Hi! I am only recently having this issue. I was able to send and receive photo MMS messages no problem when I first got my kompakt. Within the last 2 weeks, every photo message says “couldn’t download tap to try download again” and when I do that, it’s just a thinking circle. I’ve restarted, turned off completely for an hour, attempted to mess with APN settings (unsuccessfully), blocked and unblocked contacts. Nothing has worked, although I did get a few random group texts that may be a few days old. This is kind of frustrating, I want to keep this phone damnit!
Having the same issue. I’ve been telling people to email me pictures until it is fixed.
@jaks & @becks I have reached out to our dev team about this. I’m sorry that you’re experiencing issues.
Is this still an issue? Seems like I can’t receive or send pictures?
Yes, I also cannot send or receive photos although I never could. If someone sends me a photo it indicates that a file was sent but says “couldn’t download”
Yes but I do not have the same view on the second photo, it doesn’t have the the option to turn MSS messages on or off. It just has the first two toggles.
@josephphillip this might indicate a carrier issue. Have you reached out to them to update APN settings?
For me switching away from the stock messaging app helped.
Would there be a chance that I did not activate my SIM in a sophisticated enough phone? I haven’t reached out to the carried because I am not sure what they would say since they told me this phone was incompatible with their service and I simply used a work around to get by this by activating the SIM in an old flip phone and then moving it over to the Mudita.
On that photo you just sent me. That screen on my phone says “Verizon” where yours says “Play” other than that there is no difference save the 3rd line being missing. Is there anything I am doing wrong or could do to get that third line?
This could also be the issue. Try using another Android phone to activate the sim & the transfer it over.
@urszula how do you get to the page where you provided the screenshots? I also was receiving photos completely fine up until a week or two ago, and now I cannot receive any.
In the SMS app click the 3 line icon near the Pencil icon
@Cavalier4990 what app do you use instead?
Did you ever get this resolved?
I’ve asked our team about this & this is their response:
We have identified a bug in the latest software version that can affect the manual downloading of MMS messages. This issue occurs specifically when the “Automatically download MMS” option is turned off in the Messages app settings.
To confirm if this is what’s affecting your device, could you please check your settings and clarify if you have this option turned off?
We are actively working on a permanent fix for this in a future update. In the meantime, there is a simple workaround that should resolve the problem for you:
Please go to your Messages app → tap the settings menu in the top right. Select your SIM card and ensure that the toggle for “Download MMS content” is turned ON.
With this setting enabled, picture messages should download correctly to your device. Please tell us if thats the case.
Other Potential Causes
If enabling the automatic download feature does not solve the problem, there could be other factors involved. Here are a few other common reasons for MMS issues in North America:
- File Size or Format: The sender’s image might be too large (often over 1MB) or in a format not supported by the network.
- APN Settings: Your phone’s APN (Access Point Name) settings, which are required for MMS, may be incorrect for your carrier.
- Roaming: If you are currently roaming, your device may not be able to use the MMS services of the local network.
- Carrier Blacklisting: Unfortunately, some US carriers, particularly AT&T and Verizon, have been known to block or “blacklist” devices not purchased directly from them, which can specifically affect services like MMS and VoLTE.
- Group message source of the image: If image was sent in group conversation - which is a feature we currently don’t support - it might be not possible to download the image.
It seems likely that Verizon blacklisted my phone as I have jumped through every single hoop offered to me. Is there a remedy or do I just not have a phone that can receive photos now?
@josephphillip I’m sorry that you’re experiencing these issues. Did Verizon inform you that you have been blacklisted? Or is this just your hypothesis? Have you tried to put the sim card in your old phone and see if you can reset the network service?
