Wifi calling and texting issues

Hello. I am using AT&T on my Kompakt here in the US, and I am having trouble getting calls and texts to use Wi-Fi. I have poor signal inside my house (metal roof) and rely on my stable wifi connection for calls and texts. I constantly have calls drop, garbled voices, and texts that fail to go out or come in, when I am connected to wifi. In Advanced Settings, I have Wi-Fi calling turned on, and set to prefer calling over Wi-Fi, but it simply seems to not work. Are there any troubleshooting steps I can try? Thank you.

It seems like the Kompakt may need some way to register a 911 address with AT&T for Wi-Fi calling to work. It needs to be set per device, from what I understand. Can this currently be done?

@dlsellers Have you enabled WiFi calling?

Hi urszula. Yes, I have enabled it. But I ended up getting on with support with my provider (US Mobile, and MVNO for AT&T) and they were able to provision wi-fi calling for my line, and it seems to be working now!

@dlsellers I’m glad it worked out :slight_smile:

May I ask how you got AT&T to accept your Kompakt? I’ve been a customer with AT&T for 20 years, they will not allow me to transfer my line from an iPhone to the Kompakt. They say it is not a supported device. How did you do it?

I am not using AT&T proper. I have my line with US Mobile, which is an MVNO provider that “piggy backs” on the other networks. They have all the networks available, but they give them funny names (AT&T is “Dark Star”, Verizon is “Warp”, etc.). I highly recommend them for the Kompakt because they have a low data plan that is only $10/month and is a perfect fit. It’s ridiculous that AT&T won’t let you transfer your line, because it should work fine on the device with the right APN settings. I would try calling back and get another rep, or even better, ditch AT&T if you can and go with US Mobile or another MVNO.

Okay thanks. You are the second user to tell me US Mobile. I tried to switch to US Mobile last week, gave them my IMEIs etc., and they informed me that the Mudita Kompakt could not be used on any of their networks. I told them other users were currently using it & they basically said “how odd” and stuck to their guns.

Strange. I was already a customer before switching to the Kompakt, and I just swapped my sim card from my old samsung smart phone to the Kompakt, updated the APN settings, and no problem. If you have an old smart phone laying around that is compatible, I recommend trying again and just giving them the info for the compatible phone. Worst case, you can even look on eBay for a listing for a compatible phone and if there’'s a screenshot with the IMEI, use that. Or use the IMEI from a friend’s phone. Whatever it takes to just get US Mobile or another provider to send you a physical sim card.

I have a physical SIM card for ATT in my iPhone. When I put it into my Kompact, the phone went a little nuts - the phone recognized the other line, but would no longer allow either lines to work and I had to reset my phone to factory to get it working with the original SIM. I am not particularly adept at this stuff.
