inkOS v0.4 update

Thanks for the reply and insight! I appreciate knowing they were removed for the ultimate improvement of the launcher, and am excited to see their reimplementation in some form in the future. Thank you kindly for all the work you’ve done, my experience with the MK would be vastly diminished without it.

I used empty spaces to completely fill the first page of home apps so I’d get just a blank home screen with the clock, date and battery at the top and my background completely visible when I unlock the MK. Then, I’d use the spaces in subsequent pages as separators where they felt appropriate - for instance, my second page had:

Messages
Phone
Camera
–empty space–
Settings

I really liked being able to partition and group things together for a nice clean, organized look.

See why it’s very useful for users to share screenshots/photos of their setups so i can understand their use cases. In my original intention empty space was never meant as a separator just a quick way to off-centre apps

But you’re not the only one, other users have messaged me about using the spaces as separators. So i’ll have to implement such feature in the upcoming updates.

Thanks for sharing, it’s very helpful

Sorry if this is obvious or was shared already, but is there a way to keep the App text the same size when you have a notification? I prefer how it looked in previous versions.

No, sorry that has been changed. I was experimenting with UX and the reason it was changed to this is to avoid the “jump” that the old way caused when and app had notifications. And it was also causing pages with no notifications to be shorter than those with notifications.

I’ve added some simple text icons to help with referencing in case the app size feels to small.

Okay so, after having used the update for a few days and reconfiguring everything, I can say with confidence that I don’t need the spacers anymore.
Recents has all but taken the place of my homescreen apps, because everything that I had set on the later pages of my homescreen resides very comfortably in Recents. I love that you can longpress on apps there to force stop and just hit back in settings to return. I can look for notifications in the Simple Tray. My homescreen is blank, as I preferred it before.
I don’t know if this is at all possible, but I would love it if the Simple Tray (or any of the inkOS pages/fragments) could be assigned to replace the MK’s native 3rd button quick menu thing, since it all but replaces that menu in practice.
Wonderful work, again, I thank you - you really have made the MK perfect (to me). Looking forward to more in the future!

This can be done using keymapper:

  1. KeyMapper app which you can find in F-droid or aurora store.
  2. In inkos Set “Simple Tray” as gesture to tap on clock, date or quote. ( plus take a screenshot of your home).
  3. In Keymapper record pressing the right capacitive button.
  4. Then in actions choose tap screen
  5. Select the screenshot you made
  6. In the screenshot Tap on the widget that you chose to open “Simple Tray” to get the precise cordinates.
  7. Confirm and Save

Then after this when you press right capacitive button it should emulate hitting the gesture on the screen. Just so you know this only works while in inkOS, not in other apps.

Key mapper requires the Accesibility feature, so make sure you enable that

p.s You’ll still be able to access the Mudita quick settings if you swipe from the top (from the outer edge).

Glad I was able to help! And I’m happy you have managed to find a new workflow.

This was done precisely for Mudita Kompakt

KeyMapper was the answer. Incredible. Thank you again!!

Great app, thank you so much!! Would it be possible to add a feature to hide apps in the app drawer, like Clauncher does? Thanks again for the app!

@Ophe Longpress, click the hide button (eye). And it will be hidden.

Thanks for the info, but once an app is hidden, it’s impossible to reopen it by searching its name.

In Clauncher, all apps are hidden, and to open one you have to type its full name.

I think that’s great for spending less time on my phone, since apps are harder to open!

Ah ok I understand what you mean. I can’t promise that will come to inkOS.

As of now you can disable app drawer gesture (so u can’t access appdrawer from home), which makes you go to settings / Appdrawer to access apps or hidden apps.

Or hide apps that you want to make it harder to access them from appdrawer, and they can be accessibile from Settings/Appdrawer/Hidden Apps.

Hi. Loving InkOS. But I was experimenting with different wallpapers and decided i want none. But now if i turn opacity all the way it does get rid of it but whenever I swipe up from the lock screen there is a flash of the old wallpaper. Tried uninstalling inkOS and it’s still there. Tried clearing the cache too. @gezimos can you help? thanks

You’ve set the wallpaper as Lockscreen wallpaper as well (which Mudita hides) but it is visible when unlocking or during reboot.

Clearing cache will not do anything as wallpaper is in Android not in inkOS anymore.
Set a white image as wallpaper and it will be gone. There’s no other way.

I’ve attached a white image here u can use this.

In next update there will be an option to for white wallpaper in the presets.

thank you!!! It’s been said before but.Mudita needs to offer you a job. This launcher you’ve put together is superior in every way.

Glad I could help!
There’s a bug in the brightness doesn’t always sync with the system brightness or tries to override it. It has been fixed, will be updated on next release

I wasn’t 100% sure I want to update just because I was already really happy with v0.3 and the new version seemed to require altering the setup and some habits I’ve developed. Curiocity still won though

Recents and Simple Tray are both a great addition! I disabled Notifications Window (aka “Letters”) and used Key Mapper to set the Kompakt quick settings button to trigger Simple Tray. (I also mapped long press on Home to pull the App drawer.) Meanwhile my “Quote” widget opens Recents now. I limited home apps to 1 page and I think Recents will cover the rest.

I love the Notifications count thingy because I used to forget to check the Notifications window all the time and missed messages sometimes. Charging indicator is surely a handy nice to have as well.

Other changes didn’t affect my usage.

As always thank you so much for the work you put into inkOS!

I’ve noticed a couple of minor issues as well. Do you prefer me to open github issues or just post here?

It is exactly why I always mention if you are happy don’t update
But i’m glad you’re liking the changes.

Just realized that in KeyMapper you can stack actions, I just responded to a user that requested to be able to open “recents” directly from other apps as well.

I’m leaving this for other users:
First action needs to be “open app shortcut” choose inkOS, and add 100ms delay. Then add 2nd action to tap in clock/date/quote.

So let’s say you’re in Music app, when u press the right capacitive button, first it will open inkOS then it will open recents/simpletray.

Glad you like it! The notification count is directly tied to SimpleTray, and simpletray basically is almost 1:1 with system notifications. So if it’s not there it’s not in android at all.

Github is better for me because here it’s difficult to go back and find the issues.

Some that I know exist in v0.4 but are already fixed and coming in next release:

  • Wallpaper cropping workaround
  • Wallpaper editor dithering buttons hiding
  • Hide Home Apps in App Drawer settings (bug hides home apps in home instead of app drawer)
  • Brightness slider not syncing with system slider

And some more UI/UX issues

Thank you for the kind words

@gezimos incredible work. The user experience of your launcher compared to stock is night and day. It looks great out of the box, but youve made it so customizable as well.

The only thing i find myself needing is a way to close all apps. I know you can do it via the app info menu one at a time, but is there a way to add that functionality? Digging around the forums I see there were some issues with accessibility options that were no longer exposed by mudita, does that problem still exist?

I installed KillApps via the Aurora Store for this functionality. However, having the ability to close all apps at once from straight within inkOS would be amazing!
