Outlook/ CalDAV, CardDAV support for Calendar and Contacts on Kompakt

Hi Mudita team (and community),

Just wondering if there are any updates on iCloud support for contact and calendar sync with the Mudita Kompakt? I know this was mentioned as a requested feature in the past, and I (like many Apple users) rely on iCloud for managing my contacts and calendar.

Would love to know if:
• iCloud sync support is on the roadmap
• There’s any ETA or progress update
• Or if there are any current workarounds that others have found helpful

Thanks again for all your work on this device—it’s been exciting to see it develop!

The Kompakt calendar will not be able to synchronize, but the link below shows a suggested alternative I’ll use to synchronize my iCloud calendar.

Thank you Roberto! I looked into DAVx5 and it looks like users also need separate calendar and contact apps. Do you know if it the Mudita calendar and contact apps will sync with DAVx5 or are you planning on side-loading third party calendar and contact apps? If the latter, may I ask which apps you either have or are considering?

@stevenjc123 Thanks for your question. This was something that our community has asked about a lot so, Apple/Google calendar sync is something that we planning on implementing, however it will not be ready at launch. It will be included in a future update.

@roberto Actually…

I’m a bit confuse, or maybe I just misunderstood. Good to know that it will be implemented in the future.

@roberto As far as I know, Just because a system supports Apple and Google sync doesn’t automatically mean it supports all CalDAV and CardDAV servers.

A lot of assuming here and so I hope it’s ok to clarify a bit ;-). Are you saying that, in a future update, Apple iCloud calendar and contacts will sync with Mudita calendar and contact apps? If so, is this feature anticipated to be released within 6 months of launch? If so, this would greatly increase the user utility!

@stevenjc123 That’s what our team has said. I actually posted their response word-for-word :wink:

Fantastic news! Has or can the team provide any kind of time estimate, even if a loose one (ex: 0-6 months, 6-12 months, more than 1 year)?

@stevenjc123 Unfortunately, this is something that I don’t have any definitive info about.

That is awesome, this makes it much easier to sync my work calendar with the Kompakt

Ah darn. I would love that added to feature requests if possible!

Hello,

I’ve got good and bad news:

Good news:

  • I’ve got my kompakt :slight_smile:
  • Contacts are shown correctly, and when created they are published in my nextcloud, but then I’ve end having them duplicated

Bad news:

  • Davx installed, I sideloaded f-droid, and from that I installed DavX
  • Sync is done…
    • But the mudita calendar doesn’t show anything. I needed to install etar (from f-droid too, to see the events)

I can confirm that the DAVx5 will synchronize both the contacts and the calendar (in my case, hosted at a Nextcloud instance) with the built-in Phone app and the Etar app, respectively.

Fun point: I ran synchronization of contacts and calendar in DAVx5 before I sideloaded the Etar app, and the Etar app upon being opened showed all of the calendar events that my Nextcloud instance hosts! Put in another way, the Etar app recognized the DAVx5-facilitated calendar data without me pointing the Etar app at DAVx5 or vice-versa.

I would love a guide on how to use davx5 and nextcloud and all that! Coming form IOS!

Start by going here:

The Good Cloud and Tab.Digital are two Nextcloud service providers that let you host your contacts and calendar at no charge.

@kirkmahoneyphd, sounds like you’ve got a nicely thought out set up. For newbies like me, if you don’t mind, take me through it. So, you’ve installed Davx5 on the MK. This syncs your NextCloud contacts with the native Phone app on the MK and it syncs your NextCloud calendar with a third-party app you’ve installed on the MK called Etar. I presume Etar isn’t optimised for e-ink, so what is the experience like, please? Do you have any images you could possibly share? Did you choose Etar because the native Calendar doesn’t work with Davx5? Or do you just prefer Etar?

Many thanks.

I have no Etar images to share, as they would invade my privacy.

The built-in Calendar app is crisper, so I would prefer to use it, but DAVx5 cannot talk to it. In contrast, the sideloaded Etar app is NOT optimized for E Ink, so dates do not “pop” (are gray instead of black), and the banner at the top is a dark gray (instead of a crisp black or white).

I will keep using Etar instead of Calendar on my Kompakt until Mudita provides DAVx5 support for Calendar, as my household “single-sources” contacts and calendar (in a Nextcloud instance) across:

  • a Google Android cellphone (running the Contacts app and the Open Calendar app);
  • a deGoogled Pixel 6 (running the Contacts and Calendar apps included with CalyxOS);
  • Thunderbird on Windows; and,
  • Thunderbird on Pop!_OS (a flavor of Ubuntu).

Thanks for the helpful reply. Regarding images of the calendar, oh, yes, sorry, I didn’t think.

Is DAVx5 support on the roadmap? Looks like I’m strapping in for a bit of friction in the first year with the MK.
