thing I would wish for is borders for the keys on the keyboard. Just a simple black line frame for each key.
Watching Apple’s WWDC Keynote yesterday in contrast to this update is quite funny. Yes it’s a completely absurd comparison against one of the largest companies in the world, but I can’t help but laugh at:
Early 2026 (8-10 months away)
Delete eBooks within the app
Table of Contents navigation
Song search
If it were not for sideloading, there is sadly no way whatsoever I would be able to make this phone work for me, as I would just use a $20 flip phone instead.
Also no mention of the fingerprint reader and bluetooth issues, though I imagine that’s (hopefully) just a given and they are part of ‘fixes for reported bugs’?
Yet the Kompakt more than ever has a purpose in light of these insane Apple products/interfaces, but that experience really must to be considerate/deliberate – minimalist != missing features, it needs to be more conscious than that.
Here’s the thing about the current state of how I am using my Kompakt, almost every app is sideloaded, and when it comes to maps, music, etc. It’s absolutely fine. But when it comes to SMS, or anything related to it functioning as a telephone, it works but is not a great experience, sometimes worrisome. The functionality as a telephone should be the top priority. When the phone and sms apps are completely refined, then work on the other stuff. This is a phone, above all.
I will sit this update out as it isn’t going to solve the SMS problems and I worry it may interfere with the setup I have now with Quik.
Two main reasons. Probably the most popular game in the world (or one of three / four). Has a lot scientifically proven positive effects on human brain, both adults and kids.
I am not here to go deep into discussion. That was a knowledge from the times I was more into chess. But apparently AI agrees with that:
Is chess actually good for the brain?
Chess has been proven to increase your IQ, improve memory function, help develop higher levels of creativity, simultaneously exercise both sides of the brain, help prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia, and increase a child’s problem solving skills.
But probably as all things, it may have negative effects as well.
This is biggest disappointment I have with the Kompakt and Mudita. I spent way too much time doing digital and tech things to a phone preaching digital minimalism, just to get it to work. It was mentally exhausting.
This road map is great, if I had never seen a smartphone before and it was 2010. Feels like Windows Phone all over again. Great ideas, great hardware (when Nokia showed up) with a initial feature set lagging and updates that can’t come fast enough.
@Michal_Kicinski, to inject some positivity, I’m glad a roadmap has been shared and mostly happy with the device. There’s a lot of reliance on sideloading for the moment, and some seem to prefer to keep 3rd pary apps that are mature with years of refinement already. Others prefer the Mudita design aesthetic and prefer optimised apps for MK. I’m in the latter group. Until then I’m happy to continue using it as-is. But there is one whopping hole that I would like filled – currently there is no voicemail indicator on MK. To make any dent in the US and UK market, this hole has to be filled. As per this announcement, it’s not in the July nor September/Autumn release, so that rules out 2025. It’s a must-have feature for many customers. Please outline (unequivocally) if support for voicemail notifications will be added within a year of release (or at all). If not, then reluctantly I would have to return the device.
@urszula Hi Urszula, hope you don’t mind me address you like this directly.
First of all, I absolutely adore the form factor, the eink screen and the jack (these two are essential for me) of Mudita Kompakt. It seems I am one of the few people who got this phone because my eyes have a problem with LCD screens.
I would like to ask if these updates would be possible in the future:
Those with sensitive eyes are often sensitive to cool frontlight. I cannot really use the light; would it be possible to add the warm light tone to the options? I saw here on the forum that people asked for this as well and could be really a good point for anyone with sensitive eyes
The text is a bit blurred, also could be a bit problem for sensitive eyes. I know it is at least in some cases possible to make the text sharper on software level (Boox Palma after latest firmware update has much crispier text). Is it something what could be achieved in some future firmware update?
I am not sure if this is bug, but even if I have turned of “vibration touch”, when I enter text for note or calendar, the touch is vibrating. Other touches do not.
Would it be possible to have option to select clocks on the screensaver even with the cost of battery consumption? And also as almost everyone please let us customize the screensaver.
I guess this is not possible on the screensaver, but at least after lock button press, would it be possible to see notifications about calls, sms, calendar events with the specification of the sender and event text? All of them. For example if I have two calendar events in span of 15 mins, I would like to see on the screen that I missed both. Right now I can see only the latest of the notification as all screen.
Could you please add Czech keyboard?
Would it be possible to add timer to the alarm app?
In calendar would it be possible to shorten the time span at least on 5 mins intervals? And please reecuring events with custom timing.
Are you considering to have another screen protector, which is matte? Again with my sensitive eyes, I can’t really look on anything even slightly glossy and people reported the screen protector is somehow glossy. I would like to protect my device and now I am kind of nervous I have it bare
Could you please share more specific timeline regarding the July update, it is start or rather end?
Sorry for long text and lot of points, thank you very much for your amazing support in this forum and for this device. Even though it has its drawback, I really like the device and this community overall and I believe it will become even better phone in the future.
