Kompakt - I'm keeping mine

Since negative experiences are more likely to prompt people to post here, I wanted to balance that by saying that I love my Kompakt and have no intention of returning or selling it. I love e-ink, I love the size, and I’m especially glad that Mudita doesn’t discourage tinkering and sideloading. I am not a happy person when I can’t tinker. For me, any shortcomings are readily addressed with a little adb customization.

I agree! I love my Kompakt.

I have sideloaded what I need for daily use. Anything else that I used to do on my iPhone I have moved to my laptop.

It’s been 20 days with Kompakt. I like using it, except for the buggy finger print sensor.

I’m mostly happy with mine too despite some of the issues. I’ve been able to overcome most problems with sideloading. I do understand the frustration from people who don’t like to tinker with their devices, though. I’m a Linux user and I’m used to putting in a little work to get things to work the way I want.

Most people want a device to work out of the box. Some of the dev team’s choices are astonishing, like not giving us control of the phone’s notifications or making in-house versions of apps that miss the mark when better FOSS apps already exist. So I really do understand and feel for those that don’t believe the device is right for them.

Nonetheless, I love mine and I plan to keep it. Honestly, even if I were to switch to another device for a phone in the future, I’d likely hold onto this as a pocket e-reader.

I believe the intention might have been an Android-based feature phone with touchscreen. That could explain tight customizability limitation. Thankfully it goes in a bit different direction.
I’m good with my phone anyways and it should only get better!

I’m keeping mine also. It’s great

Yes, same here!

I almost feel like, after getting everything set up, I don’t have a lot to say about it! I don’t spend much time on my phone at all any more, it’s there when I need it but then it’s very easy to forget about and doesn’t take my attention at all. So I guess that makes the Mudita Kompakt a great success - near zero screen time and a phone that just works when I need it.

I’m overall satisfied with my Mudita Kompakt. I like the small dimensions of the phone, the quality of the materials of the phone and the protective case. My main apps that I use everyday (my banking app (Desjardins), my running app (Coros), my grocery list app (Listonic), my e-book app (Kindle) and my music app (Qobuz) works without any issue. I don’t sideloaded a web browser and a email app to be able to “disconnect”. I check my emails at the end of the day on my tablet or my old phone (Pixel 7) and I don’t suffer from that. I don’t receive pop up notifications from Discord (my friends) and Messenger (my family) but now they contact me by SMS or Signal (Molly). I installed the launch app (Niagara), I already have the pro version installed on my Samsung Galaxy tablet and my Pixel 7, so I didn’t need to adapt to the default user interface. I deactivate the password/finger locking option until the next update and I live with that. I’m keeping hope that the phone will be improved with the upcoming updates.

And finally, I give my vote to @urszula to be nominated as the employee of the month of the Mudita company . She deals with the inquiries like a boss.

@lisa

Thank you so much for sharing this, and for bringing such a positive and balanced perspective to the forum! :yellow_heart: We’re truly happy to hear that you’re enjoying your Mudita Kompakt, especially the E Ink screen and compact (PUN INTENDED) size. It’s great to know that the ability to tinker and customize is bringing you joy (I kinda think that’s the most UNIQUE part about this AWESOME device), because we believe in empowering users to make the device truly their own. Your kind words and support mean a lot to the entire Mudita team. Thanks again for being part of the community!

Aside from some quibbles, keeping mine as well. If for no other reason, the battery life on this MK is amazing!! It has accomplished my desire to “unplug” more and not be hampered by a flip phone. The Kompakt is certainly a keeper in my book.

I also just want to add my voice to the fact that I am keeping the kompakt and happy to wait for the updates.

Yes - Thank you Mudita! I love my phone. I love the matte screen, e-ink , small size and the ability to sideload apps. If you make a Kompakt II and bump up the android version and ram a touch I will buy that one too.

I’m on the same boat ! Love mine  ! Few little things I’m hoping to see getting fixed in the upcoming updates but besides that, it is a fantastic device. And it already achieved what I was looking for : phone detox !

I’m also happy after making minor adjustments to the launcher and installing a few apps. Mudita is my only phone. I hope the team will continue to optimize and tweak some issues. Overall, I see a future in these minimalist devices, as the current evolution of smartphones is not only fooling us but also enslaving us.

Same! New user here, but I love my Kompakt! The E-ink screen and the ability to sideload a few essential apps are the best parts for me. Finally getting my phone usage under control, so thanks, Mudita! :purple_heart:

I have the Minimal Phone and Light Phone 3, and prefer the Kompakt.
The feeling I have using the Mudita is calmer and more intentional.

It’s great to see other people adopting mindful technology and unplugging from the constant dopamine distraction that are modern smartphones.

I’m keeping mine!

P.S. I ordered the Mudita Harmony 2 Alarm Clock too.
