I received received a disappointing glimpse into one aspect of the Mudita OS K roadmap from Support today. Whatever else it brings, apparently, transferring notes to/from the device won’t be possible. It’s not on the roadmap at all.
My original question:
“Is Mudita planning to support transfer of notes to/from the device in future? In other words, is it on the roadmap?”
Confirmation from Mudita Support:
“Unfortunately, this isn’t something we are currently planning to do. Importing notes will only be possible as part of a complete data migration from a Mudita Pure. Notes from other sources or as standalone data likely won’t be possible to import or export to and from the Kompakt”
I share this in the interests of transparency so people aren’t holding out unrealistic hopes for functionality that won’t be supported. You may not use the phone to capture notes, in which case, this may be trivial. If, on the other hand, you are in the habit of taking Notes and transferring them onto other devices, well, that won’t be possible.
There is still a case to sideload a notes application, but at this point, because the native functionality are very raw, I’m using a 3rd party keyboard, music player, notes app, clock/timer. Hmm. Food for thought.
Hmm that’s a bummer. I guess you’re referring to Mudita Center, but I wonder if it’s possible to transfer notes between Kompakt and a computer just like any other file. If the files are something like .txt it should be quite straightforward.
Looks like our Support team gave an honest answer reflecting the current official roadmap: dedicated note import/export isn’t scheduled right now.
However, I stand by what I mentioned before! The team is still exploring this topic. We’re gathering that sweet sweet feedback from various channels, including the forum and the survey you get with your shipping confirmation. This feedback can (and lets be honest, will) influence our roadmap going forward.
Our primary focus at the moment is getting Kompakt into everyone’s hands. But please don’t lose hope! I’m still working my magic behind the scenes!
ill just add my support for an import/export for notes or similar. it would make that perfect workflow of being purposeful with our devices. being able to import some daily notes or todo’s from the computer to take with me without needing to be connected to the internet or start using the phone as some full blown task manager
100% agree. I want to be able to load longer notes (grocery lists, daily notes, etc.) that I might need on the go but wouldn’t make sense to type on the Kompakt (especially with current keyboard).
And when I do make some notes on the device, I need to be able to move them off of the device to a place with better backup, organization, etc.
Would be extremely useful. Not everyone wants to carry an additional paper notebook or device in their pocket all day to cover this simple feature
Thanks @Sharaz. Since Mudita K users all fall on the minimalist spectrum somewhere, I think I’m on safe ground by saying that it doesn’t need to rival Obsidian. At minimum, I’d say it should do the following:
Allow editing/viewing/saving files in mark-down
Transfer in/out of the device (by USB)
Searching files
(Syncing services can come later or not at all – that’s a discussion for the future.)
You see, I think you’d satisfy the majority just with the above.
