Is it even a possibility for Mudita Kompakt’s camera to be upgraded to videotape? I know not being able to video is a deal-breaker for some of my family.

No. sorry, I checked, a video tape slot on the Kompakt is not present.

I saw a video of a guy recording a video using instagram’s camera feature. it is possible but youd have to download a second app to do it

I’m assuming OP means taking videos through the phone’s camera. In which case yes, it can, you just need to slideload Open Camera. There’s also a possibility Mudita may add the feature to the stock camera app, but that’s not certain.

Sideloading is not what a potential buyer wants to do, in most cases, I didn’t do a survey, that’s my opinion. The assumption is if a modern phone has a camera it’ll do stills and videos. Good thing the people asked before deciding, maybe they saved some money.
The product has a camera it should come out of the box with an adequate app, which the Kompakt doesn’t presently have (my opinion).

Actually, many people, including me, chose the Kompakt because it allows sideloading - that makes it more appealing than, say, the Light Phone.

The original question asked whether the camera could be “upgraded,” implying they were unsure if the hardware itself is capable of video. The fact that sideloaded camera apps allow for video proves that it doesn’t need to be “upgraded,” it is capable of video so long as it has the software to tell it to do so. I was answering OP’s question.

I don’t work for Mudita, complaining to me isn’t going to do you any good. I’m sorry if sideloading annoys you, but no one’s forcing you to do it (or to use the phone at all), and plenty of us are glad to have it as a feature.

Should Mudita Kompakt Add Native Video Recording?
I really like the minimalist approach of the Mudita Kompakt, but I think having basic video recording built into the default camera app would make the phone more practical. Even short clips for family moments or important events can be useful.
I know video recording is possible through third-party apps, and I’ve seen people install apps like Open Camera. Finding trusted Android apps through platforms like APKPure also makes sideloading easier for users who want extra features.
Still, it would be great if Mudita added native video recording in a future software update so everyone could use it without installing additional apps.
What do you think? Should video recording be included in the stock camera app, or is using a third-party app enough?

The only use-case I would personally have for video is an emergency. If I get stopped by a cop, or someone is following me, that’s when I’d like to have the video option. As of now, open camera just crashing my Kompakt.

I am curious what the community has to say on this topic. And if the camera can record video would users also expect the option to be able to send the video via the native SMS app because currently it’s not supported.
