Hello! this looks really interesting and I would like to download it when I get free time! question regarding the “Hardware shortcut remapping” could this be used to toggle on/off the display brightness?
Yep you can setup a shortcut to toggle the front light on/off. There are a few different button remap options. The only one that didn’t work was long pressing home button so I left that one out.
For my kompakt I use long pressing the 3rd button settings for the frontlight on/off and then double tapping it for a manual refresh/clear. I use the notification shade on single press of that button which replaces the mudita quick settings function.
So, I downloaded it and really enjoy it so far, really love how nice and easy it is to close recent apps now. one thing I’ve noticed though is that when I hold a recent app to close it the phone the brightness will automatically come back on. not sure if this is a bug or if I just did something wrong when setting it up. every other app keeps the brightness off, but settings will automatically turn on the front light, then turn it back off when I exit the settings. got any ideas? I really love this app so far it was exactly what I was looking for! great work!
I FIXED IT, sorry I’m not tech savvy, what I ended up doing was turning off the brightness on Mudita settings then allowing accessibility settings for your app and that fixed everything! thanks so much for a wonderful app!
Thanks for this, such exciting time with this and The Katapult launcher.
Some issues I found:
I chose the brightness setting for double tap recents, it won’t turn back on, and it doesn’t remember the level set before (which I set in the app, not by Mudita settings)
If I put the new notifications tray on the recents button, it opens much slower than with the swipes.
After I force stops recents apps, should they really stay there in the recents tray?
Just a small remark for other users, I found the LARGE font setting to be most fitting for the Kompakts screen. The UI of the app looks also more coherent with that.
The clear eInk mode does wonders when you read a book with the standard reader, the text is much cleaner, and the blurry overlay (antialiasing) is gone.
I honestly have not done any battery testing at all since I normally charge my battery way before its low.

Did you make sure to grant all permissions? including the one towards the bottom by the custom tones? I forgot if that one is required but for me it remembers the last manually set brightness % for the ON state.
For me it seems to be about the same speed. Do you have alot of apps running on your phone?
I was originally looking into that but there doesn’t seem to be a way for my app to know if you killed the app since it has to use the android settings for the kill button that it pops up. If this was something mudita added to their OS they could totally make it work but for an app on a unrooted device its just not possible AFAIK.
@jordan, might this run a non-Kompakt deGoogled cellphone?
Until I get another Kompakt, I have been experimenting with CalmCast, CalmMaps, and the inkOS launcher on my AOSP-16-based cellphone.
Unless KompaktX will run strictly ONLY on a Kompakt, I would like to give it a try on my deGoogled cellphone so that I can become familiar with it before getting my next Kompakt.
I haven’t tested it on other devices yet, but I think it should work fine aside from the eink mode stuff of course. Let me know what you think if you decide to try it, and I’ll see what I can do if anything is broke or sized weird.
I tried it, and I like the main GUI. It seems innocuous on my cellphone. That may be due to the fact that I am not using it on a Kompakt OR to the fact that I am running the inkOS launcher. Anyway, I look forward to trying it again after I get my next Kompakt. Thank you for your work on this app!
but there is a bug in it if i set notification tray shourtcut to “Pull up from bottom-right edge“ i can’t press any buttons that are on the bottom-right edge like the enter button on my keyboard
same issue on the bottom-left option too.
Thank you for this! I’ve been waiting for a way to control the eink settings. Third-party developers are literally saving the Kompakt.
Can we have an option to hide the icons in the recents and in the pop-up notifications? Maybe we could just have a roundish border around the text in the recents section instead (maybe a similar black background that is behind the Notifications/Settings toggle)?
Nitpicky/OCD, but can we have the “Clear All” button in the notification section have more padding on the top? It looks too close to the border line above it in comparison to other elements, such as the Notifications/Settings toggle, which have larger padding below them. Visually, the “Clear All” button looks cramped in comparison. Maybe have it match the padding amount of the WiFi, BT, and Light so its more consistent?
