Problem with SD card set as internal storage and music transfer

Hello,

My mudita kompakt recognizes my 512 GB SD Card but the Mudita Center App don’t show the new size available (32 GB + 512 GB) and doesn’t allow to transfer music files from my Windows PC to my phone. I can only transfer photos and E-book with the Mudita App. If I upload my music files directly to the phone in the music folder (without mudita APP), the files are automatically stored in the internal memory (32 GB) and not the SD Card. The SD card is only used when I install app via F-Droid or Aurora Store. Are you aware of this problem ? I have more than 32 GB of music files. Thank you for following up !

@vincent89 I was informed that our customer support was preparing answer for you, so I didn’t want to step on their toes, but since it looks like you have not received an answer from them yet, our team suggested that maybe there’s an unsupported file system on the card. Our team suggests making a backup of the card, formatting it to exFAT, and trying again. Let me know if that works.

@urszula Thank you for the help ! My problem is not yet resolved. When I drag and drop files in the Kompakt’s memory with my PC, the internal memory (32 GB) is used but never the SD card (512 GB).

If the 32 GB of the internal mmemory is reached after adding a lot of music files, I can’t add more music files to the phone even if the SD card is not yet full.

The SD card is only used when I install new apps (sideloading).

13 / 32 GB is used from the internal memory and 23 / 512 GB is used from the SD Card (see the attached photo).

When I first insert the SD card in the phone, I’ve received a notification in my Mudita Kompakt to suggest me to use the SD card as internal storage.

I followed the instruction.

Since I set the SD card as internal storage, it is no more recognized by my PC after removing it from my phone and I can’t format it anymore as you suggested.

I can’t backup the data on the SD card since it is not set as external storage.

Could you please repeat the same configuration of me (SD card set as internal storage in a Mudita Kompakt) and confirm me that you obtain the same results ?

Hi, while @urszula has a day off today, I took the liberty to pass your message on to the team. Either Urszula or I will be in touch with any next steps they come up with.
Have a good day!

@vincent89 I will try to get you some info on this topic. I would think the SD cards would show up separately as a space.

@urszula My PC (Windows) and my sideloaded music app (Qobuz) only see the internal phone memory (32 GB). There is no folder for the SD card since it was set as internal storage during the initial configuration of the phone.

Hello, Mudita team!

First, I would love to say that I absolutely love this device, and I am so happy I made the switch from apple.

I would like to second this issue regarding the external storage. I have added a 512 GB Micro SD with a boat load of music. My device can access the music files from the storage, and I transferred the songs to the device from MusicBee. However, the metadata is not being read, so songs are not grouped into albums. This is possibly because the music is added from MusicBee, but in the Mudita center, there is not an option to import music files through that UI.

@paperknots There is an update of Mudita Center coming which will give you more options. Also, check out our blog about the upcoming updates to Mudita Kompakt. The music up is getting some updates too.

The only way that I found to be able to use my SD card consist to download my purchased albums from my music app (Qobuz). I’m looking forward for the next update to resolve this issue with the Mudita Center.

I’ve been looking around but haven’t found a way to format an SD card on Kompakt (or Mudita Center for that matter). Am I missing something? Just got a new card to expand my storage and I’d like to format it before starting to use it

SD cards should work out of the box with your Kompakt. If not then format it with the exFAT filesystem. Most common OS’es should be able to do that with their built-in file managers.

Yeah it seemed to work fine out of the box but it’s good practice to format new storage devices. I don’t have a card reader on my computer so I couldn’t do the formatting on it either, but I whipped out my old android phone to do it :+1:

One of the member of the technical team said to me that they will works on a tool to be able to manage the SD card directly on the phone.

" Hi Vincent,

Apologies for the late reply. We’re dealing with record numbers of tickets after the Mudita Kompakt premiere and have developed a substantial backlog.

Our developers were unable to reproduce your situation on a clear phone without sideloaded apps. In the current version of the phone, setting SD Card as internal storage should not be possible on a clear phone without sideloaded apps.

We suspect one of the sideloaded apps allowed you to access a hidden menu, which changed a device configuration that is not yet correctly supported by Kompakt.

We are working on SD Card Management and allowing you to use SD Card as internal storage correctly.

If you have any details about:

  • What apps did you have on a Mudita Kompakt?
  • What was your SD card state when entering it for the first time into the phone (like empty, clear, old data, unformatted, formatted exFAT or FAT32)
  • How did you access this menu?

Right now, to resolve your issue, we would recommend a factory reset and formatting the SD Card as well on a PC.

Kind Regards,

Tomasz Małecki"
