I’m so excited to make the big jump from regular iPhone use to the Kompakt! I got mine last week and can’t wait to make the change.
Is there anyone out there who has made the jump from iPhone w/ T Mobile? If so, could you point me to a tutorial for how to maintain text functions? I have sideloaded OpenBubbles for group chats, but am open to suggestions.
I got a second sim card for the transition - and I know the Kompakt will never replace the iPhone. Forwarding phone calls to the Kompakt because of its size and speaker quality is nice.
Dear Kristen, I am physical using sim cards with different numbers.
Forwarding incoming calls from your iPhone to the Kompakt is easy in the settings on the iPhone, settings/apps/phone, scroll to Call Forwarding toggle it on and put in the phone number of the Kompakt phone sim. Outgoing calls from the Kompakt will be from a different number - it’s not the phone number I give most of my contacts or use for outgoing business calls I still use the iPhone.
You will not be able to forward iMessage texts from the iPhone number to the Kompakt SMS phone because it has a different phone number - for that you’d need a cross-platform messaging app such as whatsapp or signal.
I still continue using the iPhone iMessage for most texting and all of my email and mobile internet needs.
Forwarding of all calls and texts would be simply to remove the physical sim card with your well known number from your iPhone and install it the sim in Kompakt phone. That way you will keep the same number for your contacts, but you’ll not be using iMessage texting on the Kompakt as it is SMS only out of the box.
I made the transition a few years ago from an iPhone and I have a heavily customized eink phone that I use on a regular basis. I use the mudita app for messages and then everything else is eink optimized apps. Let me know if you have any questions or need any advice to make the transition smoother!
I was using an iPhone on the t-mobile/Us mobile network. I also use open bubbles, happy to answer any questions if you want to DM me. There is a very good post on here somewhere about how to set up open bubbles correctly, it works well once you get it right. I did initially have issues with group messages that include android and iPhone users. I think that was better once RCS was fully disabled and new chats created.
