Kompakt: ebook reader functionalities

The ebook reader is one of the reasons I decided to get a Kompakt. It’s too basic and doesn’t have the essential features of a reader. For example, you can’t put bookmarks, take notes, highlight text or see how much time is left until the end of the book.

Are these features expected in the short term?

I read a book on the train today - really loved being able to just open my phone and start reading! I agree it would be nice to see the time remaining (in my case, time remaining in chapter is really useful to know whether I should start another chapter or finish here). The Kompakt e-reader is great as it is in my opinion - it’s got the essential features I need (i.e. being able to hold multiple books, start and stop books, see your total progress, set the font size, and turn pages back and forth easily). I love how simple it is.

I think until Kompakt receives those features, you can sideload an ereader app

I have sideloaded ReadEra - works well. But - Kompakt in the whole UI has no antialiasing so experience of reading is worse than on any contemporary eink device. Even something like Voxter Scriba 195 S looks better…

I wouldn’t have imagined this is the best device for dedicated reading outside quick notes, and maybe some catchup up when traveling, even then kindles are super light to take with.

but ive no comment on the ereader software yet, sounds like it does the basics right?

It works - I’m very happy with Kompakt. Wanted eink phone from years

I agree, the E-reader is a bit too basic. I’m missing the ability to open a list of chapters / headers in the epub file. E.g. in a big epub file like the NKJ Bible, where all the books in the Bible are listed. It is not possible to find them in the Mudita E-reader app.

Until this is added in the Mudita E-reader, I’m very satisfied with sideloading Lithium, an adfree and open source Epub reader.

I will ask our team to see how the plans look for expanding the eReader app.

At first I thought that screen of Kompakt is only B/W

BUT I looked at Maps and I see that this app uses different refreshing type (Like normal or regal on Boox and others brands). Maps shows grayscale image

So - I think that for user experience in the next updates Mudita team should add possibility to choose refresh type for different apps - ESPECIALLY for Ereader.

Aha - I see that mudita ereader does antialiasing too - but there’s no control for contrast and other options (like described in other thread here )

Three wishes.

  • Improved antialiasing. The text is really hard to read
  • Use the volume button to step back and forth, having to use two hands to swipe is not good
  • how remove those preloaded books? It should be possible to remove books from within the phone.

I really like that idea.

Wait, did you say no bookmark ? That’s weird.

So far it’s a bare bone reader, you can only change font size in 3 steps and nothing else.

Would love to be able to annotate text (highlight), especially spanning more than one page. being able to browse individual annotations, and/or export them would be fantastic.
