Side-loaded keyboards not working on certain apps

When using Whatsapp I keep getting the default Mudita keyboard which is a hassle for me to use (especially regarding spelling suggestions) I cannot access the system → language and keyboard tab anymore in the same way as before. Neither on 1.4 or 1.5. It only shows standard Mudita Keyboard and not anymore the Heliboard toggle. I did access this through developper options but somehow Whatsapp does not catch it. Brave Browser for example does. Then I disabled the Mudita Keyboard with adb but even this makes no difference for Whatsapp.

How to solve this? It would be nice to have the previous options again in the language and keyboard tab. How do I make Heliboard the system default?

Use a different device with the keyboard you like for Whatsapp.

Workarounds to access the setting to de/activate different keyboards, which disappears in the normal settings after choosing the Mudita keyboard:

With the app Activity Manager : search “settings” - search “keyboard” - choose “Settings$AvailableVirtualKeyboardActivity” and you get the dialog to de/activate the different keyboards.

With the app Unexpected Keyboard: When you start the app, you can activate and choose a keyboard.

Btw. Unexptected Keyboard has a eink-theme.

On my MK I can use different keyboards with WhatsApp.

Can’t you go into settings > manage apps > your keyboard of choice, and then set it as default again?

This setting disappeares the moment you choose the Mudita keyboard and its settings.

I tried it with Thumb-Key, the keyboard I normally use, and I can’t access the setting. For that reason I use Unexpected Keyboard, which gives access to the setting to choose the keyboard.
