I’ve been using my Mudita Kompakt for a little more than a year. It has been a delightful experience as it’s everything I need from a phone. I’m writing because yesterday the phone was ringing and when I took it out from my pocket the screen was very weird, full of grey lines that prevented me from seing who was calling me. I’ve managed to attempt a factory reset but the screen remains the same and I could not complete the reset because I really cannot see anything but a small part of the screen.
Despite its screen the phone is in a very good condition, never felt or hit something. What can I do?
That is not a software issue. Your screen is broken, you can see where the impact was. E-ink displays are very fragile.
All it takes an accidental small hit on the door, or kitchen counter. Always keep eink phones in the pocket facing you.
I think you can order a replacement screen or send the phone for repair
That is no scratch, the screen is completely smooth. And it didn’t hit anything never. Yes, that’s how you transport these devices and this one is not an exception. E-ink screens are not new to me: I had a couple of Kindle devices, still have one (for something like 10 years) and a Remarkable Paper Pro.
I never implied that you broke it, I just said that it’s broken
It could have been a manufacturing issue that took very little to bring to that point.
But that’s how E-ink usually breaks, it’s almost never the glass/plastic on the top it’s the panel underneath that’s sensitive.
Also that the glass on the Kompakt is actual glass not plastic, and most Kindles have a plastic “glass” that is flexible and can itself take the hit, and not transfer the impact to the panel underneath. Meanwhile glass is rigid so even small impacts can cause the panel under to break.
