After reading this post, I finally see the value of a control-panel button. I now wonder how much time over the years I have wasted without one!
I am delighted by the development of Mudita Kompakt, with its e-ink screen, off-line plus mode and more. So much thought has gone into it.
I am curious what the SAR rating is, though I do not expect it to be as low as Pure.
I am curious if Kompakt could include the option of making calls via fully wired ethernet connection - using home internet rather than mobile data - connecting to home internet via data cable to Kompaktās USB-C port, e.g. by voice over internet protocol while on aeroplane mode. This would be a fabulous addition to make calling possible with far less mobile phone radiation, and could make calling overseas (by ethernet cable and data cable to USB-C port) cheap without the need of apps. I notice that Punkt does a version of this, calls it Pigeon, though it relies on Signal in order for calls to be made. I donāt know what is possible without compromising the privacy of the phone. Above phone has an option for making calls using wired internet on aeroplane mode, but there are questions about security overall for that phone, and I far prefer Kompaktās e-ink and other features.
What does Kompakt weigh?
Is the battery replaceable?
Is there a screen protector or case likely to be available or would something already on the market for another phone fit it?
Does Kompakt do voice to text? Just asking out from curiosity, I think these features often involve major privacy breaches.
Does Kompakt do group messaging?
Does Kompakt allow blocking numbers?
The blog says the E-ink screen is readable in low light without blue light. Another page says there is blue light if the E-ink screen is back lit - the back light is white. Is it possible to choose a colour temperature that has no blue in it for the backlight, as has been done for the torch function? Maybe I just rely on external lighting that has no blue if reading in the dark!!
What is the refresh rate of the E-ink screen? Does it keep up with fast SMS typing? For myself, I will deal with a slower refresh rate in order to have the wonderful benefits of an e-ink screen.
Well thatās quite a few questions, and I expect most of them have been thought about as people at Mudita are thinkers!
Most of Android phones (Kompakt should be in nutshell) allow all asked questions, minus e-ink related.
E-ink question is slow screen refresh for transitions, picture viewing, web browsing, its less visible on viewing text
Beside enhanced privacy and easy offline, I like grayscale e-ink as Retro nostalgia factor and enough for workload
and some fun. Quality sound can compensate and I hope speakers, audio jack and good mp3 player will complement it - I imagine some srylish wired and BT headphones by Mudita too.
Good software whatever is chosen to be and APK Sideloading freedom.
Maintaned optimized OS for specified hardware, even its lower specced then average Android can turn too good experience. Updated and growing by user demand / request is true FLOSS OS.
@neatsolutions Welcome to the Mudita Forum:
Itās fantastic to see your enthusiasm for Mudita Kompakt and your insightful questions!
To dive right in and answer some of the questions I already know the answers to: the SAR rating of the Kompakt, while indeed not quite as low as the Mudita Pure, it is pretty low. The Head SAR was measured at 0.49 W/kg using the EU measurement method and 0.97 W/kg using the US method.
The weight of the Kompakt, battery details, and accessories (like cases or screen protectors) are aspects weāre looking forward to sharing more about soon (like tomorrow, when we launch the campaign). So, stay tuned It wonāt be long now
Thanks for all the thoughtful questions and ideas. Itās always inspiring to hear from others who appreciate mindful tech and share the vision of simplicity and mindfulness.
See this is what has me concerned. A āpretty lowā sar rating better not make the phone unusable again in North America
@anon52747040 This actually shouldnāt be a concern, because the SAR for Mudita Kompakt is comparable to that of Apple iPhone 11 & Iām pretty sure that the iPhone 11 worked in Canada (and all of North America for that matter)- As of March 2022, the iPhone 11 has sold 159.2 million units worldwide , making it the tenth best-selling smartphone of all time.
And hereās the fun fact: the SAR for the iPhone11 is 0.95W/KG, which is just a smidge lower than Mudita Kompakt at 0.97 W/kg using the US method.
The issue with Mudita Pure was the ULTRA LOW SAR- so thatās where the network problems came from because of it, we were unable to get the PTCRB certification which is required by the major carriers. While the PTCRB doesnāt directly impact PTCRB certification itself, devices with ultra-low SAR ratings often use low-power transmission or other design optimizations to reduce radiation which then, in turn, affects network compatibility, stability, and overall reliability, all aspects PTCRB does evaluate.
Mudita Kompakt does have PTCRB certification which is an industry-recognized certification for cellular devices in North America. This ensures that mobile devices meet network-specific standards so they can function reliably on North American wireless networks.
Do you know if the phone will be available in the uk
Will the kompakt be available to use in the uk
@hunkychunkywelshmonk Welcome to the Mudita Forum! Iām happy to let you know that Mudita Kompakt will be available in the UK.
AWESOME, that is a huge stress removed lol
Of all the questions I asked back in October, I would most like to know from Mudita whether making mobile phone calls via ethernet cable while on airplane mode (i.e. minimising radiation expoosure from the phone) will be possible with Kompakt.
I am aware that not all Android phones enable this for app based calls - some do - but so far as I know in general the health supporting option of making mobile phone calls via hardwired internet connection while a mobile phone is on airplane mode is not made available. I would like to be able to make regular mobile/cell phone calls via a wired in internet connection while the phone is on airplane mode. Will this be possible? I am sorry I was unable to repeat this question sooner.
It is so easy to forget about the massive increase in radiofrequency radiation we are exposed to as it has no odour and cannot be seen, but the health impacts are real. It is possible for thoughtful technology to minimise our exposure to the microwave radiation mobile phones tend to run on. while remaining very functional.
Mudita cares about eye health, reducing screen time, meditation, sound quality, quality of lifeā¦ and it would be consistent with this commitment for Mudita to make not only wifi -internet based - calling available through wireless internet connections - which is very helpful when mobile phone signals are poor - but also to make hardwired internet based calls possible via data cable connected to ethernet cabled internet. Perhaps this would mean USB-C socket wearing out sooner and needing to be replaced or replaceable, I donāt know, but for me that would be worthwhile.
Please let us all know whatās possible!
After watching this video, I am grateful for yet another āmindfulā feature of the Mudita Kompakt ā no client-side scanning!
Thank you, Mudita, for mindfully looking out for our privacy with MuditaOS K ā a Google-apps-free, AOSP-based operating system.
Itās not low enough to cause that issue. Itās actually very similar to the rest of the smartphones. Which is why I donāt want it. Actually, one can pick up other phones with a lower SAR.
@neatsolutions I saw that you also asked this about this in another thread- so I will link that here, in case others are interested:
Our Founder @Michal_Kicinski had a very insightful post about SAR which people also might find interesting:
@urszula Thank you for linking the replies from the technical thread and Michalās post about Muditaās approach to EMF here as this is the thread where I first posted on this topic, and it is about it being a mindful phone!
I hope the ethernet cable calling option will be discussed in your instruction manual for Kompakt as many people are yet to learn about this fabulous low EMF option.
