Seriously considering returning my Kompakt

@kirkmahoneyphd & @minimalist4life I just want to clarify the info about navigation & turn-by-turn directions. It’s something we promised in the beginning and we are working on it. @BartekFilipek our CSMO has confirmed that Navigation will be added in one of the software updates.
However, there was also discussion about LIVE traffic updates & public transport in the app & that is something that we will NOT be adding.

Thank you, @urszula! That clarification means a lot to many of us!

I am not surprised that Mudita will not be adding LIVE traffic updates. For comparison, Sunbeam Wireless offers LIVE traffic updates but only through the US$40/year Premium Service. Sunbeam explains that these updates have a cost that they cannot absorb with the sale of their flip-phones. In contrast, Google gives away LIVE traffic updates in Google Maps because Google makes money from user data (whereas Sunbeam does not).

@kirkmahoneyphd I mean, if you’re not paying for the service…YOU are the service, am I right?

My big concern now is the low volume in speakerphone mode, which I use regularly. @urszula said that she would check with the team about this, given that I get sufficient volume when playing podcasts and audiobooks.

@urszula
I’ll jump on this to say that for me the loudspeaker it is too loud in its lowest volume. Kompakt’s lowest volume compares to Like iPhone 12 mini in 40-50% volume

It’s impossible to fall asleep with that high volume.

I think its hard for you cause the Sunbeam fits so many of your needs, its a very underated phone, the only reason I never could fully commit to it is the flip phone factor, other than that its the perfect dumbphone and having the waze directions tool is just awesome I love that app

I have an impression like the loudspeaker volume might be a multiplication of call volume and loudspeaker volume but Imma test it in a minute.

@urszula I have some concern about the volume control; I tried to increase volume while talking on a loudspeaker.

Had that control with old-style phone symbol. Every time you leave it after adjustment, or when you switch to/from loudspeaker, another volume level appears with a speaker icon. Oddly, at one time that other volume level was low, the other time it was moderate.

I’ve no clue if it’s just for multimedia, or for the loudspeaker volume? In my volume settings, multimedia (same speaker icon) volume is left at a fixed level, the way I configured it when I got the phone.

I have a feeling that there might be a glitch, which brings hope for loudspeaker call volume increase in the future. :slight_smile:

Strange people are having different experiences, on your phone volume seems more than good enough

Thanks. Unfortunately, I tested my Kompakt on a call in speakerphone mode again, and now I have two problems:

  1. The maximum volume of the Kompakt in speakerphone mode is insufficient.
  2. The microphone does a poor job – as reported by the other party on the call – of blocking the wind no matter whether the Kompakt is in speakerphone mode or is in non-speakerphone mode.

In contrast, my deGoogled Pixel 6:

  1. Has a much higher maximum volume in speakerphone mode;
  2. Blocks the wind while in speakerphone mode such that the other party does not hear – or can barely hear, if listening closely – the wind.

Wondering if its just an issue with your phone, strange for sure

I hear ya brother has to be exhausting, especially when the Sunbeam set the bar very high for you (and rightfully so)

I just emailed support@mudita.com to ask about getting a replacement. The ticketing system responded immediately (Sometimes I get nothing from the ticketing system.), so my request is in the queue!

If Mudita will exchange my original Kompakt for a replacement AND will give me a 14-day trial with the replacement, then I will test the Phone app’s speakerphone mode again.

If not, then I will return the original Kompakt for a refund.

@kirkmahoneyphd We’re also doing some tests- more or less to determine if it’s a subjective opinion or if there is some issues.

I recommend comparing the maximum-volume decibel levels of:

  • the Music app;
  • the Phone app’s speakerphone;
  • another cellphone’s speakerphone.

I do not have an audio decibel meter, but my perception tests with the Phone app’s speakerphone vs. two other cellphones’ speakerphones (a Sunbeam Wireless flip-phone and a Pixel 6) – holding each of the three devices at the same distance from my head and in the same quiet room – told me clearly that the Kompakt Phone app’s speakerphone at maximum volume could not come close to the maximum volume of those two other cellphones.
