Sideloaded Apps dont stay running in Background!

We have had the same problem.

I ended up installing an app killer. I whitelisted a few apps and it runs through and kills everything else.

Seems that the MK already kills apps, particularly 3rd party calendar notifications. - an app killer will KEEP this from occurring?

A few people were talking earlier in the thread about needing ways to shut down apps without manually going down the list in the app manager.

ah, got it. Thx.

Has anyone successfully used the Garmin Connect app on MK? I installed the app via Aurora Store, gave it all permissions, and excluded it from battery optimization. However, it still seems to quit and disconnect from my watch after about an hour. Did I miss a step? Is there some way to make the app stay awake? I rely on the watch for notifications as I often don’t have the phone in my pocket and miss the vibration.

Did you manage to solve this?

Sort of. After setting up the watch using the Garmin Connect app, I deleted GC and installed the GadgetBridge app (nightly version in my case). Gadgetbridge supports many garmin watches, but not my Epix 2. The nightly version allows you to select an unsupported device and try to make it behave like a supported one. In my case, my Epix works just fine when Gadgetbridge treats it like a Fenix.

Fortunately, GadgetBridge stays open in the background, likely because it uses a notification service that gives it memory priority.

Thanks for the info! I rely on Garmin Connect to sync my sports activities and upload to Strava so I don’t think that would work for me, but it’s good to know that exists for the future.

I turned off dev options after I sideloaded aurora and F droid. I installed Antenna pod and even after turning off dev options (I never touched battery settings) it still plays podcasts when opening other apps and turning the screen off.

I want to append this, as it has changed since before the software update. Antena pod no longer keeps playing in the background. My podcasts will stop a few minutes after the screen locks. The app is still open when I unlock the phone, but it has stopped playing. I don’t know if this is a change with Antenna pod itself, or just the way the Kompakt works.

@leiapotaytuh Thank you for the feedback. I’ve asked our team about this & I am waiting on them for some guidance.

This is related to Duraspeed (a battery/performance optimizer utility tool) from MTK that is included in the Kompakt. It runs in the background and from time to time it decides to restrict apps running in the background in this case AntenaPod.

You’ll have to open the battery optimizer with Activity Launcher app and disable the restriction from the apps that you don’t want to be restricted. If you find “Notification Log” activity you might find Duraspeed has a notification that has “restricted” your app.

I installed the Activity Launcher but don’t see a “Battery Optimizer” package or anything to unrestrict an app. What should I be looking for?

First you search “Battery Optimization” and “settings” option will appear. When u click on settings 2 options “battery optimizations” will appear. Then you click on the 1st one and “launch activity” then u will see the apps that are restricted or not.

Or it’s easier if you go to developer options: Search for Duraspeed.
It will look like this:
Duraspeed
App info

Click on it → then click Open

Then you will see the list of apps and find Antenna pod. Then turn on the switch for Antenna pod to allow it to run in the background.

Depending on where Antennapod might have been restricted you need to do one or both of the options above.

That’s a nice tip, thanks!
Do you think it’s wise to toggle Alarm in DuraSpeed settings?
Just in case, since so far I never had the alarm go off late.

For the alarm app and other system apps I don’t think it will make any difference. I’m pretty sure Duraspeed is configured to never restrict systems apps. And I saw that alarm also is hard-coded not to be dismissed even if a call comes at the same time as the alarm.

Found it, thank you!!

I actually just used the developer settings and “battery manager” and changed antenna pod from the restricted apps. Works perfectly now, and I didn’t have to install a new app.

So basically, there is not way to designate what apps shall run in the background and what should close when not in use?
