It would be great if the LED could be used to notify of missed calls or messages on the lock screen

OOOOH that’s so cool

If this were implemented, I would grab my phone far less often. I’m constantly having to check that I haven’t missed calls or texts, because I never feel or hear the Kompakt vibrate. And even if I do feel or hear it vibrate, I don’t know if it’s a notification worth my time or not without opening up apps to see.

agreed. this would be so helpful.

Another + 1 for LED notifications. I would find it helpful to know at a glance if I need to even bother checking my phone. And, to know quickly if I did miss a call or message.

Would it really be the end of the world if we didn’t respond to a text or a call immediately? isn’t the whole point of the Kompkt to allow us to be more relaxed if we miss a call or text, and use the phone when WE choose, not when it tells us to? the whole ethos behind the Kompakt is to change our reliance, on having a smartphone, remove addictions and habits, not still check it like a smartphone, and get a dopamine hit
important calls will be repeated, if not responded to, and text by nature indicates the contents are not that important.
Im not against having an optional coloured led as an indicator, but personally, I don’t feel the need to constantly check for calls or messages.
I still maintain my own reason for buying the Kompak has been the very basic nature of it. Perhaps its us that need to change not the notifications?

Mudita gave us the flexibility of being able to add other apps, if the stock ones don’t meet our needs. I keep reading suggested upgrades etc, some are good, but personally I dont want Mudita to make the Kompakt into a smart phone with an Eink screen, thats not what I bought it for

Imagine a hypothetical scenario where you are in the shower and people were calling your phone multiple times for an emergency but since the shower room is far away from your phone so you did not hear it. You finish showering and go about your day enjoying the bliss of not seeing any notifications.
Hours later you get another call telling you to go to the hospital because such such got into an accident, they tried calling earlier but couldn’t reach you. Now if you had a blinking led, you would have noticed it coming out of the shower after a brief glance at your phone, all without reaching out or opening the phone. Thankfully, the person survived, but imagine if those few hours were all they had to say goodbye.

It’s a weird cultish mindset isn’t it? I have emergencies to take care of about once a week or two. I like my epaper phone though, but it’s like being hard of hearing and refusing to wear a hearing aid sort of deal.

in your hypothetical scenario, the logical thing to happen, would be. I get out of the shower, go to the room where my phone is, and check to see if I received a call, which i couldn’t hear because I left my phone in another room for a while. No ones suggesting we never check our phones.
you do realise there are some industries where having a mobile phone on your person is prohibited, whilst you are working, so seeing you had a missed call could potentially go unnoticed for 4 hrs or more till you have a break.

most of us don’t tend to have an emergency every week or two, but some imagine they do.
Its actually nothing like that. Id say its more like admitting you’re a drug addict, sneaking off for a fix but telling every one you are clean.

There is a reason first responders would not choose to buy a minimalist phone, neither would they be provided with one by their employer. You need to ask yourself why you purchased one in the first place, if it is such a huge part of your life.

@sundancermartin Yup. I can confirm this. My friend works at a bank in the AML department & she cannot have her cell phone with her for the time she is at her desk. One of our friends actually had to go to the hospital a couple months ago & I just had to send her an email to her work address.

Life will come at you when you least expect it.

Then that’s more of a you problem isn’t it? Admitting it is the first step after all.

Not what it’s being argued. The issue is the value of notifications and the inconsistency in allowing some but excluding others, and the mindset of settling for a manufacturers hard locked choices for you.

I don’t need to do anything you ask. As I said, I like my epaper phone and I agree with his use case scenario.

Well You started with the ridiculous comparisons so I thought Id join in.

you must be discussing that with yourself, this thread is about having the led as an additional notification. But then we are all locked into settling for manufacturers choices, apple, samsung, etc dont do requests either.

:o) … it was a suggestion not an order … funnily enough so do I, just the way it is

I have school age kids and am still picking them up and dropping them off at school and for various activities so using the led notifications (Whatsapp = purple and SMS/Phone calls = blue) has been wonderful during the last 2 1/2 months.

I almost never need to unlock my phone. Instead I just briefly glance at the led.

To turn off the led I just pick up the phone and shake it gently and the led turns off.

Giving this option to other Kompakt users does not mean that all users are forced to use it. Users that do not want to use the option can just ignore it.

You did that on your Kompakt? But how? Did I miss something…?

@esquared Please share how you’ve managed this. I think all of us are interested in this function.

@esquared has rooted their device.

This is supported by android and some apps but your team has locked the LED light to be used only by system privileges. And it’s only functionality now it to tell you that is charging, which myself I don’t find it useful, because I can know that when I plug in the cable

The LED light is a very nice feature, which is not utilized here at all imo.

LED light notification makes me use my phone less not more.

Agreed. I now think that it is a good to have. I used to have that feature in one phone but I don’t remember exactly what it was, probably Samsung Galaxy S5 with some additional app.

Galaxy Note 2 for me, whatsapp = green, viber = purple, red=email but you were able to set it for each app that supported, it was a very cool feature that I miss from old phones.

Why not try to convince your team to implement this in the next update…
