MMS not downloading after 1.4 update (SMS works, Visible)

Hey everyone!
I’m hoping someone here might have run into this. I updated my Mudita Kompakt to 1.4.0 today and since then I haven’t been able to download picture messages anymore in SMS. I got the phone on 3/5/26 and MMS worked completely fine before the update. I could send and receive pictures without any issues. After updating today, SMS still works and I can actually send picture messages, but I can’t download any pictures that people send me. When one comes through it just says “Couldn’t download – message expired or not available.”
I’m using Visible (Verizon network). I even put the SIM back into my Galaxy Flip 6 and MMS works normally there, so the SIM and carrier seem fine. I’ve tried turning mobile data on and off, making sure “Download MMS content” is enabled, restarting the phone multiple times, testing on LTE with Wi-Fi off, checking the APN settings, removing and reinserting the SIM, and even doing a factory reset, but the behavior is still the same. Since everything worked before the update, I’m wondering if 1.4.0 might have broken MMS for Verizon-based carriers like Visible. Getting pictures is something I actually need, so if I can’t get this working I might end up returning the phone, which would be a shame because I really like it otherwise. Has anyone else run into this or found a fix?

@Sqids Welcome to the Mudita Forum. We’ve glad that you’re here.
Can you check if maybe during the update some of your settings may have reset. It shouldn’t happen, but technology is fun that way.

Thank you for responding! I ended up switching to US Mobile and everything has been working without any issues. I’m not sure why Verizon makes it so complicated, but after switching and using the T-Mobile network it’s been working great so far.

Hello everyone,

Just adding another data point here in case it’s helpful for Mudita. I’m hitting the exact same issue on MuditaOS K v1.4.0 with Visible. SMS works, I can send picture messages, but incoming MMS just sits in the thread and won’t download.

I activated the physical SIM on a Pixel 6a, then swapped the SIM into the Kompakt. Calls (with VoLTE), SMS, and outgoing MMS all work fine, so the SIM and IMEI situation seem to be okay on Verizon’s side. It does look like a 1.4.0-specific MMS receive bug. If I put the same SIM back into the Pixel 6a, I can receive MMS fine and have no issues. It is only once I move it to the Kompakt that I stop receiving MMS.

Things I’ve tried with no luck:

  • Toggling mobile data off/on and airplane mode
  • Wi-Fi off, LTE only
  • Confirming “auto-download MMS” is enabled
  • Adding a custom APN with MMSC set to http[:]//mms[.]vtext[.]com/servlets/mms and APN type including mms (the field wouldn’t accept “dun” but mms saved fine)
  • Reboots after each change

Really hoping this gets prioritized in the next update rather than being written off as a Verizon/Visible compatibility quirk. I saw the OP ended up switching to a T-Mobile-based MVNO, but for those of us who’d prefer to stay on Verizon coverage, a fix would mean a lot. Otherwise the phone has been great. I am happy to provide logs or test a beta build if that would help.

I am also in the same situation as jon-0. I was on with Visible’s tech support for roughly an hour and a half, and they gave me all the APN info, and none of it worked for getting pictures or MMS. Can send out just fine, no luck on receiving. I came from iPhone, and had turned off RCS and iMessage before moving the SIM card. Put the SIM into my iPhone, I can receive MMS and pictures with no issues (no RCS, no iMessage). I only just received the phone, so 1.4 is the only version I’ve used.

I’d like to stay with Visible, as I live in a rural area with limited service and Verizon is the closest tower.

@jon-0 if you use all capitals for “DUN” it will accept it, but it did nothing for me in terms of MMS. Dun is supposed to be for tethering.

Are your MMS download settings enabled?

Additionally, if the problem persists, after all the proper setting have been enabled & APN settings set, I would encourage you to contact our customer support at SUPPORT@Mudita.com.
They will most likely ask for logs to be sent over so they can better diagnose the problem.

Hi @urszula,

Thank you for replying to this thread and for your support.

Yes, I do have the ‘Download MMS content’ set to enabled. Unfortunately, as a new user, I cannot upload an image to this forum.

I will try reaching out to customer support with these same details. Thank you.
