@bennyrt2 I just wanted to jump on here and address this question.
Although it’s been addressed in a few other threads, it may not be easy to find if you’re not looking in every thread. Our managing director @michalstasiuk address this topic (as well as other questions) here:

Now that I’m back from IFA and finally have a little breathing room, I’d like to add my two cents here.

I want to echo what @sharaz said and agree with @Michal_Kicinski: the central idea behind MuditaOS K 2.0 is choice. The Kalm Launcher will be optional, the original look will remain available, and Google Calendar sync will be entirely opt-in and turned off by default. This way, Mudita Kompakt users will be able to make the choice that feels right for them. Adding new options doesn’t mean everyone must use them. You will still be able to keep your Kompakt experience as simple and focused as you prefer. That’s the idea behind “Minimalist on your terms.”

I also see the remaining questions about CalDAV and other calendar providers, launcher and app-list combinations, and the timing of contact sync. Rather than speculate, I’ll take these questions to our team and come back with more information once I receive confirmed answers.
I will like to confirm that Mudita Kompakt will remain de-googled and we don’t plan on adding full Google services to the device. We’re also not planning to update the AOSP version.

Thank you for all the thoughtful feedback and for sharing both your excitement and your concerns with us!

I have a question regarding OS 2.0 : many people are still using sideloaded Whatsapp but it does pollute the contacts list and slow it down significantly (because whatsapp adds “hidden duplicate entries”). Will there be some kind of workaround to hide those duplicates ? (they appear I think when writing a new message, not when just browsing the contacts list)

(ATM I have no sideload app and thought I would stick to this)

It took a bit of customization, but eventually I got the Mudita just how I like it, and it’s been just a delight since then, it’s a piece of tech I actually love, even if it means I actually use it less than the device it replaced.

In the spirit of that customization (a word I saw mentioned on the thread already), there’s an aspect of the incoming Offline+ changes I’d love to propose options for.

As it exists, I can’t use Offline+ at all, because I’m an emergency contact for a close relative, they need to be able to call me in the middle of the night if the circumstances turn extreme. For that reason I would love to be able to customize my Offline+ to turn off everything except the phone signal. No bluetooth, no wifi, no data, no GPS: just the cell signal.

This may already be planned, to be clear, but in case it’s not: please consider it :folded_hands:

Noting that you can get apps on APK Mirror that have been reworked to remove those OS version restrictions. Of course though, caveat emptor with sideloading from unofficial sources.

Yeah, it’s really frustrating

I realize this is not for everyone but I forward incoming calls to a dumb phone - so when the Kompakt is in offline mode I still receive calls.
(I realize this is additional expense for a SIM and dumb phone.)

I have another question regarding offline and offline+ : we still get emergency signals in offline mode but not offline+ ?

I heard people here in France still received messages indicating to evacuate during the night due to massive fires, even though they were in place mode.

You can remove duplicate contacts via Mudita Center.

Mudita Center will identify the duplicates & you can either delete them or merge them.

I bought this phone for my son and he loves it… took a while to get used to, but he’s using it full time now. I’d like to get one for myself as well during this sale, but I really need the Sync Google Calendar feature, so hoping that’ll come soon. Sounds like the sale goes for the whole month, so I’ll choose closer to the end of Sep, hopefully it’s out around then.

I am sorry, but this is not possible. Some things (like GSM) are cut off by Offline+ on hardware level. So we can allow customisation on Bluetooth for example, and camera (AFAIK).

Google calendar coming November
(but not contacts, this will come in probably 2.1)

You can duplicate existing SIM with the same number, should add too much costs. And it will work the way You decribe it: if you turn off Komakt the call will come to other phone.

Offline+ is different than the airplane mode, which is not 100% cut off. Our is, for good and for worst. So, sorry, but it won’t work in emergency situations.

Awesome.. thanks… Google Contacts sync is awesome as well.. didn’t know that was coming. This is great news!! Sounds like I’ll hold off my order until Novemeber, maybe coincide with a Black Friday sale? Maybe not… given it’s coming from Poland.

Wow, I didn’t know that. I suspected it but was not sure. I’m really happy that Offline+ is 100% offline on the hardware level.

I am hoping in the future you can put a toggle in the settings so we can turn text messages off so the phone can only be used for calling, light phone has this feature and I really love it because then you literally have no distractions. And then when we want to check text messages we turn them back on and get any messages we have missed.
