Issues with Group Texting

@meekomck Welcome to the Mudita Forum. We’re glad that you’re here.
Since you’re new here, please let me know if you’ve updated your MuditaOS K to 1.4.0
Also, are your Group Messages enabled?
Additionally, did you deregister from iMessage (if coming from an iPhone) and RCS?

Hey, Thanks for the quick reply @urszula . Yes I did all and went as far as deregistering with Google RCS over 30 days ago. Are there any fixes for this in the 1.5 update? I’m with t-mobile and my APN settings are also correct.

@meekomck Then the next step would be to reach out to our tech support at [email protected].
They will most likely ask you to send logs (they will give you instructions how to do that) and that way they will be to look more closely, behind the scenes as to what is happening.

Can anyone else verify this - that everyone in a chat would need to disable RCS and recreate groups?

I disabled RCS a few days ago so hopefully that will work… but it wasn’t the same SIM, just my number.

Have reached out already, awaiting a reply.

Great description of the issue, thanks so much for pasting that.

RIP my 16-person family group chat… honestly a blessing.

Sorry to be such a n00b, but how do I get to this screen? (to differentiate between group/single sms)

When I try to create a group it sends to the participants individually

Thanks

@rogueregimellc What version of MuditsOS K are you currently running on your Mudita Kompakt?

1.5.0,

IT was able to get messages to send out in group format, but I do not receive any replies.

The other participants have deleted the chat and tried to start new

My preference is one-to-one text messages - group chats may be applicable for broadcasting orders and such, but they are not personal communications which the Kompakt is intended for.

I think it’s better to use a different device, a smartphone that manages the protocols for group messaging.

SMS is not the correct tool for group chat messaging.

Exactly!

This could be an APN settings issue.
In this case, we would recommend that you reach out to our customer service for specific technical support. They will probably need to request your logs to see what happened behind the scenes for this to occur. They can be reached via email at [email protected] or, alternatively, you can submit a support request/support ticket directly on our website:

Is group texting something that will eventually improve or is it inherently flawed and dependant on specific carriers implementations / interoperability ?

Group texting is not inherently flawed, but it does depend on several factors, including, carrier implementation, APN and MMS settings, network interoperability, and even the user’s mobile plan. Sometimes, the issue may come from one factor or a combination of several.

That’s why we recommend contacting our Customer Support team and providing device logs. The logs allow our tech team to see what is happening behind the scenes and determine whether the issue can be addressed through troubleshooting settings or some other fix.

In some cases, the solution may be relatively simple. As one community member recently shared, contacting their network provider resolved the problem. We have also encountered a situation where a user had a calls-and-texts-only plan without the mobile data service required for MMS. Since group messages are generally handled as MMS, they could not be received under that plan. The user never got a data plan because they always used WiFi, so they didn’t feel the need to pay for data.

These are small details that are easy to overlook, which is why checking the full configuration is so important. If you are experiencing problems with group messaging, please reach out to our Support team with your logs and details about your carrier, plan, and APN settings. This will give the team the best chance of identifying the specific cause and suggesting the appropriate next steps.

I am experiencing the same problem: I can set up a group for texting, and I can send a text to a group, but do not receive any of the responses sent to the group. My husband, down the hall, gets their responses, but I do not. Very frustrating.

I know you’re working on this now (I saw and replied to your Contacts app review also).

A few thoughts:

  • Consider restarting your phone if you haven’t since you’ve made these changes.
  • Make sure you’ve got the group messaging set up in the SMS app. If replies still don’t arrive, try the other choice in that setting.
  • If it still doesn’t work, it’s worth checking your carrier’s MMS and APN settings, since group replies come in as MMS. Mudita support can read the phone’s logs, as urszula suggested above.

I hope it gets sorted out soon.
