So…I would love to use the Kompakt as my none-work phone. But there are some basic features that needs to be added (or please inform us users that they would never work, so I can mitigate somehow).
Car key apps; need the web browser to support propper authentication and authorisation. I bet it’s a framework or library that can be added so that the apps can use the browser to retrieve the correct tokens after authenticating.
Payments: There is an NFC chip…please add some sort of payment wallet support.
What more do I need if I can drive and pay, make calls and send messages? Pretty much nothing… <3
@trygve Thanks for your suggestions. I would love to hear what the community things about these suggestions.
To be honest, I don’t even know how Car Key Apps work. I use a physical key for me car. However, there was a user on here who was able to merge/upload all their accounts & Yubico Authenticator on Mudita Kompakt & works flawlessly. That’s their intended use.
So, since uses on this forum are so varied, I would love to hear others’ thoughts on this.
I bought the phone to be as barebones as possible. If more smart features are added, I think it would be cool if people like myself would have the option to opt out (and still recieve bug updates)
@The I’m with you on this. I like a bit of customization, but I don’t want Mudita Kompakt to get too complicated and connected to other devices, like cars, payment systems because then there are more chances for privacy/security issues to arise.
Browsers can be sideloaded, if people wish, but connecting Kompakt to too many things just defeats the purpose. But that’s just my opinion.
I wouldn’t exactly call them basic features of a phone but maybe I’m old fashioned. I use money to pay for things and a key for my car - I want my phone to call and text, that’s it.
I am really hoping down the road you guys consider a directory like the light phone 2, that is the one thing I will really miss about that phone. Being able to look stores up with their numbers, hours of operation etc on the go WITHOUT getting sucked into mindless browsing is so key
I actually think I will end up side loading NOTHING, for me it is a matter of pride keeping the Kompakt as is lol
I gave my Kompakt this functionality by sideloading the HERE WeGo app. Of course, I would prefer that the Maps app already had this functionality, but the Maps app also lacks (for now) a navigation function, whereas HERE WeGo has navigation (by car, by bus, etc.).
If we all wanted a phone to just call and text, why did we buy a phone with an NFC, the ability to create WiFi hotspots, with GPS and so on? The Kompakt is a digital device, not just a phone. Sorry. If they only wanted to build a phone they could have saved a lot in hardware…
But it’s because of these possibilities many of us bought it. Because many of us live in a digital society, no matter what personal phone we choose. So even if we want to disconnect from SoMe, browsers and digital media- we still need to move through society. In Norway, nobody use cash anymore. I could use a card, but I have been paying using digital wallets for years. Most people do. So I would like to still use Kompakt to get my groceries.
And many new cars use the phone as a key. Bluetooth and private keys enable this. They still support a physical card or similar as an alternative - but then the car won’t automatically open, lock, automatically open the trunk when you’re standing behind it etc. That’s a car in 2025.
To commute in Oslo, the best ticket approach is also through an app. It’s just to get around. Like my car. And for millions of people commuting and buying groceries, or driving the kids to soccer practice is a very basic thing
I agree with that. Because that would be a path I wouldn’t want to go down. I love the Kompakt for what it is. When I read what some people here are wishing for, I’m surprised. Why do you want to turn the Kompakt into something it’s not? Then buy another smartphone that fulfils your wishes.
I have to admit that I was afraid of something like this when the Kompakt was announced and people here asked what they wanted.
And I was so happy when I saw what few, but perfectly adequate functions the Kompakt then had.
Where is this supposed to lead? One person wants to start their car via an app, the next wants their e-mail and WhatsApp messages to be displayed directly. The banking app should work. Can’t a few Google apps also work?
Guys, are you sure you understand the path Mudita is taking?
What I’m reading here is more like ‘I want to live a more minimalist digital life but still don’t want to give up any of my digital conveniences’.
Serious question, what would you do if you lost/damaged your phone if you are relying on it so much? Surely it’s not a good thing having to use your phone for all these things?
@reggie99 YES, that’s a seriously good question. If everything is on your phone, then it’s like a single point of failure. The rapid growth in connected IoT devices creates many possibilities, that also includes hacks & security issues. It’s just too risky for me (but that’s just me).
If you followed this sad news from Washington, D.C., some four years ago, then you know that one of the two teenage girls in the stolen car that crashed, murdering the car’s owner in the process, freaked out immediately after the crash, exclaiming, “My phone! My phone!” She was more worried about her cellphone being stuck in the crashed car than about the 66-year-old man whom she murdered.
If you commit to updating your area via openstreetmaps you will have the same results as Google on the Mudita Kompakt. It is a labor of love, but I think it’s worth it imo
How is the experience with navigation for driving with the mudita using HereWeGo? I have been using Magic Earth in black and white and think it would work well on a eink screen but won’t know until I receive the mudita. The database is sometimes troubling, today I was searching for a farm nearby and it was the last out of 15 results with the first 3 results being over 700 miles away and the one I was looking for was just 15 miles away
Hello, fellow Norwegian! Just a short note on commuting in Oslo with the Kompakt: Can confirm that sideloading the Ruter app works fine! Had my first bus ride with a ticket on it yesterday
