I’m experiencing a contact/SMS matching issue on my Mudita Kompakt running MuditaOS 1.5.
Observed behavior:
Contacts stored on the SIM card are correctly matched to incoming SMS messages, and the sender’s contact name is displayed.
Contacts created directly on the Kompakt are not matched to incoming SMS messages. For these contacts, the incoming SMS displays only the phone number instead of the saved contact name. The phone number is stored exactly as it appears for the incoming SMS, so this does not appear to be a number-formatting issue. The contact itself is present in the Kompakt’s Contacts app with the correct name and phone number.
Has anyone else experienced this difference between SIM contacts and contacts created locally on the Kompakt? Is this a known issue in MuditaOS 1.5?
@sarahuwiler Thanks for flagging this. Let me make sure that I understand what is happening, so that we are on the same page.
As an example, you save “Anna” and her number directly on your Mudita Kompakt. When Anna texts you, her message shows up under “+48 123…”, as though you hadn’t saved her. So, the SMS messages arrive, but Mudita Kompakt doesn’t consistently recognize who sent them, even when the sender is saved in your Contacts.
UPDATE: I talked to our team about this as well as did some troubleshooting myself & here are some options:
Here are some things to check:
Is the contact is saved without country code? Is it John Smith with 123456789 or +48 123456789
However - because it is a SIM Card contact - there might be other causes, do we need to figure out what is happening.
Please check if incoming phone calls or the Call Log display the contact name properly or if the issue is also present in the Phone app. (If it affects both, it’s a Contacts provider indexing issue; if only Messages, it’s specific to KompaktMessages).
Verify Number Formatting:
Check whether the affected contact numbers are saved with their international country code (e.g., +48 for Poland, +1 for North America). Saving numbers with full country codes resolves most matching issues.
Our team recommends saving all contacts to phone storage.
Also - third party apps - like Whatsapp can cause some issues like this.
