My issue is with group text sending. I’m riding on T-Mobile through U.S. Mobile. I receive group texts fine. I can originate a group text fine. HOWEVER, any responses I send to group texts I’m included in OR originate go to each individual as a single, private text. I can’t seem to find any discussion of this and wanted to raise it. I often get responses that indicate people don’t understand the context because it has come in on a single recipient text thread.
@blue Welcome to the Mudita Forum! We’re glad you’re here!
Did you enable the group message settings in the SMS app?
Done. THANKS!!!
I have a question! I have just purchased a MK and I a so excited. It will arrive in a few weeks. I want to be as prepared as possible for the transition from my iphone carried by Verizon so I do not have epic issues with group messaging and SMS in general. I am in the US. I think my steps are:
- unenroll from Verizon and enroll in Mint Mobile or T Mobile before I get the MK. It sees switching to MK from Mint or TM is easier than switching from Verizon.
2)deregister from RCS from i message and my # w/ google. I am not entirely sure how to do that. Do I need to do that before I am setting up the MK? - set up the MK properly with APN. I am not sure how to do that. Also make sure group messaging is enabled.
Could someone kindly confirm these steps are correct and help me answer the questions above? I see the photos above but they do not make it clear which direction to toggle the circle. I am a true luddite and need as detailed step by step instructions as possible.
Thank you! I have a Luddite club and everyone is waiting to see how it goes with my MK. Lots of interest.
@nikkirodney: Regarding RCS and iMessage, check out this guide to iMessage vs. RCS vs. MMS. It’s posted at another cellphone maker’s site, but it is the best guide that I have seen on that topic:
I think you would want to use your iPhone until Mudita Kompkat arrives, and from what other users have posted here, RCS can take up to 30 days to be fully de-resgistered.
I am having another possibly related issue I was wondering if you could help with. After following all of the steps discussed on the forum I am successfully getting most messages. There is one person who we can’t figure out how to make messaging work. He has an iphone and when he tries to text me individually or in a group he gets a message that “Message Blocking is Active” but he hasn’t blocked me. When I try to message him it looks normal on my end and he just never receives it.
From what I’ve found online it seems like he might need to talk to his carrier. What is causing this and is there an easier way to fix it ? I appreciate any thoughts.
@natalie.neill This is definitely odd. Let me go to the team with this & see if they have any ideas.
Just to make sure, you’ve removed your phone number from iMesseges & de-registered from RCS?
@natalie.neill: The top of this AI-generated response on the Brave browser…
…suggests that you may want to ask that person to do the following on his iPhone:
- Go to Settings > Messages.
- Ensure that iMessage is enabled.
- Ensure that Send as SMS is enabled.
- Ensure that MMS Messaging is enabled.
- Ensure that Group Messaging is enabled.
Thank you, yes, I wasn’t planning on closing account with Verizon before my MK arrives. I just noticed that some people seemed to have an easier time switching from Mint Mobile or T Mobile so I thought maybe I’d switch my iphone over to one of those carriers before the MK even arrives, if that is necessary to make the transition easier. I’m not panicked about missing messages, I don’t mind taking the time to sort that out. But if it would be easier if I switch carriers first I could do that.
Thanks, that is helpful in understanding conceptually the issue. It is also helpful to see the instructions for what to do on the iphone to deactivate. I don’t see a clear step by step list anywhere for what to do on the MK to ensure group messaging and messaging in general works but I suppose once I set the phone up I will see.
Perhaps the User Guide will help when you set up your Kompakt:
Thanks- yes I have.
Thanks, yes we have confirmed all those settings on his phone.
I just want to chime in and say I set up a new MK yesterday, after switching from an iphone. I followed the deregister instructions and the iphone toggle instructions in this thread and had no issue. I was on verizon and stayed with them. For 2-3 minutes after switching I wasn’t receiving messages, but after that I had no lapse, no friends had to do anything differently with my contact in their phone, no group messages had to be deleted and restarted–it all worked without a hitch.
Hi ! I am not sure about 2 things regarding group SMS :
- does every Android & iOS user I include in the group have to explicitely enable group SMS on his/her side for it to work ?
- I have been using dumbphones or de-googled phones for months / years, so haven’t used RCS for a long time. Do I still have to unregister RCS on Google’s side ? (I tried to fill in this form, but didn’t receive the validation code) : https://messages.google.com/disable-chat
I have just tried with a couple of people to create a new group ; they did receive my message but the replies I got were individual ones. (and yes, I did set up my Kompakt properly to enable “single MMS group chat” ![]()
Edit : now that I think about it, before this attempt with the right setting, I had made a group with the same persons and the wrong settings (indivudual messages). Might explain that…
This could be the issue. Let us know if it works moving forward.
I am really lost… Group MMS seems to be a tough subject, considering the various interoperability issues…
I made 2 different groups ![]()
-
a group with 2 Android friends. It works perfectly with one of them. The other one has RCS disabled. He gets the messages from the 2 other people but cannot reply at all. He is constantly asked to enter his phone number but it doesn’t work. (I guess the issue is on his side ?)
-
a group with 1 Android friend & 1 iOS friend. The iOS person apparently only gets individual messages but I don’t get the replies contrary to the Android one. I get no answer in the group.
Those two persons have a working group with another Android person but I guess that’s RCS…
Well… It kinda seems to be vain, according to Can I still group message on my dumbphone? - Sunbeam Wireless :
It seems, for group texting to work properly, I would have to ask each recipient to disable RCS, force text messaging, re-create the groups.
Any change on this, after a month of using a loving this phone I have to give it up. Have had all the problem above, I’m now at the point were most things work but I do not receive group replies and I only know they replied as my spouse or business associate was in the text. This phone has made me so present and read more than I have in a long time so it has been frustrating for this not to work. Hope before I buy another phone in the next couple of weeks that there is a solution.
