Text Message Notification but No Text

Hi
I heard my phone ding the other night but I couldn’t find a new text. On the home screen it says I have “1 unread SMS”. I have gotten more texts since then which show up appropriately.

Anything I might be missing here? Thank you.

@schwinghammer Is it possible that you’re getting some group texts (because that function is not yet fully supported yet.
However, there is a workaround that our community members have suggested that works:

Follow these steps:

  1. Open your Phone or Messages app.
  2. Block any number (a throwaway like “9999” is fine).
  3. Open Settings on your phone app.
  4. Go to Blocked numbers
  5. Find the number you just blocked and Unblock it.
  6. Reopen your SMS app. Your group messages should reappear, and the stuck notification badge should clear.

Out of curiosity Urszula, do you know if/when group texts may be fully supported? Bumping this related thread rather than making another one.

I ask because even with this workaround, I’ve found myself in an uncomfortable situation. I have one number blocked because they just harass me daily, which means I can’t see any group texts unless I unblock them. When I unblock them to see the group text, I also get a nice preview of them insulting me too. No matter how much I tell people I can’t do group texts, I still find myself added to them, and every time I get the phantom SMS ding I have to weigh if seeing the group text is worth feeling awful. It’s been the only major downside of the phone so far, but that’s a big downside.

I tried adding another throwaway number and unblocking that, didn’t work. Only works when I unblock all numbers.

Group texts coming in the next 40 days or less? Fall 2025 Mudita OS Version 1.4.0

As an NA customer…can’t wait :slight_smile: along with the music folders. Once those two updates come through, the rest is icing as far as I am concerned.

Ah, great, thanks! And agreed - I’ve been using the phone for six months now and am quite happy with it as is, group text issue aside. But if that’s coming soon that’s wonderful news :slight_smile:

Full group text support is coming in 1.4.0, the next update. We have it on the Mudita Kompakt Roadmap:

I have the phantom “1 unread SMS” indicator and cannot get rid of it. I just received and installed 1.4.0 this morning; still there. Went in and removed all blocked numbers; still there. Added more blocked numbers; still there. Removed one of the numbers I just blocked, still there.

Are you following these steps & it’s still not working? Even when you restart your phone AFTER you follow there steps?

  1. Open your Phone or Messages app.

That’s correct. I followed those steps and it still doesn’t work. I only have one group chat that I know of, and I cannot find any unread messages anywhere, yet the badge persists.

I don’t know what happened, but it magically disappeared since the last time I looked at my phone. :astonished: Just in time, it was driving me nuts!
