Hi, I know this has been posted about ad infinitum but I am wondering if Mudita is really doing enough to support its customers with the issue. Most of the advice I have seen is coming from the community, not official help from tech support. This seems like Mudita is not supporting us enough:
My question is has anyone seen any change after deregistering from RCS system? Are you getting group messages from iPhones/Android phones two or three weeks after the deregistration.
I was initially excited to get the 1.4.0 update, expecting the group messaging feature to finally work. But, this feature has not worked on US Mobile Warp Speed and presently on Dark Star. I am not getting most group messages on either network from iPhones or Android phones. I do sporadically get messages from some users in a group chat. But I miss the majority of messages. Even when I start group chats myself with users I have never chatted with, both iPhones and Android default to RCS. I understand all the reasons that RCS remains dominant form of communication on exist group chats, but it is not even working for new group chats. I see that several users have complained that deregistering from RCS has not helped them.
I have done all the right things. I actually switched back to my android phone 11 days ago and turned off RCS chats on my old phone and then switched my phone number back to my Mudita phone. Then, I deregistering RCS Chats on the Google website. I entered the proper custom APN settings on Dark Star’s US Mobile network into my phone. I set the setting to send group texts as MMS messages and not as individual messages and I added and then deleted blocked number. It has been about 11 days since I deregistered and I am not able to receive most MMS group texts. although my group texts are received by other users.
Another thing I’d like to mention is that I have already reset the phone and that did not help. I also submitted a ticket and got no useful help from Mudita.
Group texts with both Android and iPhone users work perfectly for me now.
Unfortunately, it was a long and painful journey.
The iPhone-to-Android switch is nowhere near as painful as the iPhone-or-Android-to-Mudita switch. The problem is that both iPhone and Android use RCS these days. Turning off iMessage isn’t difficult at all in comparison to ditching RCS. But this isn’t really a Mudita issue as much as it is a de-Googled phone issue in general, because RCS is a Google service.
Hi Stephen,
Thank you for your response. How long did it take for the Google servers to deregister you from RCS? A month? Also, did you have to remove yourself from the entire set of group texts in another individual’s iPhone or Android phone or is the creation of each group separate from one another in deciding if you are an RCS member or not. I am still not getting group texts from iPhones that never group messaged me before. It seems from other posts that deregistering from Google has not entirely worked for them either and they are in my situation. I would like to hear their stories. Maybe we can get a critical mass. I stuck with the phone because I had the hope that it would grow and develop into a useful device. But this phone is really for techno enthusiasts who want to spend hours tinkering.
I have to stay, Stephen, that your defence of Mudita is admirable. We waited half a year to get group texting and our high expectations were dismayed. Mudita did not mention that we have to de-google our chatting network or provide any other caveats when announcing that the latest update magically gives us group texting. That is false advertising. If they had mentioned that De-googling would be this difficult, would they have sold the same amount of phones?
Supposedly (due to a random reddit post) a month after deregistering from RCS, your number should be removed from all previous RCS chats and group messages will work without iPhone/Android users having to do anything. If you interact with RCS in any way before that month is up (including submitting another deregister request) the timer on that 30 days resets.
As I submitted a few deregister requests, I’m still waiting on that 30 day timer. I am getting group messages from people who never group messaged me in the past though. Curious to see if it will all be fixed when my 30 days is up. Wish there was a way to tell Google to just remove you now.
I did hear the same thing from several user. There was even someone here on the forum that wrote that sometime had to pass before everything starting to function properly. I don’t remember if they mentioned a specific time limit, but it was not instantaneous.
