I wanted to check in regarding the issue people (myself included) had with randomly missing texts and phone calls. I have long deregistered rcs and Icloud and have also inputted my apn settings based on advice from previous threads. Essentially I have tried everything and still would periodically miss texts and calls. I even filled a tech support ticket and followed their advice. issue still persisted.
I live in Canada, Nova scotia to be specific and use koodo/telus which is supposed to be officially supported. Because of the nature of the issue I am not sure if 1.50 fixed it. I did want to check with others and also to clarify with the mudita team (Ursula?) if this issue was directly addressed in this update as I didn’t see mention of it in the chagelog? Also if others have noticed that it has been fixed since updating or still are having the issue? I got my 1.5 update yesterday btw so still ont sure if it has changed things.
@brantoll7
Welcome to the Mudita Forum. We are glad that you’re here.
Thanks for flagging this.
I would encourage you to open a support ticket. Our tech support team might request logs from you in order to identify what is specifically happening in your case.
It’s a bit more nuanced than just “it’s been fixed”
Very often, there’s really nothing to fix. Very often it’s a specific setting that needs to be changed or enabled based on that specific users location, network/data/phone plan and their provider.
That’s why I always encourage users to teach out to tech support. They can view logs and usually determine where the issue is stemming from. That’s why there’s no “one-size-fits-all” fix for these type of issues.
I’ll give you an example of something that happened last week. A user wrote that they suddenly stopped being able to SEND texts out of the blue. They can still get them but they can’t send them. Phone calls can be made and received without any issue. The user’s natural conclusion was: “The phone broke.”
In this case, it was that their carrier plan hit a limitation related to mobile data. Many people don’t realize that modern messaging behavior can silently trigger MMS:
Group messages are often converted to MMS.
Emojis can sometimes trigger MMS depending on the carrier and messaging app implementation.
Very long messages (typically over 160 characters, sometimes several concatenated SMS segments) may be handled differently by certain carriers.
MMS requires mobile data, even when you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
And because of getting the logs and asking specific questions our team was able to determine user still had enough service for:
Voice calls
Receiving SMS
Basic network registration
BUT not enough mobile data allowance (or their carrier had restricted data access), outgoing MMS messages failed.
This type of situation is not something that we just FIX because the logs were supporting a network-side rejection rather than a device-side failure is the key evidence here.
Thanks for getting back to me. This specific issue I had already reached out to tech support and the issue wasn’t resolved. That being said, I can’t confirm as it has only been about 5 days since the update but I don’t seem to be missing messages and calls like I was before with the kompakt. I was just wondering if there is any chance the team addressed something in this update that wasn’t listed in the changelog? Also I wanted to see if other users have stopped having this issue since 1.50 like I appear to have.
By this issue I mean randomly missed texts and calls despite trying every fix: Duraspeed, APN, mms settings you suggested, calling provider, contacting mudita support. I litterally don’t think I left any troubleshooting action undone. Which was definitely not the case for many of the people I’ve seen with this issue. However I noticed in some of the threads there were others like me who had this issue despite trying everything.
I recently started using my Kompakt again, after using another handset for a while. I previously had an issue with getting the message tone and no message or notification. I thought this had been resolved, by opting out of RCS but it appears to still be present
Hi Urszula
I’m using the stock Mudita sms app, I have tried to replicate it, by having a text conversation with a couple of people, but I can’t get it to happen when I’m actively monitoring the Kompakt. Can’t say for sure but it seems to happen when the phone is in full sleep mode.
I have looked at the APN settings for my provider and they match the settings I have.
@sundancermartin I would encourage you to contact our customer support in this case. Their email is [email protected] or you can open a support ticket directly from our website:
Our team might ask you for logs, so that they can look “under the hood” to see what’s happening. It could be a variety of issues & they will be able to pinpoint what’s happening and offer some solutions.
I’m still getting a message tone and no message. It seems to happen completely at random.
I raised a ticket as you suggested, but it was a complete waste of times, I was basically told to try the things I stated I had already done when raising the ticket
This was the main reason for not using the Kompakt previously, real shame as I really like the device.
Has anyone had any luck using a different sms app, and how would one go about disabling the stock app to do so
