  • This update fixes the issues with mobile data dropping after being disconnected from Wifi.
  • It fixes Verizon not connecting to the network. So from beta testers I’ve gotten confirmation that those are fixed.
  • The rest of the changes are related to optimizing AOSP apps for e-ink, optimizing settings, the ui, statusbar, lockscreen, AOD
  • Revamped music player

I’d like to say a huge thank you for this. I’ve had my Kompakt for just over a week now, and had been very irritated with the inconsistent notifications (even with Duraspeed tweaks and battery optimisation) and the threat of still needing a secondary phone for the things the stock OS couldn’t do.

The last straw was spending the last day-and-a-half chatting to Monzo customer services to bypass the front camera limitation, with no solution. Installed Lineage over lunch and been playing around with it since then; the difference is night and day, and it’s opened up a lot of possibilities for this phone. Got Monzo up and running within a couple of minutes too! Extremely happy, and a coffee will be heading your way shortly.

I’m having this issue. It was great for a while, then became an issue.

I reinstalled (factory reset and then sideloaded) when 1.2 came out. It was ok at first, but now I have this problem.

I did have to add another device ID. Not sure when it changed. I have also tried deleting the cache and storage for the Play Store. Not sure what’s going on…

A separate (though perhaps related?) issue has to do with Play Services seemingly losing network. I’m not sure how it happens exactly, but things were fine, then I went out, and I could not access the Play Store. Or Gmail. But the builtin browser worked. And my RCS chats worked.

Now I can’t open Google Messages.

Sorry I forgot to reply to that, we found a solution and it worked it for @rajatrrao1

  • Settings → Apps → Google Play services → ⋮ → Uninstall updates
  • reboot

Looking into it is that the new update of Play Services is requiring some new permissions that aren’t there. So add your Google accounts before it updates and they should work fine even if it updates after that.

Working on a permanent solution for 1.3

I’m glad you’ll find that useful

Thank you  I’m very happy that you’re enjoying it. And also happy that it has helped many users like you to make this phone as their only device.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it

I’m very happy to hear so that optimizations are make it feel snappier

Amazing work! LineageOS 20 has been my daily driver for a couple of months. I just installed your kompaktOS and it runs so much smoother right out of the gate. Your guide is clear and makes it vastly more accessible. Thank you for the tremendous amount of time and love you’ve put into this project!

That was by far the most comprehensive—and therefore the best—explanation of how to set up LineageOS on Mudita Kompakt. Absolutely foolproof.
Not to mention the masterpiece you’ve created with KompaktOS. Your dedication to this project is incredible.
It was exactly what I was looking for for my MuditaKompakt! It makes the MuditaKompakt wholesome now and hence has become my daily driver.
Astonishing work! Several coffees are on their way…

I’m very happy you’re liking it! Still working on performance improvements for the next updates.

And thank you for supporting the project, I appreciate the coffee!

I’m super happy to read this

This also makes me very happy to read, as a lot of the users are like your situation.

And thanks @S_on_Mudita for all the coffee!

i’m really tempted to give this a go @gezimos but conflicted as also wanting to try out OS 2.0 when it comes out … too much choice!

 maybe in the future
Right now it just beans for myself and expenses for running the server

Are you expecting something specific from 2.0? If yes then I suggest you wait and try it out first

I’m a bit in the same mood.

If I can avoid me the work of installing lineage… But the limite of Mudita’s OS is that it’s based on an old Android. So installing Lineage is the perennial solution.

Hi,
Thank you again gezimos for this beautiful work.
One suggestion/remark, I like using InkOS in dark mode, and I noticed that it works, but at every app switch, it passes by a white page, and make the navigation less fluid than in clear mode.
I have this dark setup on another non-ink phone and the problem doesn’t appear.
Also when playing with KompaktOS and aosp dark/clear modes and backgrounds, people have to be careful, sometimes you can have a full white homepage… but shortcuts to parameters are still accessible.

My 2 cents…

You might have turned auto e-ink refresh in inkos. Disable that. And don’t use eink modes in inkOS, use them in the Kompakt App.

This I didn’t understand. If you can get it on video and post it on the discord channel.

I am positively shocked of how well this LOS version runs. For a really old, low spec device like Kompakt with eink display it runs very smooth. Of course no comparison to newer devices with OLED or other display hw devices. But still 3GB RAM, old processor and eink? Really amazing.

Amazing work. Till now (12h later) no problems so far. This is really highly recommended. I am asking for an always-on display for a year and mudita always postpones it. You do it and it just works. And battery drain with no notificatrions, reception on, 5% over night. Maybe 2% more in 8h as without AOD on. Really nice.

4G calls working too without any problem.

I just find the speaker volume, esp when speaking to someone, too low. I believe, if I am right, it was louder with MuditaOS. Is there a way for you to increase speaker volume, esp during a call. I mostly do longer calls through speaker. Maybe it is 4G calls? They did sound louder with better call quality on official MOS.

Besides that. Great work. I love inkos Launcher, using it for probably a year on all of my devices: OLED, eink, new, old, big, small devices. On all of them. And esp on MuditaOS it was so important because of letters etc. Notification panel and so on.

Thank you for all the hard and amazing work. Some coffee from me too for you today…

BTW: I am no developer but I flash aosp GSI quite a lot as I have quite a few devices (Jelly Star, Bluefox NX1 and more). I think when you follow gezimos perfect instruction on his page EXACTLY, it should work perfectly. Just follow exactly all steps and if something is not clear or not working ask him, don’t just continue. But I think all should be clear. I didn’t do a mtkclient backup as I couldn’t get it to work, neither on fedora nor macos. Don’t know what I did wrong but flashing KOS was no problem and almost never has been in my life. So I took the risk. If you are really, really unsure, just stick with MOS.

PS: When someone calls the AOD screen doesn’t jump to the calling screen, it just shows a black screen of someone calling and of course it is ringing, So without touching the phone, I can’t see who is calling with AOD on. Any way to fix this?

And what ereader do you guys use? No one included of course in LOS. Which one is fast and best used with the quite small display?

In 1.3 some more memory optimizations are coming, especially to handle the lag after booting. And app stalling.
After disabling the animations and optimizing the apps to be paged the device feels quite usable despite running a much newer Android version with a lot of patches on top. So I’m quite surprised as well

This is interesting because I had to tweak the audio to allow lower levels, because the audio was so loud and other people could hear your conversation if they were too close to you. So I had to allow lower levels of volume for calls. If you can start a bug report, take a call, move the volume to max and then send the report to me on Discord and i’ll take a look. (developer options / bug report / full bug report)

I’ve always wondered if there’s different earpiece speaker batches on this phone because I’ve never had an issue with low volume, only with high volume. (it was the same for the loudspeaker, I had to patch the volume to allow lower levels of sound because it was insanely loud at night even at the lowest volume in MuditaOS).

I’m glad you found the installation process easy. I know the amount of information can look overwhelming for beginners, but I didn’t want to be one of those “flash recovery, adb sideload and you’re done”.

Are you using the default phone app or a different one? And make sure you have “heads-up notifications” turned on in Settings / Notifications.

If both are good, then if you can send me a bug report for this as well it would be helpful to see where the issue is.

You can join discord here.

Thank you so much for the review and for the coffee as well!

Try Koreader with this patch that @wander made

Congratulations on your achievement!

While the stock OS is great and was working well for me mostly, I decided to take the plunge on this out of curiosity and (mainly) to benefit from Android 16. I can’t believe how well it works, in particular how fast things seem to load (I find that downloads are about 3 times faster). I don’t need a whole suite of apps like some, but this will I think definitely improve my experience.

Enjoy your coffees!
